When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?!
Chapter 96 - 97: Undercurrents

Chapter 96: Chapter 97: Undercurrents

They felt a strong sense of revolt seeing how the young man acted. He was crying like a little child who wasn’t bought a toy from the shop.

Lira is a straightforward woman, so she couldn’t hide her reaction. "You! I thought I had already seen how much those noble children of void users act, but this kind of willfulness is new." It was abnormal. This guy probably had some mental issues.

Yesell tried to salvage the situation. Heck, what if they didn’t get paid after all this mess? "We are not blaming you—"

His voice was cut off when he felt Lira’s push. He staggered a bit and saw Lira pointing her fingers at him. She was fuming mad. "What do you mean ’not blaming’?! That was a human life he casually took! Don’t tell me you’re so blinded by the pay that you’ve forgotten your morals!" Her voice was loud and stern.

The calm expression on Yesell’s face cracked. Although he already knew Lira’s personality, her being blunt straight to his face was somewhat uncomfortable.

He pulled Lira to the side, but Lira pushed him away. He took a deep breath. "Lira! I know you have your boundaries, but think! We need the money! You know we need it desperately!"

His voice was cold. "You know that all of us here have baggage... How will we move forward without the resources to take revenge?!" Yesell said quietly, but his voice was filled with conviction.

Lira frowned, not convinced. "So you’re forsaking your morals just for revenge?! You’re turning into those guys you hate the most."

Seeing that it was getting heated, Ollen butted in. "Guys, we’re in grave danger because we’re marked, since we’re this young master’s bodyguards. I don’t think it’s the time to argue."

Then, just as they were going to ignore Ollen and continue arguing, they heard a shrill scream. It was too familiar to their ears that Lira rolled her eyes in annoyance. "What is it again?!"

She looked at the source of the scream, and beside Egin was Zishi. He was staring at the ground, mouth agape from shock. He pointed at the pool of blood. "Where is the body? WHERE IS THE BODY?!"

The three of them inside paused. They had overlooked that part, thinking that Zishi had probably gotten rid of the body before they came here. As for the blood... it was harder to get rid of, especially when it was already soaked into the ground. It could be explained that Zishi lacked time to clean the evidence... but he didn’t?

Yesell felt weak from his injuries, and arguing with Lira added to his headache. Now that something seemed to be happening again, he had no energy. He looked at Ollen. "Check it once again. What’s going on?"

Ollen walked towards the balcony. There was nothing beneath except the fallen railing and the pool of blood.

He looked at Egin. "You have been standing here for quite a while. Did you notice anything off?"

Egin looked at the pool of blood. He looked dazed. Hearing Ollen’s question, he shook his head. "I immediately realized that the body was missing. I’ve been checking around since a while ago, but nothing looked off."

The three of them were shocked at what had just happened, so they really hadn’t paid much attention. It was Egin, who paid the man in glasses special attention, who noticed the missing body.

Zishi was pale. He was no longer crying, but he looked like he was about to faint. "Don’t tell me the body just walked off?" That guess was too horrifying for him. He was raised spoiled, but he had a tiny bit of common sense.

If the body really rose from the dead, it would probably come after him and kill him.

"Serves you right," Lira muttered under her breath. Yesell gave her a look.

Egin looked thoughtful. He looked at his teammates and stated his guess. "Maybe this isn’t as alarming as we thought? Like what happened to us before. Maybe the body was shifted into another dimension?"

Zishi was quick to support that theory. "Yes, yes, yes! That could explain what happened!" He looked more flustered about the consequences of what he did than about his crimes.

"Delusional," Lira said straight to his face.

Yesell looked at her. "Quit making trouble. We already have a lot on our hands."

Lira was pissed. "I’m the one making trouble? It was this guy who stirred up the hornet’s nest!"

Yesell was already feeling weak and wanted to stop arguing. "We won’t get anywhere if we keep arguing. Let’s get this over with."

Ollen pointed at the blood on the ground. "What about the body?"

"Since it doesn’t seem to affect us for the meantime, let’s just ignore it. We already have a lot of problems. Let’s not add another," Yesell was exhausted. This level of mess, he actually had no idea if the employer knew that it would escalate this fast, but this mess was already above their level.

...

While the group on the 15th floor was panicking, another group hidden in the shadows also encountered a problem.

"What’s going on with the artifact?" their leader frowned as he looked at the mess that his subordinates had made.

One of his men wiped his sweat. "We have no idea, but it suddenly got out of control."

It happened four hours ago. The artifact suddenly started to attack people indiscriminately. This artifact was not bound to anyone, so they just used a special method to use it. Now, it seemed like the seal and the equipment they used to control it were useless.

"How could that happen? That artifact has already been in our organization for many years, and it was fine." The leader’s eyes scanned the group. "Did any of you do something to the artifact? You better open your mouths now, or I’ll force you to."

They were all quick to shake their heads. "We didn’t do anything, sir! It happened suddenly. We swear we never touched anything."

The leader clicked his tongue. He walked to one of his subordinates. "The equipment used to control the artifact doesn’t work now, right?" His cold, snake-like eyes looked at the trembling man.

"Yes, sir. The user of the artifact got absorbed by the artifact." The man was uncomfortable about how the leader was looking at him, but he still answered.

"The artifact went calm after absorbing the user..." The leader’s eyes landed on the small coffin. Inside that coffin was the artifact.

Then suddenly, he grabbed the man by the neck, opened the wooden coffin, and locked him inside.

The man inside the coffin banged the cover again and again. He wasn’t uttering any sound except for the loud banging. Then it was silent.

The leader opened the small coffin. Inside was a dried corpse. It was the man. On his neck was an emerald green necklace. It looked very similar to the ring that Cail had. They looked as if they could be jewelry from the same set.
