Chapter 309: Chapter 318: Game Expo

Gu Fan was indeed speaking the truth.

In all fairness, does the Myriad Editor actually have that many bugs? Not really.

Although it incorporates many new technologies and mechanisms, making it less stable than the older editors, to the point where other companies don’t favor it, it’s not as if every game made with it would have a hundred bugs.

The reason why "Ascension" previously had so many bugs was that Gu Fan deliberately left them in order to meet Lilith’s requirement of "100 bugs."

In reality, if one seriously set out to fix them, many of these bugs, especially those related to models and textures, were rather easy to rectify.

Following the great success of "Ascension," not only did the official team release several major updates for the Myriad Editor, but also numerous other gaming companies chose it for developing their new games.

Therefore, although the number of gaming companies using this editor is still small, it was indeed becoming a viable option.

Compared to traditional editors, the Myriad Editor is more powerful and also more complex.

At this point, the "Legend of Infinity Fantasy" development team was faced with two paths.

The first path was to use the original engine, which would result in fewer bugs and more stability. However, the game’s unique designs, such as the gravity system and the resulting physical effects, would require additional work, which was still quite a burden.

The second path was to use the latest version of the Myriad Editor. The advantage was that new functionalities, like the gravity and time systems, could be quickly implemented using existing modules in the editor. The downside, however, might be the presence of more bugs.

Even with the testing team’s conscientious efforts and the programmers’ determination to fix issues, some bugs would inevitably slip through.

In comparison, development speed tended to be quicker when using the Myriad Editor.

Wei Chengjie nodded, "Alright, President Gu, then we’ll use the Myriad Editor for development. It just so happens that some of our core programmers have experience with it from developing ’Ascension’."

Gu Fan strolled around and checked on the recruitment situation for the day.

As soon as Nitiandang released their recruitment needs, they were immediately flooded with resumes from all over the country.

After all, Nitiandang had several successful projects, and even a traditional MMORPG like "Shadow World" managed to maintain stable operations. It was clear they were a flourishing and prospering game company. Coupled with urban legends about various bonuses, their pull on talent was quite significant.

Xiao Mingyu was in charge of the initial interviews currently, which mainly involved verifying the authenticity of the resumes and some basic information.

Afterward, department heads would conduct the interviews to determine professional capabilities and initiate the probationary period.

Once the interviews were done, Xiao Mingyu distributed the resumes that passed to the department heads and then gave Gu Fan a brief report.

Gu Fan was fairly satisfied with the recruitment progress so far.

"Oh, and one more thing, President Gu,"

Xiao Mingyu picked up a printed flyer from a nearby desk, "In three months, there will be a large game exhibition in Magic Capital.

"The organizers have invited us. It’s up to you to decide whether we should attend."

Gu Fan took the flyer and glanced at it. The event was called "Magic Capital International Game Art Festival and Expo." According to the content on the flyer, it was a large international exhibition encompassing game hardware, software, related media, and services.

In layman’s terms, various game-related hardware manufacturers and gaming companies would participate in this exhibition, and it wasn’t small.

For invited key enterprises, the expo would provide large booths and designated trial play areas.

Moreover, on the main venue’s big screen, major game manufacturers or hardware companies could promote their new products or games, seizing the opportunity for concentrated exposure and display to domestic and international game media.

Undoubtedly, for some emerging domestic game companies, this was an excellent opportunity.

Nitiandang gaming was making a name for itself in the domestic gaming industry, with several highly successful games to their credit. Thus, the organizers were showing them respect. If Nitiandang confirmed attendance, they would be allocated a substantial exhibition area, and the officials would even provide dozens of trial play devices.

Of course, the specific setup of the booth and related maintenance still needed to be handled by Nitiandang themselves.

Gu Fan thought for a moment before decisively saying, "Let’s go! With such an opportunity, we can certainly promote our new games.

"Let’s hurry up and develop a trial play demo for ’Legend of Infinity Fantasy.’ At the same time, we can also have a test version of ’Shadow World’ version 70 to bring to the exhibition.

"These two games will be our main content for the exhibition.

"The officials should give us about 60 trial play devices. Let’s allocate them this way: 25 devices for ’Legend of Infinity Fantasy,’ 25 for ’Shadow World’ version 70, and the remaining 10 for Nitiandang’s other games like ’Ascension.’

"Additionally, we need to create trailers for ’Legend of Infinity Fantasy’ and ’Shadow World’ version 70 for display and playback on the big screen."

Xiao Mingyu nodded, "Understood, President Gu. I’ll get on that right away."

Creating a trailer for "Shadow World" wasn’t an issue since it was already planned as part of the development for version 70.

The trailer would mainly showcase the new race, new group dungeons, and new map areas of version 70—all in all, pretty standard content, but being custom-made CG, the quality would be somewhat higher.

However, for "Legend of Infinity Fantasy," there wasn’t yet a dedicated CG trailer, and there was no need to produce traditional CG trailers either.

Gu Fan’s idea was that once the demo was ready, they could simply pick a few scenes from it and use live gameplay to create a simple promotional video, saving time and effort, especially since the game itself was meant to win players over with its gameplay.

The focus was really on the trial play segment during the exhibition.

If it were any other gaming company, the trial play segment would be relatively straightforward. As long as they put the demo up and it wasn’t awful, it wouldn’t flop.

But for Nitiandang gaming, it was different because the trial play demo would not only be tested by players but also by President Li.

Since trial play demos weren’t the final version, after the exhibition, work would continue to refine the game before the official launch.

So, what to do if during the trial play, Lilith noticed something amiss and believed that the game wouldn’t gather enough negative emotions upon official release, thereby demanding major changes from Gu Fan?

Therefore, the reception of the trial play at the exhibition was extremely important.

It could neither be too high, prompting Lilith to question the game’s content and forcefully require Gu Fan to make major alterations; nor too low, to avoid ruining the reputation at the exhibition and then not having players for the official release.

The balance had to be carefully maintained.
