Chapter 106: letter from Cassius
A week had passed now, and the wedding was only two weeks away. Ara and Anne had been so busy with the preparations.
They both just finished speaking with the florist who was in charge of the flowers for decorating the square hall,
"I’ll take my leave, My ladies. Everything will be as you said." The man bowed and left with his workers.
As the sisters were alone, Anne spoke, "Sister, I have sent a letter to lady Millicent about the wedding gown."
"Is that so?"
"Yes, you’ll have to go there for the measurement, and if you don’t like it, I’ve spoken to other shops in advance."
Anne was more thorough in the wedding planning than Ara had thought. She hoped Anne would always remain her beloved sister even after the marriage. She gazed at her with a bittersweet expression, and said,
"Thank you, Anne."
It felt like yesterday when she lost her family and spent the entire night crying her heart out. Everything at the moment still felt like a dream. Having a wedding celebration with her family, she’d longed for those kinds of happy days with all her soul.
Anne shook her head, "What thank you? It’s only natural that I help to plan my sister’s wedding." She reassured, "We will go to the dress shop tomorrow. And I have a surprise for you at the place, You are going to like it!" She beamed excitedly.
"What kind of surprise?"
"You’ll see for yourself tomorrow, can’t wait!" She smiled mischievously. Ara had a feeling her sister was up to something, but didn’t say anything and decided to see it for herself tomorrow.

After finishing her conversation with Anne, Ara returned to her room, and at the same time her window swung open, and Merek causally jumped inside the room, she had been waiting to hear from him.
"You are here Merek?" She asked as she closed the room’s door and walked in.
"Hmm, am here to report back to you about the men, My lady." He responded with his usual blank expression, but his eyes looked brighter than usual.
"What about the men? Did you get their names?"
"Yes, but too bad something unfortunate happened to all of them, and now their corpses are in a place it belongs." He replied with no remorse in his tone.
Ara was taken aback, "What do you mean?"’
He sighed, "Well...they all died a tragic death. Their leader, Cale was found with his eyes missing from it’s socket this morning. While the rest were buried alive in their quarters." He informed with the same tone, however she missed the vicious glint in his eyes.
How could all the men die! It was difficult to believe that they all died a tragic death. Ara listened with her mouth agape, "How is that...?"
"My lady, they all moved as a gang, and I think other than you, they’ve offended someone they shouldn’t have. And maybe that person did that to them."
"Oh...I wonder who that person is who killed them at the same time I want to punish them..." She muttered.
Merek’s lips tugged up in a small smile.
_Who else but me? How could I let such thing slid by? I will kill whoever comes close to Annette! She’s mine to protect from now on!_
Ara’s eyes suddenly fell on a spot of blood on Merek’s light blue shirt. Could it be that his wound hadn’t healed yet? She glanced up at him anxiously,
"Merek, You are bleeding. Where did you get hurt? Or is it your wound?"
"Bleeding? Where?" He asked.
"Your side." She pointed to the spot.
Merek’s eyes followed where she pointed at, and replied in a casual voice as he touched the spot of blood, "This? It’s not my blood. I went to kill someone, so his blood must have spilt on my shirt."
Watching as he spoke calmly with no remorse, Ara couldn’t help but think Merek was similar to Hamon in some ways. He talked of killing someone so causally as if it was nothing.
Hamon? She hadn’t seen or heard from him for days...She wondered how he was doing these days. The wedding preparation had been stressful and she hadn’t had time to send him a letter...
"How is His Highness doing lately?" She asked Merek, who replied, "His Highness is fine."
His reply was short, and Ara didn’t know what to say again. Merek realized his answer was too short and added,
"Do you want to see him? I can report it to him if you want to."
"No, there is no need. I just thought to ask about him."
"Oh, I see." He mumbled, and after his words silence followed. Before he said again, "By the way, My lady. I noticed some new workers in the mansion these past few days...are you hiring new people?"
Ara nodded without any qualms as she knew that Merek was always around, "Yes, Anne hired them because of the wedding preparations."
"Is that so..." He trailed off, he seemed to be deliberating with himself for a moment, then spoke in his low usual voice, "Are the backgrounds of the workers fully checked?"
"Yes, Anne and the butler are in charge of it, why?"
"Nothing...I’ll always be around, if something happens, just summon me. Am back on the guard." He assured with a slight bow.
"Alright..." Ara couldn’t help but think that Merek was behaving differently today.
"I’ll take my leave, My lady." He muttered with a bow again before he left. She gazed at his retreating back and shook her head.
Not long after Merek left, the butler came rushing to her room with a golden envelope in hand, "My lady, this just arrived from the palace."
Her brows snapped together at the butler words, "The palace?"
"Yes, My lady. It was a servant from the royal palace who delivered it to the mansion." He informed as he held the envelope out to Ara, who took it with a questioning look. Not long ago she’d received an envelope just like this. Was it an invitation from the king again?
But why would he invite her again? Ara opened the envelope to confirm the sender, but what she saw was completely unexpected.
Prince Cassius?! Why would he send this to her?! It was an invitation to a celebration? As she turned the invitation card, a piece of paper fell from the envelope.
Ara bent over and picked it up. It was a letter.
[Good day, lady Boxton. I hope you accept this invitation so we can get to know each other more, since you will soon be my sister-in-law. I hope to meet you at the address written on the card. Cassius.]
Ara’s lips pressed together after reading the content of the letter. She remembered what he had once whispered to her at the grand ball. Was he really inviting her over? With what she’d heard of the second Prince, he was nothing but a womanizer.
