When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?!
Chapter 97 - 98: Tool Man

Chapter 97: Chapter 98: Tool Man

His other subordinates flinched upon seeing such a brutal act. They wanted to run away, but the branding would kill them the moment they betrayed him. They felt resigned to their fate. They had regretted countless times why they joined this organization.

The leader looked at them. His face bore a crazed smile. "What are you guys looking at? Chickening out? Too bad you can’t."

He found an office chair on the side and sat on it. He turned on his phone and called someone. This time, his voice was no longer cocky... just filled with respect and reverence. "Lord, although there were some mishaps, it’s fine now. I managed to find a way to temporarily use the artifact... Yes, Lord. I’ll do as you say."

After finishing the call, he looked at the dazed men beside him and clapped his hands. "Go, go, go! What are you guys standing there like statues for?!" This time, his voice reverted back to cockiness.

Respect and dignity need to be earned, yes. But being human, everyone should have a shred of respect and dignity towards one another, even if they didn’t earn it... because they are still human. Unfortunately, for a person like the leader, he didn’t view anyone as human except himself.

That is not a rare trait, but encountering people like that is a disaster.

...

"Brother?" Veyr pulled on the trousers of the man.

The man looked down. He was wearing a black goblin’s mask. It was a strange look considering that he was wearing a black formal suit. He put down his phone and carried Veyr onto his lap.

"Why are you still not asleep?" his voice gentle as he cradled Veyr in his arms.

Veyr hugged his suit. "I kept having nightmares, Brother..." He kept having dreams about bleeding dry in front of an underground altar.

He wanted to say that, but for some reason, he held it back.

His brother laughed, his voice deep and soothing. "Why are you scared? You’re a void user and the Master of the Hollow Accord. No ghost or monster could harm you."

Veyr closed his eyes, his heart still beating fast from the dream. "En... You will protect me, right, Brother?"

The man rubbed his head. "As long as Veyr is useful and good to Brother... Brother will always protect you."

That sounded very exploitative, but Veyr didn’t think anything was wrong with it. He smiled. "Of course, Brother!"

Although he was calling the man Brother, he was more like a father to him. Those who died by the titan’s hand were Veyr’s real biological parents... he wasn’t lying. But when he was born, his Brother took him from his biological parents and raised him by his side.

"Brother... Are you not angry that I didn’t succeed in taming the God?" Veyr asked. He was always very sensitive about disappointing his Brother.

"Angry?" the man whispered. "A bit... You even failed to protect the summoning lady that I gave you... She could have aided you in taming the Fake God."

Veyr’s hand clenched. "Sorry, Brother..."

"But that’s okay." The man tightened his hug on Veyr. "As long as you are safe and sound, Brother will always be happy. Veyr is the most important."

Veyr smiled and hugged him back. But his eyes fell on the small bracelet that he was wearing. There were only three beads left. Because he was protected well, he managed to preserve the last three of them.

"I really miss the fun..." Veyr thought, his mind wandering. "Will I meet him again?"

...

"Uhm... Sir, are you really okay?" a hotel attendant asked, his eyes looking at the man who seemed to have come out of a crime scene.

Cail smiled. He was bathed in blood, looking even more tragic when he came out of the rift. "I’m fine. Just put the clothes on the bed and you may leave."

The hotel attendant saw that he was active and bustling, not looking injured at all. He put the newly bought clothes on the bed and quietly walked away.

So what happened after?

Zishi seemed to know where the perfect spot to commit a crime was, but he didn’t know how to deal with the aftermath. He was probably used to having servants at his beck and call, right?

It was also good for Cail. No CCTV and no witness of his fall. A kind hotel staff member throwing out trash did see him looking like a crime scene. Cail remembered the look of horror on that man’s face as he asked, "A-are you okay?! You’re bleeding—"

Cail was muttering in amazement at that time, "Damn. That kid actually pushed me." But he really couldn’t tell the hotel staff the truth, right?

So Cail just made an excuse. "Photoshoot. Quite a rough angle. You should’ve seen the other guy."

After making another room booking, he asked hotel service to buy him more clothes. As for the blood on the ground, he just did what he did during the mess at Jael’s house: mix his void energy into the blood and cut the thread connecting it to him. The blood would be untraceable. Unfortunately, cutting threads to stop the tracing only worked for his body parts.

Cail took a bath once again. But it seemed like he couldn’t take a peaceful shower because his bracelet was complaining.

"You could have dodged that, but you didn’t," the Fake God could be heard gritting its teeth. "You fell down and your body shattered. Then you drained my energy to fix yourself... Are you treating me like a mobile void energy bank?"

"Kinda... But hey, chill. That’s not your main purpose... Mobile void energy bank is secondary," Cail said as he rubbed all the blood off his body.

The Fake God went silent, and Cail could feel its regret. Then after a while, it finally couldn’t hold back. It said, "Dealing with you feels like I’m dealing with Virehn..."

Bingo, Cail thought to himself. He didn’t feel much being compared to that Virehn guy, but the Fake God didn’t feel at ease at all.

"You better not be like him."

Cail ignored him. After finishing his bath and changing into nice clothes, he took out the ring that he had carelessly thrown on the bed. It was hot. He still had some excess energy that he absorbed from the Fake God, so he used the third gear twist.

He could see a thread coming from the ring. It seemed to be connected to something underneath him. Cail could only absorb void energy from living beings that had cold energy—a pity he couldn’t do the same to the artifacts.

"Hmmm... I’m feeling good now." He turned off his glasses. "I should start wrecking some havoc... But I need to be discreet."

Then his phone rang. It was a bit abrupt since Cail wasn’t expecting any calls. It was from an unknown number, but Cail had a feeling as to who it was.

He answered the call. He didn’t speak first, and after a few seconds of silence, he heard a voice from the other side.

"Uhm... Hello? It’s me, the man that you met on the road... The man who traded the sleepless."

Oh, look. For Cail, who wanted to be discreet because of his teacher, the heavens sent him a tool man to do his bidding.
