Chapter 150: Plans for the queen

After Ara had breakfast in bed, Hamon had insisted she stay in bed and not move around with her injured knee. Ara had no choice but to do as he said, because Hamon had sat on the couch doing his work in the bedroom instead of the study room. He was going through the pile of parchment papers filled with kingdom’s affairs and issues that needed immediate attention, as the king was not feeling well and the work had fallen on him.

He was so focused on his work with his eyes narrowed down on the papers as he signed some and declined others. Ara watched as his long fingers held the pen and dipped it into the ink. As she watched him, she was beginning to doze off when a knock came from the door.

Hamon looked away from the the pile of parchment, then called out, "Come in."

Emma entered and bowed to the couple, Ara then asked, "What is it?"

"Sire Oliver wants to meet you, shall I bring him here?"

"Yes, please let him in."

Emma smiled and stepped back outside, few moments later, Oliver entered. But when his eyes fell on Hamon, he was a bit taken aback to see him in the room, he’d looked around all the study rooms in the palace to report to him about the perfumes, but it turned out he was here. He quickly bowed when he met Hamon’s displeased look, "Good morning, Your Highnesses."

Hamon cut in, "Straight to the point, Oliver. What’s the result of the perfumes?"

Oliver quickly handed a parchment to Hamon, he’d written down everything the old man had explained to him. Ara wasn’t surprised as she knew Hamon must have told Oliver to report the result to him. She watched as Hamon accepted the paper and skimmed it. His expression darkened as he read through it, the atmosphere suddenly turned colder with the bone chilling aura he was exuding.

Oliver who stood next to him felt a cold chill ran down his spine, he couldn’t help but swallow hard.

Hamon looked up from the paper his frosty red eyes dropped the temperature around him, he laughed darkly, "Cusida, the queen really like to play with fire." He muttered. He hadn’t even won his wife’s heart yet, and the hag was already trying to make his wife barren? The hag was really testing his patience!

Despite the anger that was burning within him, Hamon calmly stood up from the couch and strode towards the bed, he handed the parchment to her, "Here, read this."

Ara who already knew what was mixed with the perfumes took the paper to confirm it. She read through it and saw that the perfumes were really mixed with Cusida. However, something else caught her eyes.

[Cusida is a scented tree, it’s a rare tree that only grows in the southern part of Bredon, it’s fragrance is harmful to any woman who inhales it for a long time. Some experts in Bredon could easily distinguish it’s fragrance from any normal scent.]

This part could really be helpful! Ara thought. She could easily trap Merona with this. Oliver interrupted her thoughts, "How do you think we should handle this matter, Your Highness?" He asked Hamon. Ara also glanced towards Hamon who had a blank expression on.

Hamon looked towards Ara with a small sigh, "I thought you said you already have a plan for the queen?" He questioned.

Ara nodded, "Yes, but you said I shouldn’t get involve with_"

"Then I’ll let you handle it. Just make sure to be careful whatever you do."

"...Really?" She was surprised he was letting her handle the matter after he’d told her to not get involved with Merona. Ara had told him to trust in her, and this seemed to be his answer. He really does trust her!

"I won’t let you down on this, I will deal with the matter!" She assured with a smile. She was beyond honored to deal with the queen.

Hamon nodded and gently patted her head. Despite his concern, he trusted his wife enough to handle the matter, he knew she was capable. He’d leave the hag to her hands, if he was to take matters in his own hands, he might end up killing the queen impulsively. And he wouldn’t want that, death was an easy punishment for the hag, she deserved to suffer before dying a horrible death. He wanted her to go through hell on earth before facing the real hell. And he’d let his wife take care of that for now.

Ara couldn’t help but smile further at his support and trust in her ability to do things by herself.

Oliver’s eyes widened in astonishment. He knew it! The crown Prince had changed his old ways. If it was before, he would have acted rashly without thinking! The more he saw this, the more he thought Ara was a perfect match for Hamon. Oliver quietly watched the couple.

After few moments, Ara had thoughts of her plans, she turned towards Oliver with her green eyes shinning with determination, "Now that we have an evidence in our hands, we have the queen’s weakness. We should strike when the iron is hot."

"What do you intend to do, Your Highness?"

"We have to set a trap for the queen." She said. Ara would take this opportunity to let all the lands see Merona’s wicked self. Merona had intended to hurt her in a way any woman shouldn’t be hurt! By making her barren! The report had said Cusida had its distinct scent, she’d use that. A smile spread on her face, she continued,

"Your report said some expert in Bredon could distinguish Cusida’s scent, right?"

"Yes, Your Highness."

"There will be a soiree in the palace today. And I want you to get more of Cusida leaf powered before the evening."

"...!"

"...!"

Hamon and Oliver seemed to put together what Ara was planning, she gave Hamon a knowing look then turned back to Oliver, "And also invite all of the guests who came to attend the wedding from other kingdoms. Including some experts in Bredon. Send the inventions as soon as possible before they start to return to their kingdoms." She instructed, "Also send an invitation to queen Merona as well."

A proud smile drew on Hamon’s lips as he watched his wife.

Oliver gave a deep bow, "I’ll get to it right away, Your Highness."

"Yes, please." Since the queen had added Cusida to the perfumes, to expose her, they’d need to add more of the Cusida to make the scent stronger. If it was revealed that Merona had sent the perfumes to Ara, it would cause a set back for the queen, she’d lose all her supporters from the neighboring kingdoms. No noble would want to stand beside a wicked person like that, unless they wanted their names to get in the mud as well.

Ara would expose her in the eyes of all the guests. She’d trap her in her net!
