Chapter 104: New servant

_Is the king planning to empty my family’s wealth on this wedding?_

More guests meant a larger burden for her family. But she couldn’t reject this, as it was the king’s will. But now her family had to cover the expenses of everything.

"I see..." She replied to him, she felt a headache rush to her head. There was the dowry...And now this? Ara massaged her temple out of habit, then glanced up at Merek.

"I want you to help me with something...You see, when my sister and I were in the palace, some men broke into the bathroom while she was bathing."

Merek’s expression hardened at Ara’s words, he clenched his fist tightly. She noticed his change of expression, but thought she must be seeing wrong as it quickly changed back to his usual blank face.

She continued, "I want you to help me get their names, I will report them to his highness. They’ll all get the appropriate punishment for what they did."

Ara did not intended to easily let the matter off, as she was sure they weren’t part of the men they’d caught that day, she wanted to deal with them with her own hands.

Merek hesitated for a moment before he asked, "Did your sister tell you anything apart from that on that day?"

It was a question Ara didn’t expect he’d ask, but she replied, "No, she didn’t. Why did you ask?"

"Nothing...I’ll find them and report back to you then." He responded with a distanced look on his face. Ara noticed it but didn’t think much of his expression, and replied, "Thank you..."

"Hmm, I’ll definitely find them all."

Somehow, Ara sensed that Merek’s tone was sharper than usual, but didn’t think much about it. Merek slightly bowed his head to Ara, "I’ll leave now, My lady."

"Alright, take care."

As usual Merek made his exit through the window, she watched him leave then turned her head back to the parchment containing her calculations.

As Merek walked out of the window, he crept behind the walls of shadows, taking careful silent footsteps as usual, normally, he would have moved easily out of the mansion, but his wounds were still in the process of healing.

"Yes. You wouldn’t believe it!"

Suddenly, he heard voices of the mansion’s guard coming from the direction he was walking at.

"Damn it." He muttered under his breath and swiftly slipped through the window close to where he was standing.

He waited for the soldiers to pass, but then heard the voice of the person he’d come here to see.

"Butler, we have to get five more people, but I have a person in mind for that position you mentioned earlier." Came Anne’s voice from outside the door, Merek turned towards the door.

Ever since he’d regained his consciousness, he couldn’t get her off his mind. She was like a pest he couldn’t shoo away in his mind. Actually, Hamon had wanted to let Ara know about the venue through letter, but he had insisted on coming, just to check if the lady who helped him was alright.

Merek strode slowly towards the door and peered through an open slit in the door, he saw Anne talking to the butler while they both stood outside the door,

"My lady, who will you hire for that position?" The butler asked.

"Oh, don’t worry it’s someone am familiar with, and I know he’ll come for the interview soon." She beamed.

Merek recalled the words Anne had said to him before leaving her room that night.

_’I have a job offer for you, much better than stealing. After you get well, come see me in the Boxton’s household, I’ll give you a job in my mansion’_

His forehead creased, was she really keeping that position for him? He hadn’t been able to remove her from his mind. He had no idea what had suddenly came over him. He was no where closer to Annette Boxton’s statue. But that was fine; he had no plans of coming anywhere close to her.

He’d only protect her from afar, for what she had done for him that night. He’d pay her back by protecting her with everything in him. Starting with the men who saw her body that night!

_I will take out their eyes one by one, that way I will be at ease!_

Merek secretly watched Anne’s smiling face a little longer from the slit in the door. He gazed at her blue eyes one last time before he quietly left through the window he’d come from. He left with no signs of him ever being in the room, except for the breeze that slid through the opened window.

Unaware of Merek’s presence, Anne and the butler continued their talk. The butler then said, "My lady, actually, there is a woman who came looking for a job earlier, so I promised to let her know when there’s a vacancy, but thankfully she came here awhile ago. So i told her to wait since we’re looking for workers."

"Oh, where is she now?" She asked.

"Am right here, My lady." Came a voice from behind the butler. The woman stepped into Anne’s view. "Good evening, My lady. My name is Ellyn, and I’d really appreciate it if you give me the opportunity to work for you." Introduced the woman with a deep bow to the waist and a smile on her face.

Anne’s eyebrows raised, "Have we met before? You look quite familiar."

The woman was quick to nod her head, "Yes, My lady. If you remember, You and your sister once came to the jewelry store I worked for before. I was the one who served you tea."

Anne didn’t think much of it and replied, "Oh, I see." She turned to the butler, "Write her name down then. You are hired, Eylln." She said to the young woman.

Unbeknownst to her she had just made a very big mistake by hiring Ellyn, who was Ulric and Cornell’s accomplice and was sent to the Boxton mansion on a new mission.

"Thank you so much, My lady. I won’t disappoint you in anyway!" Ellyn remarked with a bright innocent smile.

_Now my mission is going to be very easy._ Secretly a smirk appeared on her face.
