While My Mage Wife Grinds, I Power Up Idly -
Chapter 114: Shut Up!
Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Shut Up!
"Ymir!"
When the Evil Power of a high-ranking Demon erupted in the mortal realm, Anna immediately called out to Ymir on the street.
According to Ashu’s plan, now was not the time to continue fighting. They needed to retreat to the Netherrealm to avoid the conflict temporarily.
Ymir might enjoy talking back to Ashu, but in front of Anna, she was still a well-behaved girl.
At once, her scythe trembled, pushing away the Demon before her. Then, with a backward swing of her hand, a Netherrealm rift opened beneath their feet.
The group immediately stepped onto the rift, and with a flash, they were transported to the Netherrealm.
Whether it was due to the mutual attraction of Reaper power, or pure coincidence, the two "Reaper Devotees" ended up in the same place—the mountain stronghold of the Greater Demon Shava.
At this moment, there wasn’t a single Demon left in the stronghold. All had been sent to the mortal realm, leaving behind only a few humans—and an elf.
"How’s the situation over there?" Ashu asked Anna.
His teleportation wasn’t a one-time mass transport, but rather staggered, individual transfers across time.
This meant that the Demonic invasion of the mortal realm was an ongoing event, which in turn gave human powerhouses enough time to react.
That was exactly what he wanted. If Greater Demon Shava arrived too early, the people of Rose Valley wouldn’t even have time to respond and the entire town could be annihilated.
Anna replied, "The Bow King of the Kingdom of Ankgarde is just a few miles away on a nearby hill. There are also several Grand Archmage-level soldiers defending the town, and there are signs of movement from the Imperial Capital as well."
"The Bow King probably won’t make a move—doing so would reveal his identity too soon," Ashu estimated roughly, then said, "I even had Shava bleed off half his Magical Essence on purpose, weakening him. With that, the defensive forces of Rose Valley should be able to hold out for about half an hour."
Anna spoke indifferently, unconcerned about the lives of the townsfolk: "If they’re willing to use the barrier originally meant to trap you against Shava instead, and if the Bow King intervenes, then maybe they could indeed last that long."
Her meaning was clear. With her Twelfth Stage of Spiritual Perception, she could easily analyze the power gap between Shava and Rose Valley.
Even in his weakened state, Shava was still too much for the town to handle.
Hearing this, Ashu said, "Then they can at least hold for fifteen minutes, right?"
"More or less," Anna answered.
"That’s good enough."
With that, Ashu deactivated the "Reaper’s Resolve" mode and returned to his normal state, beginning to rapidly recover using two powerful restoration skills.
Although the abilities of a "Reaper Devotee" were incredibly useful, teleporting over six hundred Demon soldiers and a Greater Demon like Shava had taken a tremendous toll on his body and mind.
Even with the black crystal supplementing him, it only replenished lost Magical Essence—it couldn’t restore his mental energy.
But fifteen minutes—that was plenty for him.
He immediately sat down cross-legged, eyes on his nose, nose on his heart, and began recovering quickly.
"Will Vivita come?" Ymir suddenly asked.
As a devout cultist, she had always harbored some fear of that overwhelmingly powerful Demon Huntress Nun.
Anna shook her head slightly and replied, "No—I haven’t sensed any fluctuation from Vivita. She may have been sent on a mission farther away."
"That means..."
Before Ymir could finish, Anna quickly interrupted her and added, "But the Sword King of the Imperial Capital has arrived. The moment you transferred us, I sensed him heading this way. With the Sword King’s power, there’s no way he wouldn’t know what’s happening in Rose Valley. He’ll certainly show up."
"Sounds like... Sister Anna, you know the ’Sword King’ quite well?" Ymir asked.
"Not personally," Anna explained, "but at that level of combat strength in the Imperial Capital’s circles, there are only two possibilities: either he belongs to the Holy Cultivator Guild headquarters, or he serves under the Royal Family of Atras. There’s no Sword King within the Holy Cultivator Guild, so he must be a tool of the Royal Family. And Rose Valley falls under the Church, which is in name only—it’s actually loyal to the Royal Family’s jurisdiction. They can’t stand by and let their territory fall."
"I see," Ymir nodded, impressed despite herself.
"After all," Anna continued, "if we wait for the Holy Cultivator Guild to send people to expel the Demons, they’ll uncover the Church’s problems here. And once they’ve driven the Demons out, the Guild will reclaim control."
"So they have to hurry and suppress Rose Valley before the Holy Cultivator Guild can act?" Ymir said.
"Exactly."
...
As the two finished their discussion, a quarter of an hour passed quickly.
Ashu stood up again, brushed himself off, and looked fully recharged.
