When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?! -
Chapter 81 - 82: A New Friend?
Chapter 81: Chapter 82: A New Friend?
A cry broke the rhythm. It was the cry of a child.
The Fake God was made out of countless unwilling emotions, and the moment it heard the cry, the faces embedded on its body also cried.
Buildings shook, and the wind became agitated. The Fake God felt that the soul making it up was slowly separating.
Veyr stood on top of a broken building. His eyes were red; he was crying.
Grief. Regret. Joy. Rage. Ecstasy. All at once.
The entire battlefield surged like a living orchestra, with him as the conductor. The emotion seemed to manifest in the air, affecting nature and other living beings, as if the world was asking them to resonate with the child’s emotion.
Veyr was looking at the Fake God. His eyes were filled with fear and terror. The Fake God also looked at Veyr, and despite Cail controlling it, it was like something got a bit out of control for a second before returning to normal.
But Cail, who was battling with the Fake God spiritually, heard what it was thinking.
"A child with Godhood? No, it’s still human. But dangerous enough."
Cail, who was controlling the Fake God, wasn’t in the mood to think as he was also barely holding on.
Veyr continued crying. The servants were just behind him. Silent. Abilities cloaked. Watching. Waiting. These servants were different from before.
They were eight feet tall and lanky. They were wearing black cloaks just like the others from before, but one look at them, and you would know that what was underneath wasn’t human.
Others were battling the Fake God. They wanted to leave the rift, but it was like they were trapped. This had been happening since they arrived at the gate, and they had just noticed it when the Fake God crawled out from the pit.
It was hell. Dead bodies everywhere. Cail, who had gained a bit of sanity, saw that and thought, "VRA will probably need to hire more people." He remembered Sellene recruiting him.
Cail had no mercy, because whether it was by orders or not, people who came here are willing to contribute to his death. Even if they were following their superiors, the moment Cail died, they, their organization, would be the ones to benefit.
There are certain instances where the law or morality doesn’t apply, and that is on the battlefield.
But he was also laughing.
"Fight me. Fight the Fake God... and when you all fall, I’ll decide who gets to stand."
It was getting straining. Cail decided to end it all. He talked to the Fake God inside his mind, "You are not a god. You’re just another monster that Virehn created," Cail said.
The Fake God responded, "And who are you to determine what is a god or not?"
Cail laughed inside. "At least a normal god isn’t probably this pathetic. But... you’re just Virehn’s cheap father-in-law, right?"
Cail felt the pause and hesitation. Then he heard the Fake God respond, "I’m not his father-in-law\... I’m a god he created."
"Delusional," Cail said. "This is probably the first time you’ve used a mental attack... Well, no one aside from me would probably dare control a fake god, but the first memory that I saw was about a little girl who grew up and married Virehn."
This time, the Fake God was silent. Even if Cail saw the memory, how could he be sure that it was the father-in-law?
Actually, Cail even knew that this Fake God had another half... the failed product, which was the titan. Because the aura of the titan and this Fake God was similar.
Not the basic void energy, but the core. Cail imagined how crazy Virehn must be to turn his father-in-law into an experiment.
"What do you want?" the Fake God asked.
Cail knew that the fish had bitten the bait. "Cooperation."
The Fake God wasn’t fooled. "I saw what you did to the poor abomination."
Cail wasn’t fazed and just smiled. "Yes, and? Didn’t he become part of you? He is alive and well. I even gave him an artifact."
"BASTARD!" Cail heard a scream from inside the Fake God. It was the abomination’s voice.
"Look, he’s very energetic..." Cail was happy to meet an old friend, but the negotiation was still ongoing, so he tried to assure the Fake God, "You’re more useful and strong. I’m sure I won’t get bored with you easily."
The offer wasn’t tempting enough, so Cail added, "Virehn probably put a restriction on you... You can’t go out of this rift. I can help you with that... Just follow my lead and we will kill that Virehn together... Right?"
That offer sounded very similar to what he said to the abomination a while ago. But Cail wasn’t afraid of the abomination snitching. Because he had already removed that memory from the abomination. Heck, even the memory of seeing Cail’s face was already removed.
Cail’s offer hit a spot for the Fake God. Although he didn’t acknowledge that he was Liana’s father, that memory was his most dominant memory. He could still feel his daughter’s warmth and expectations before they were squashed to death by Virehn.
As a Fake God with no motivation, his anchor was revenge. He wanted to become stronger and kill Virehn.
Cail knew from the Fake God’s silence that he was hooked. "That’s a deal now? If not, then we will both die here."
The Fake God felt speechless. He was confused as to how a human as weak as Cail managed to create this mess. "He wasn’t even a fraction of the Law Maker’s power, but he managed to resist the overwhelming influx of memories," the Fake God muttered inside.
Cail heard it. He smiled underneath his helmet. "You just underestimated human insanity." He knew that he wasn’t quite right in the head.
"It’s a deal," the Fake God said calmly. The worst thing that could happen to him from now on was probably death, and he was very happy to face that.
Seeing its cooperation, Cail was happy. "Great! But first step, you need to let all your excess energy burst. If not, then I can’t bring you out. You’re just too heavy."
The Fake God didn’t care, but he looked at the people below and asked, "Are you gonna kill the stronger ones?"
While Cail could sense what the Fake God was thinking, the Fake God could feel a bit of what Cail was feeling. It wasn’t much because the Fake God felt that there was a barrier blocking something.
Cail looked at the messy battlefield. "No, just injure them until they’re bedridden. I’m still having fun, and I want to see them grow." After saying that, Cail gave the Fake God a skeptical look. "And also, you’re talking big about killing them... Can you really do it?"
The Fake God was annoyed. "Shut up."
