Chapter 450: Chapter 433: Simple No-Damage Video
After everyone had a brief experience with the game’s trial demo, Wei Chengjie reconfirmed the development details and processes with the various departments.
Since the attendees were all professionals from outsourcing studios, this process did not take too much time.
Although there were some standards that were still uncertain, they could be refined slowly during the development process.
After all, this was the first game developed under Nitiandang 3.0 development model, so President Li and President Gu had allowed plenty of time; there was no need to hurry.
And next was another very important task: the release of the game’s promotional video.
Wei Chengjie packed away the computer used for the game demo and began playing the promotional video for "Blood of Lies" on the projector screen.
Everyone involuntarily sat up straight, and many faces were filled with expressions of anticipation.
Oh, the promotional video!
Without a doubt, it would be very impactful.
Previous games from Nitiandang had very high-quality promotional videos, and this time, with the unique world view of "Blood of Lies," the impact was expected to be even cooler.
However, when the footage appeared, everyone fell into a brief silence.
Because this footage was clearly different from what they had expected: from the very first second, the video showed only real in-game footage!
It is common knowledge that promotional CGI for such games are usually handled with a combination of CGI and real-time rendering.
If it’s specially made CGI, it would definitely be of higher quality, though it might also be criticized by gamers as deceptive, since CGI does not represent the actual quality of gameplay. Many games use a lot of opening or interstitial CGI to draw in players, which is not a bad thing.
Real-time rendering, on the other hand, is about producing cutscenes using art resources and motion found in the game itself, which is a relatively lower-cost and now a mainstream approach.
Many action game trailers use a combination of real-time rendering and live demonstrations to showcase gameplay.
However, "Blood of Lies"’ promotional video had surprisingly forgone the above methods, instead presenting real combat footage directly to the players.
This certainly showed confidence, but it also lost the sense of high quality usually conveyed through real-time rendering of the storyline; in other words, the focus of this promotional video would be on displaying the actual in-game combat, rather than plot or artistic atmosphere.
In the footage was the game’s protagonist that everyone had just seen, wearing a slender and handsome Hunter outfit, walking slowly forward.
The scene here was the one everyone saw in the trial demo, with streetlights and roads, and in the distance, a grand church was faintly visible.
However, the content in the video was clearly more than what they got in the trial demo, for in the demo, players could not enter the church scene, yet in this video, the protagonist did not engage in battles with various minor monsters on the road but went straight into the interior of the church.
In the expansive church hall, a huge monster knelt on the ground emitting a deep moan.
It looked like a giant hairy monster, but in some areas, it still retained some human features. Especially its head, which resembled the upper body of a human, even wearing a bishop robe and other human clothes.
Only in the abdominal area of the human part was there a gaping mouth as if it were the original mouth of the monster, with two rows of sharp ribs forming teeth, apparently chewing on something bloody.
As the Hunter stepped into the church, the monstrous beast had already turned around, issuing a terrifying roar!
The very next second, the monster rapidly lunged at the Hunter!
But the Hunter was unruffled, standing still as he drew a longsword from the scabbard on his back with his right hand, while a longsword sprung from his prosthetic left arm. With a crisp "clang," the two swords combined perfectly and faintly shimmered with a flash of light in the midst of the action.
At that moment, the monster’s giant claw struck down, smacking against the blade.
"Roar!"
The monster let out a pained roar as copious amounts of blood gushed from its claw, while the Hunter remained undisturbed, stepping back slightly from the force of the impact but completely unharmed.
The monster seemed even more infuriated. It lifted its other massive claw for a sweeping blow, but the Hunter stayed cool, pausing briefly before splitting the combined blades back into two. The right-hand blade flashed once more, meeting the monster’s giant claw in a perfect counter.
Blood spurted again, and this time not only was the claw wounded, but the monster also showed a slight expression of fear, entering a brief state of rigidity.
At that moment, the Hunter swiftly stepped forward to close the distance, his prosthetic left hand grasping the right-hand sword blade.
Flames burst forth from the prosthetic, gripping near the hilt.
The Hunter’s right hand drew the sword in a swift, stylish motion, and with a "whoosh," the entire blade was engulfed in flames.
He elegantly stepped forward, his hand deftly thrusting the sword into the creature’s body, igniting its long fur, which burned fiercely.
After two or three slashes, the monster seemed to recover from the rigid state caused by the GP, roaring as it launched another series of attacks—pounding the ground, sweeping, pressing down, tail swinging...
Yet the Hunter handled it with ease, lightly stepping aside, narrowly avoiding the blows. During certain attacks, he would flexibly switch the form of his weapon using Transform Slash, adeptly executing various strikes in both dual-wielding and two-handed styles.
It was evident from the video that the weapon damage wasn’t high, so the battle lasted somewhat longer than one might expect. However, as the fight progressed, the monster’s various parts began to bleed profusely and ultimately were utterly destroyed.
These destroyed parts further weakened the boss’s attacking abilities. When specific claws were destroyed, any related action modules would disappear or change and when the monster’s legs were damaged, its movement became restricted.
Furthermore, whether it was an illusion or not, under the continuous assault of the Hunter, the beast seemed increasingly dull-witted.
Originally, the monster’s moves had been unpredictable, a mix of fast and slow attacks with a unique rhythm that was easy to fall prey to if one wasn’t careful.
But as its health steadily decreased, the monster’s tactics seemed to simplify: At times, it would frenziedly strike out in succession, but its aim was off, allowing the Hunter to simply dodge and let the monster’s flurry hit nothing but air, or even the wall, injuring itself; other times, after unleashing a mad dog combo, it would freeze for an extended period, either in pain or in a daze, presenting the Hunter a perfect opportunity to attack.
During these long rigidity phases, the Hunter could continue to emit flames from his prosthetic hand to inflict even more damage on the creature.
Finally, following an impressive Transformation Slash GP, the monster roared and entered a vulnerable state. The Hunter stylishly wielded his swords, leaping into the air and, in an incredibly suave pose, bisected the humanoid upper body of the beast.
Amidst a shower of blood, the Hunter landed stylishly. He grabbed the blade with his prosthetic hand once more, giving it a shake as the flame burned away any trace of blood, and then coolly sheathed his dual swords.
A "simple" no-damage video.
Everyone was somewhat shocked, "Is... Is this the promotional video for ’Blood of Lies’?"