"Let’s go back and farm Divine Points!" Ashu said, glancing at Ymir.
"I never get any," she replied.
"I mean this—we’ll drop the Reaper Devotee act. You send us back to the mortal realm, and I’ll cultivate my reputation among the people under the name ’Luminous Saint.’ That’ll come in handy when I enter the palace in two months," Ashu explained.
Ymir rolled her eyes—so she was just a tool to him.
"Stand still and don’t move. I’m not as practiced at this as you are."
After all, Ashu had practiced the skill of ferrying people from the Netherrealm to the mortal realm over six hundred times. Even if he hadn’t intended to get good at it, it had become muscle memory.
Even Ymir, a bona fide Reaper Devotee, felt a twinge of envy.
She lifted her great scythe, gathering power for a long moment before swinging it sharply.
...
Ashu returned to the mortal realm through the rift Ymir opened.
At that moment, Rose Valley was shrouded in smoke and fire.
The local Mage battalion was unleashing group bombardments on the Demons; Knights with shields formed a human wall; and the few Grand Archmages were each displaying their own uncanny powers as they encircled the Greater Demon Shava. They hovered in the air, the battle fierce, punctuated by Shava’s raucous laughter.
Clearly,
Even with half his Magical Essence drained, Greater Demon Shava was handling a handful of Grand Archmages with ease.
Once he grew bored of playing with them, there was no question what fate awaited those few Archmages.
"Hmm..." Ashu activated his Reaper’s Eye and confirmed the Bow King’s coordinates. Even though Rose Valley had become such a wreck, he was still seated on the hill. But that made sense—he was from the Kingdom of Ankgarde, not the Atras Empire.
"Then it’s time for this ’Luminous Saint’ to take action."
As soon as he spoke, Ashu rummaged in his pockets and then, with both hands, drew out two statuettes of the Divine Mother Goddess—small Divine Mother Goddess ornaments, identical to those used in Kakase.
As a Luminous Saint, merely casting magic wasn’t enough to uphold his prestige; he would hold the statuettes aloft with both hands and let these filthy Demons taste the power of Holy Light.
Before long...
Ashu noticed a family trapped inside a house caught in the crossfire.
At that moment, a group of Demons lurked outside, trying to break down the door and rush in to tear them apart and feast on them.
"It’s time to boost my performance."
Ashu strode forward like a godfather surveying an apocalyptic street, his black robes billowing and his steps steady.
By the time a group of ordinary Demon soldiers spotted him, he was already standing before them.
"Grrr..."
Seven or eight Demon soldiers tilted their heads, staring at Ashu.
To them, he looked so familiar—exactly like the Reaper Devotee who had just helped them invade the mortal realm!
But strangely, they felt no trace of Evil Power emanating from him now; only the repellent force of Holy Light.
"Hey, you there—aren’t you that—"
"Silence!" Before the Demon could finish, Ashu cut him off with righteous authority, raising the Divine Mother Goddess statuette high. "Ugly Demons, back to hell with you! I, Ashu, Luminous Saint certified by the Divine Mother Goddess, command it!"
As he chanted, the statuette in his hand exploded with blinding golden light.
In that instant, half the street was illuminated as if overexposed.
Several of the "old acquaintance" Demon soldiers hadn’t reacted in time before they were burned to ashes.
When the glaring light finally faded, Ashu walked to the sealed door of the house and called inside to the townsfolk: "Children, I swear by the Divine Mother Goddess that you are safe now. Hurry out—I will lead you to the Church for shelter."
Bathed in Holy Light, his words were so kind, so compelling.
Without hesitation, the people of Rose Valley moved the furniture blocking the door and unlocked it.
The moment they stepped outside, they knelt before Ashu.
It was an entire household of men, women, and children—four generations under one roof.
"Great Luminous Saint, you have saved us! Thank you, thank you!"
"Oh, Divine Mother Goddess above, we are grateful to you, grateful to your messenger..."
"My Luminous Saint, we do not wish to go to the Church. To see the Luminous Saint in my lifetime is reward enough. I will follow you, even if I die fighting the Demons!"
"Upon hearing this."
Ashu re-examined the family.
They looked different from those licentious fiends amid this apocalyptic scene.
Indeed, from the two elders, Ashu could feel the faint but genuine power of holy faith.
In this sacrilegious town, finding Divine Mother Goddess devotees was like striking gold in filth.
"I, your god’s devoted devotees, you need not wander in doubt, nor weep in despair. In the name of the Luminous Saint, I guarantee your safety. The Oracle proclaims: Your lives are not meant to end here."
Ashu pretended to deliver the Divine Oracle—among devotees, nothing was more persuasive than a prophecy.
