When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?!
Chapter 72 - 73: The Titan

Chapter 72: Chapter 73: The Titan

Sellene was looking at the rubble. It was peaceful, meaning that the people chasing after them weren’t here yet.

"Lady?" a voice sounded from behind her.

Cail saw her staring blankly. The moment he called her, her hair stood up like a spooked cat.

Given her ability, she should have sensed him, right? Oh, I forgot. Because of his attribute, people tend not to sense any of his presence.

Sellene didn’t think there was something wrong with her not sensing anything from Cail. She just looked at him accusingly and said, "You! Why are you scaring me like that?!"

"You’re in a daze." Cail was now a bit skeptical about her survival instinct. "Nothing went wrong, right?"

"Everything is fine." Sellene didn’t notice that Cail was looking down at her. "What’s the new information about that guy?"

Cail touched his space mark. "I already got all the information."

"So where is he? What are we going to do with him?" Sellene asked, thinking about the troublesome regeneration ability. She was clueless as to how to kill him.

"He vanished," Cail said nonchalantly. "After saying all that information... he puffed away like smoke."

Sellene’s eyes widened. "That doesn’t sound right!" Then she narrowed her eyes at Cail. "You’re not joking with me, right?"

"I’m also feeling helpless. After the interrogation, he just disappeared." Cail’s voice didn’t have a shred of guilt. "You can check it out. The coffin wasn’t shattered." Whether she believed it or not, the fact that the abomination vanished was legit.

Hearing him say that with confidence, Sellene lost interest. "If that’s the case, then that’s it." Then she pulled his sleeve. "Now tell me, what did you discover?"

"We need to open the gate," Cail said, having already concocted his reasoning. "He said that we need to kill the God while he is still in his slumber. There seems to be a timer. We need to move now."

"What do you mean by timer?" Sellene started to lose her cool. "Also, are you sure that information is legit?! What if that guy tricked you?! You’re the type that’s very easy to trust!"

At the first sentence, Cail wanted to respond, but hearing what she said at the end almost knocked him out. What did she mean that he is easy to trust?

One couldn’t really fully blame Sellene. From her perspective, Cail was an innocent but mischievous guy. First, she found him innocently wandering around the void, looking all confused. Then their second meeting was him falling into a trap, being injured and almost dying. Although he left her before, she knew that it was just normal to want to avoid trouble. He even gave her a bracelet to escape.

Seeing that she was feeling lost about her relationship with her father, he gave her advice. So far, Cail had a pretty clean image from her perspective.

Cail, looking at her worried expression directed at him, felt that everything seemed to be going just according to his plan... but it also seemed to have surpassed it.

I guess all the mess-ups contributed to his pathetic image? That sounded very sad.

"There should be some truth in what he said." Cail ignored her assumption and continued his scheme. "The gate is at the central part of this city. There should be a hidden staircase going down there."

Sellene had no problem with it despite feeling skeptical about the reason. She didn’t believe that there was a crisis that couldn’t be solved with brute force. They just needed to be cautious enough when they approached the gate.

Of course, all of that caution would be thrown to the wind by Cail. But for now, Sellene was still pretty calm.

"You need to be careful... Also, how did that Virehn manage to multipurpose that key?" Sellene muttered under her breath.

Cail shrugged. "No idea... But we should get going... And also, this thing seems to have exceeded our expectations. Maybe call your father with us as backup. Well, just call him if the situation escalates."

But of course, Cail didn’t forget his scheme. "You don’t need to tell him all the information. Just enough for him to understand the severity of the situation."

Sellene was feeling nervous. "Are you sure everything will be fine?" She did have a bit of a sense of crisis now.

"Probably..." Cail said. He held onto Sellene’s hands.

Sellene sighed and resigned herself to her fate. She started dragging him at neck-breaking speed.

...

They were already near the center. Cail’s bracelet hid Sellene’s presence while his attribute hid his.

Sellene noticed that Cail seemed to be panting. She froze his shoes and glided him across the ground. Cail looked at her, not expecting her to be thoughtful. That couldn’t be him.

This trip had been too uneventful for Cail’s comfort, but he suddenly sensed a strong aura heading toward him.

That aura was too familiar and sudden, like it suddenly popped out of nowhere.

Cail’s eyes widened. "Go faster!"

Sellene’s heart beat fast. "What’s wrong?!"

"It’s the titan..." Cail saw that it was approaching fast. It seemed to have a goal. "It’s after us!"

"The titan?!" Sellene had no idea what that was, but from the name, it didn’t sound good.

Sellene didn’t have to worry about what it looked like, because after she said that, like it was being summoned, its huge, towering body peeked out from one of the buildings.

Looking at its menacing size, Sellene felt death.

Without hesitation, she slammed her palms down.

Three massive walls of ice erupted from the earth, layered one after another. But she could feel the void energy draining from her like blood from an open wound. Judging by the titan’s size, even triple barriers wouldn’t be enough.

No time to think. She raised her hand again. Ice spikes exploded from the ground like spears. Her hair lifted in the freezing wind, glowing blue strands dancing violently as her entire body became wrapped in a harsh, flickering aura of frostlight.

This was the first time Cail saw her going all out. The trees around them crackled as they turned to brittle glass. Broken buildings were glazed over with a thin sheet of ice. Even the air had turned to ice... every breath Cail took burned in his throat. He felt like he was inhaling knives.

Cail increased his void energy coating. It managed to block the freezing cold, but it was draining fast.

The titan looked at the wall of ice and didn’t make a sound. It slammed its fist on it, and—

BANG!

It shattered.

Cail felt the force. He was almost sent backward by the aftershock coming from the fist. Sellene steadied her footing, and ice formed around her fist.

Dozens of razor-sharp ice shards surged into the sky, spiraling into a single, massive arrow.

The arrow made a shrieking sound as it tore through the battlefield. A frozen lance that turned everything it touched to crystallized ruin. The trees it passed crumbled. The ground split under its trail. The air itself seemed to freeze in time.

But the titan laughed.

It stepped forward... straight into the arrow’s path.
