Why the bug I wrote became a core gameplay mechanic?!
Chapter 347 - 356: The Sword of the Brave

Chapter 347: Chapter 356: The Sword of the Brave

The Sword of the Brave is a special weapon in "Legend of Infinity Fantasy," and its greatest advantage compared to other weapons that could explode is that it does not explode; it only falls into a slumber and reawakens after a period.

This sword was initially obtained in a special temporal relic, and its initial damage wasn’t particularly high. However, at subsequent Elemental Altars, players could enhance the Sword’s enchantment with the Power of the Elements and increase its attack power.

When players first discovered this sword, they were quite excited.

After all, the fact that "it doesn’t explode" was enough to distinctly set it apart from the other weapons in the game.

However, as the game progressed, players increasingly found the Sword of the Brave somewhat bland.

Firstly, its damage was not the highest, its attack power was about 70% of the damage dealt by the top-tier Demon King’s army one-handed sword in the later stages. Even if the damage doubled in an enchanted state to 140%, being a one-handed sword, it still could not match the damage of the Demon King’s army top-tier two-handed weapons, such as two-handed swords, two-handed hammers, two-handed axes, and so on.

Its special attribute of "not exploding" not only failed to make it the players’ most frequently used weapon, but it actually became a weapon exclusively used for chopping trees and cutting grass.

Because players, especially in the later stages, would accumulate many high-damage weapons from the Demon King’s army, which were either more damaging or on par with the Sword of the Brave.

With limited weapon slots, it was simply not feasible for players to carry additional specialized tools like axes and pickaxes for collecting resources.

But using these weapons from the Demon King’s army to chop trees would be a great loss for players.

So, players naturally resorted to using the Sword of the Brave for chopping trees and cutting grass, as it didn’t explode and even if it fell into slumber, a short wait of about fifteen minutes would revive it without affecting anything else.

This was obviously somewhat unbefitting of the Sword of the Brave’s prestige.

Many players complained about this issue on forums, but despite the complaints, everyone felt that under the current weapon system, there seemed to be no better solution.

But the video Wei Chengjie was watching at the moment provided players with another possible solution!

...

In the video, the uploader carried out a series of maneuvers and added corresponding captions on the screen for analysis.

"This all started when I discovered a special ’overload’ bug.

"I realized that in the game, the weapons actually have three different states.

"One is being held in the hand, another is being thrown on the ground. But there’s a third state, that is neither in the hand nor on the ground, but rather sticks to the Hero in some kind of void connection!

"And when enough weapons are ’stuck,’ the Hero enters a specific overloaded state, and these void-connected weapons can be carried over to other saves!

"Right now, I am not sure what the principle behind this is. Logically, these kinds of bugs usually occur due to insufficient memory in skills or code glitches. Since I play ’Endless Fantasy Legend’ on PC, it shouldn’t be about insufficient memory or poor functionality.

"So, I guess it might have something to do with the new engine used by the officials..."

The uploader explained while demonstrating the maneuvers on the screen.

He found steps in a town and then made the Hero crouch with his back toward the steps, then carefully nudged the joystick to maintain a certain distance from the steps.

Then, he opened his backpack and started throwing weapons to the ground to test the distance.

If under the normal game mechanics, there are only two states for weapons in the game: either held in the hand or thrown on the ground.

There cannot be a "neither in the hand nor on the ground" superimposed state.

But the uploader smartly manipulated to induce this state!

According to the uploader’s attempt, the game defaults to throwing weapons behind the Hero. However, since weapons have weight and occupy physical space, throwing them behind can fail due to insufficient space.

At this time, appropriate text prompts pop up in the game, and the weapons return to the Hero’s backpack.

If it were just that, it wouldn’t be enough to trigger any bug.

But this uploader very cleverly thought of another method.

What if when throwing down multiple weapons, the first ones are thrown, but the later ones fail?

The uploader first threw down five repeating bows in one breath, mainly to fill the gap between the Hero’s back and the steps.

Then, the uploader selected two swords, one being the Demon King’s army one-handed sword and the other, the Demon King’s army two-handed sword.

He first threw away the initially equipped Demon King’s army one-handed sword, then equipped the two-handed sword, and quickly clicked the menu button twice to throw away the Demon King’s army two-handed sword as well.

Then the screen prompted "Unable to draw here."

And then, something magical happened.

The previously thrown bows triggered the first state, that is, they were normally thrown on the ground, filling up the space between the Hero and the steps behind him.

The last thrown Demon King’s army two-handed sword triggered the second state, it wasn’t successfully thrown away but returned to the backpack instead.

However, the Demon King’s army one-handed sword that was thrown in the middle entered a very special state. The player was actually not equipping it, but the Hero’s hand was holding the Demon King’s army one-handed sword, and all the attack actions were also completely consistent.

However, the difference was that even if the player chose to sheathe the sword, it would not be sheathed again, but would remain stuck in the Hero’s hand through a bug.

"This is the overloaded state, we can use this method to keep certain weapons stuck in the Hero’s hand. If we throw away the currently equipped sword while in this state, the stuck sword also falls off, and two will fall off; and if we carry out specific operations on the currently equipped sword, such as binding other materials with the Power of Water Element, then these operations will all transfer to the stuck sword!

"Moreover, when we load the save, the system does not clear it away.

"That is to say, if we stick a weapon properly and load another save, throwing away weapons at this time can also cause the stuck weapon to drop out.

"With this principle in mind, we can start tinkering with the Sword of the Brave.

"Yes, right in that initial temporal relic!

"It doesn’t matter if the challenges in this relic have been completed, because they can be repeated, and each repetition will give us an experience version of the Sword of the Brave.

"What we need to do is to use this method to bring out the experience version of the Sword of the Brave!"
