Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 151: Attached to him
Chapter 151: Attached to him
The invitations were sent to all of the guests who were yet to leave Findara after the crown Prince’s wedding. The guests couldn’t miss such opportunity to have a connection with the crown princess, they all accepted to attend the soiree tonight.
The crown Prince’s residence became filled with servants going around preparing for the soiree. Ara’s bandaged knee made it hard for her to move around so she just sat in her room alone, since Hamon had been called to an urgent meeting at the royal council for some kingdom affairs matters.
Emma was in charge of directing the servants while Oliver assisted her on one side, with both in charge, the work was going smoothly.
Ara thought she should go and check it out, but the moment she walked out, Camilla rushed to her to inform, "Your Highness, lady Anne has arrived."
Ara’s eyebrows slightly drew together, she hadn’t sent an invitation to the Boxton mansion, so maybe Anne only came to visit. Without thinking much about it, she hurriedly made to go to see her sister for herself. Ara couldn’t walk comfortably with the bandage wrapped around her knee, her injury was not severe, but Hamon had insisted she leave it on for a day. And she’d simply complied, of course she had to, with her overprotective husband.
Ara hurriedly headed out to meet Anne halfway, she hadn’t seen her sister ever since after the wedding, and it somehow felt like it been forever since they’ve met.
"Sister!" Came Anne’s voice as she came running, she fell into Ara’s arms and wrapped her in a tight hug. Ara couldn’t help but smile, "Did you come to visit, Anne?"
"Sort of, I wanted to ask for your permission on something, and of course I missed you so much too!" She exclaimed as she squeezed Ara in the hug.
"Ok, ok, I missed you too." Ara said as she stepped back from the tight hug and held Anne’s hand to lead her inside. The pair got indulged in a conversation as they hadn’t met for sometime now. Ara took Anne to the parlor and soon the servants served them lunch.
Ara filled her sister in with some of the discussion.
"Oh, really? You gave Emma the position of a head maid in the crown Prince’s residence?"
"Yes, there was no head maid so I thought Emma is a great fit for the position. If you want to meet her, she’s helping to arrange the hall for the soiree am hosting tonight."
"Oh, I’ll meet her before I leave then." Anne mused, then took sip from her tea. As if remembering the reason she came to the palace, Anne began, "Um, sister...I’ve settled all the servants I hired for the wedding preparation. But I decided to keep one of them."
"Keep one of them? Why?"
Anne replied with an awkward smile, "Well, I just wanted him to stay longer because I feel somehow attached to him...I can’t just let him go. So I just wanted to let you know about it. I hope you don’t mind me keeping him?"
Ara’s forehead creased. Anne was in charge of the Boxton mansion now, but coming here to tell her this? Moreover, she said she was attached with the servant? There was only one person that came to Ara’s mind. Could it be Merek...?
Ara gave Anne a questioning look, "What is the servant’s name?"
"...My personal servant, Merek. You remember him, right? I introduced him to you that day."
At Anne’s sheepish reaction, Ara had a feeling something was going on. When she was still at the Boxton mansion, Ara had noticed her sister had been clinging to Merek than she should. Moreover, she knew her sister wasn’t the type to keep a personal servant. Her sudden declaration to keep him was somehow suspicious to Ara.
Ara glanced up at Anne and spoke calmly, "Oh, I can see you have become so attached to Merek without me realizing it." She mused, however she just hoped her sister wasn’t keeping him for another reason she wasn’t telling her.
Anne shyly scratched her neck and gave a smile that didn’t reach her eyes as her thought went to Merek. Merek hadn’t promised to stay in the mansion, but she would try her best to keep him. However, he had been avoiding her since last night, he didn’t even eat the food she gave him this morning and only refused her by saying,
"I’m tired of eating all this tasteless food, my lady. It tastes really bad I had to force myself to eat it everytime."
Merek’s words really broke her heart this morning, it cut deep into her, she couldn’t stand it, that was why she’d come to her sister to clear her mind. It almost felt like she was forcing him. She’d put so much effort in cooking for him, but to only be told it was tasteless...
But what if Merek doesn’t feel the same for her and she was only forcing him to stay? At the thought, tears suddenly filled Anne’s eyes, she blinked and looked heavenward to fight the tears back.
Ara noticed her sister’s expression and the glittering tears in her eyes, "Anne, are you alright?" She asked concerned.
Anne quickly nodded with a forced smile, "Y-yes, something got into my eyes, am fine."
Ara gave her a doubtful look, but didn’t question further. She’d never seen her sister like this before, could it be it had something to do with Merek? Ara had only asked Merek to protect her sister for just a short while until her family returned to the main mansion in the north, but she hadn’t expected Anne to get this attached to him, to the extent she wanted to keep him in the mansion. He wasn’t a servant but an assassin, he couldn’t stay in the mansion forever as he was still working under the crown Prince and would have to return to continue his underground work.
Maybe it would be best if she talked with Merek about this first. She didn’t know what was between them, however she wouldn’t want her sister getting attached to an assassin, that will bring more danger to Anne’s safety.
Despite not liking the thought of Anne getting attached to Merek, Ara gave her sister an understanding smile and said, "I don’t mind you keeping the servant, you may keep him in the mansion."
Anne’s expression brightened up, "R-really? Thank you, sister." With her sister’s permission, she could keep Merek without worrying about anything. Maybe in the future, when she finally won his heart, Ara wouldn’t have anything against it as well!
