Chapter 88: Chapter 89: Inshi’s Coldness

After the call, the young man had been staring at the nothingness. It looked like his soul just got sucked out of him. Cail bit his spoon as he stared at the young man with interest. It’s always fun to watch someone crumble. It’s free drama.

"That roasted guy... He’s alive?" Cail remembered. It was the gardener that loves whipping people. "This is his brother? Looks harmless enough to take a bite."

Cail didn’t engage in any small talk and just let the guy wallow in uncomfortable silence. Just as Cail thought that this peace would continue, there was a knock on the door.

The young man who was staring on the sofa was spooked, and like a cat, he sprinted towards Cail on the bed. He stared at the door warily, then looked at Cail, "A—are you expecting someone?"

Cail sneered, "No, I’m not. But I think you are. Also, just this simple knock is enough to spook you. You should have heard how hair-raising your knocking was on my door a while ago." There was even a bonus anxious knob-twisting.

The young man felt guilty. He looked at the door and thought, "The bodyguards that my brother hired are finally here?" But he was afraid to open the door, then see someone standing there, backward.

He peeked at the man with glasses beside him. "Ahem... I wanna ask, c—can you open the door for me? I know this is very embarrassing but—"

"No." Cail immediately cut him off. He pushed him off the bed, "You open it or it will never be opened unless the thing outside barges inside."

The young man gulped but seeing Cail ignoring him as he lay down again on the bed, he slowly stood up and tiptoed towards the door.

He peeked through the peephole. To his relief, the people outside matched the picture that his brother gave him before. It was the bodyguard that he hired.

The young man happily opened the door, "You guys are here!"

Lira looked at the weak but cheerful young man. Just like him, they also felt relieved seeing him in one piece.

They had been knocking door to door on this floor. They expected the worst, but unexpectedly, the young man was safe.

"What happened?" Ollen asked.

The young man’s eyes shifted. He placed a finger on his lips and made a hush gesture. The four of them immediately realized that there was someone else in the room.

"The people that I’m waiting for. They are here." The young man looked towards the bed. He saw that the man wearing golden-rimmed glasses was now under the blankets. "I—I’ll be leaving..." he said, but the person on the bed didn’t respond.

The young man felt awkward. But sensing that the guy didn’t seem to be sociable and he seemed to have caused him inconvenience, he gently waved at his bodyguard and closed the door.

...

The mirror shattered.

"Get out! You are all useless! Useless!" The man lying on the bed was wrapped like a mummy. From the bandage, one could see how severe the bleeding was from the inside.

"Aires! Calm down!" Inshi hugged the flailing young man. "Your wound will open up."

Sirae on the side was sobbing. "Brother, please stop hurting yourself anymore."

Aires could still feel the burning fire in his skin. It was something that he could never forget. His hands gripped the sheet hard to the point that blood started to leak out from the band-aid.

"Madam is here," the butler said as he opened the door. Coming in was a very young-looking woman. Her hair was long and curly. She was wearing a very curious dress. It was like she was about to attend a ball. It had a big puff and plenty of ribbons on the side.

Her eyes were large and very doe-like. They were filled with tears as she looked at Aires. She directly walked towards the bed and held his head on her chest, "Oh dear, stop doing it. You’re making your mommy sad." Then she saw Sirae and Inshi. She waved at them, "Ladies, you may leave. Aires is not in the right state now. I’ll call you guys back once he calms down."

Inshi and Sirae gently bowed down and left.

Inside the room, it was instantly quiet. Aires didn’t look calm after seeing his mother, he seemed to be quiet because he was petrified.

The woman’s eyes turned cold the moment the door closed. She looked down at Aires and cupped his face. "You’re careless, my child," she muttered. Her big innocent eyes scanned his face as if she was looking at merchandise.

Seeing that it was really damaged beyond belief, she picked his jaw hard. Her nails were long and sharp. They pierced the band-aid directly into his skin. "You’re dumb. I had no idea where you got that... Could it be that someone exchanged my child when I was asleep after giving birth?"

Aires panicked. He held the woman’s wrist. Despite looking petite and fragile, the woman’s strength was no joke. She wasn’t hailed as the Madame Cleaver, a brutal title for such a fragile-looking woman, for nothing.

"Pathetic." She let go of his face. A handkerchief appeared in her hands. She wiped the blood that was on her nails. "A month, I’m giving you a month. You better heal that face of yours..."

She walked towards the door, glancing at the butler who was keeping his head down, she said coldly, "Make sure my ZiZi remains safe. Such an incompetent big brother... I can’t trust him with ZiZi’s safety." Then she opened the door and slammed it shut.

Aires was staring down at his white bedsheet. The butler felt that the air suddenly shifted. And sure enough, Aires once again lost his temper.

He knocked over the lamp, his chest heaving up and down as if he was about to suffocate. "You... Get out!" He pointed at the butler.

The butler sighed and followed his command. He walked out of the room and gently closed the door.

"Was she just here to check my face..." His voice cracked. "Bitch. If she couldn’t keep her title as madame without relying on her child... Then she’s useless. Who does she think she is."

Mother, a warm and safe title. Aires never felt that. A mother for him was someone who was more like a collaborator. Since he was a child, he had been following her commands. Warmth? What is that?

He never felt yearning. If he got power in the future, the first thing he’d do is probably kill her. She knew it, she knew that she was raising a wolf but she didn’t care. She was raising a wolf... Not a child.

...

"Madame... Aires will be fine. He’s a strong person. Even without his looks, his ability is still intact. He could do better," Inshi said. She was in the garden. Aires’ mother was drinking tea right in front of her.

Hearing that, the woman seemed to be agitated, "No, I need to fix his face... What about his self-confidence? I think having a burned face is detrimental. As if he was abnormal."

Inshi clenched her fist... Her face was also burned. Did Aires’ mother think that she was abnormal?

Holding the ribbon in her hand, she looked at Aires’ mother and smiled. "Auntie... How about this—"

I absolutely cannot let anyone cure Aires... What if he’ll find someone better? Inshi’s eyes flashed with coldness.
