Chapter 327: Chapter 336: There’s Something Wrong with Your Ability
Reentering the thunderous wetlands, Chen Tingquan could only reluctantly leave the spear he had previously glued together on the ground and then continued onward.
It felt somewhat regrettable, as it wasn’t easy to collect and assemble those spears.
But after all, obtaining weapons in this game was fairly convenient, so it didn’t really matter.
Over the next two hours, Chen Tingquan continued to explore the map and complete ruins.
However, as he explored more ruins and the levels of special elemental powers increased, Chen Tingquan began to vaguely sense that something was amiss.
He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but weren’t these abilities becoming less effective?
And it was all of the abilities that were losing their effectiveness!
At first, this feeling wasn’t very noticeable, but after a series of gradual changes, Chen Tingquan’s sensation became increasingly clear. He carefully compared the changes in these abilities, and eventually concluded that indeed something was off!
First was the Power of Fire Element.
Originally, the Fire Element was Chen Tingquan’s most frequently used ability, enabling him to create a Flame Bomb or a living bomb, ignite combustible material on the ground, and inflict direct damage on enemies.
Initially, obtaining the Fire Element power was the most delightful, because the previous heroes were very weak and could only flee when met with groups of monsters. But now, if the Fire Elemental Bomb was properly utilized, he could wipe out all the monsters in a camp at once.
But when the heroes reached higher, no, even mid-level maps, he discovered that the damage of these bombs had actually decreased!
Of course, in the game "Legend of Infinity Fantasy," there wasn’t a setting for "monster levels," but there were still differences in monster attack strength, defense, hit points, and weapon damage, etc.
Chen Tingquan was shocked to discover that where one bomb could originally reduce a small monster’s health by about 1/2, throwing three bombs in succession, coupled with the sustained damage from flames and other attacks like Bow and Arrow, he could easily clear out all the monsters in a camp.
But now, one bomb could only reduce the health by 1/6 or even less!
This meant that even if he used up all three bombs, the monsters would still have at least half their health left, and when facing a group of monsters, the chances were high he would game over.
And the reduction in damage would have many other chain reactions.
After the Flame Bomb exploded, there was a notable blast force, which would scatter the monsters.
So when one bomb could take away 1/2 of the health, Chen Tingquan could completely throw the three bombs in different directions for a fire coverage.
But now, even though the blast still scattered the monsters, the bomb’s damage had become trivial, which left Chen Tingquan in a dilemma: if he focused on throwing at one monster, then the other monsters scattered by the blast would be untreated; but if he spread out the bombs, then the damage was divided among all the monsters.
In summary, the Flame Bomb’s usefulness relied on its damage.
But with the damage not sufficient, it immediately became useless!
Of course, if pushed, it still had its uses, like when the hero wanted to start a fire, this bomb could quickly accomplish that. It’s just that it made quite the fuss, and was likely to scatter food or other objects everywhere.
Chen Tingquan could only persuade himself again, "Alright, perhaps the initial damage of the Flame Bomb was indeed too overpowered, and the attributes of the monsters later increased. If the Flame Bomb could still kill them instantly, then the game really wouldn’t have any challenge."
"It’s passably reasonable..."
Even though the Flame Bomb’s damage diminishing with upgrades was frustrating, Nitiandang players’ ability to adapt came into play crucially at such times.
After all, the initial impression of the game was quite good, and everyone was still willing to keep their faith in it.
But soon, as Chen Tingquan began to enter the new Wind Element Ruins and Earth Element Ruins, he was completely overwhelmed.
"Ah! Why can’t I control the Wind Element? And why am I being dragged along??"
"What the heck just ate me in this earth???"
In the new areas of the Wind Element Ruins, Chen Tingquan was surprised to discover various strong winds at different positions in the corridors, their currents blowing in specific directions.
He originally thought this was some new gameplay mechanic, allowing him to control these powerful Wind Element currents to more conveniently achieve his goals.
However, after a bit of experimentation, he found out he thought too much!
On the contrary, these currents not only failed to help the hero quickly reach his destination but also interfered with the hero’s pre-existing Power of Wind Element!
The hero’s Power of Wind Element was originally for generating propulsion or for grabbing and controlling objects.
But near these strong currents, once the hero summoned the Power of Wind Element, both abilities were greatly disturbed.
As soon as the hero deployed the Glider Wings, he would immediately be sucked in by the current and forced to fly along the path it blew towards, deep into the abyss of the ruins.
In this process, no matter how hard he tried using the Wind Element’s blowing force to break free from the control of the current, it was utterly ineffective.
If the hero stood honestly on the ground, far from the current, he wouldn’t be blown away, but if he tried to grab objects with the Wind Element, the grabbed object would instantly be sucked in by the current, dragging the hero along with it!
In short, as long as power related to the Wind Element was used near the currents, it was like a small stream joining a river, instantly getting carried away and becoming uncontrollable.
Eventually, Chen Tingquan gave up on using the Power of Wind Element altogether and relied purely on jumping and climbing to complete the ruins.
The Earth Element Ruins were even more ridiculous.
The ruins looked normal, just a three-dimensional maze with many caves.
There were passages between the caves, and inside the caves were several large crystal panels, allowing a glimpse of the structures around the caves, facilitating players to use the Earth Element’s power to tunnel through walls.
So, Chen Tingquan very honestly proceeded with the original method, wanting to reach the final room by tunneling through the walls directly.
But as soon as he tunneled halfway, he faintly heard a scream from within the earth, followed by two bright red characters on the screen.
GAME OVER!
Chen Tingquan was baffled; he still hadn’t figured out what exactly happened because, during the hero’s Earth Escape through the wall, the player couldn’t see the specific situations inside, only able to roughly spot the hero’s silhouette through the walls.
Therefore, Chen Tingquan had no choice but to change his location and continue tunneling, but the result was the same as before, dying midway!
After dying several times, Chen Tingquan finally realized something: there were traps in the earth! And not just one!
Only a few areas could be tunneled through at will without leading to the hero’s death. The problem was, there was absolutely no difference between the safe or unsafe areas from the surface.
Doesn’t this mean that the ability to tunnel through walls was also useless?
One can’t rely purely on luck when using this ability, right?!!
