Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Saeb

So that’s basically what happened. It escalated to the point that a horde of monsters was hot on his trail.

Seeing that the building was already ahead, he mustered his meager void energy to cover up the fact that they were approaching. Of course, this calculation was good, but one cannot be too complacent. A monster managed to reach Cail and slammed him into the wall.

The wall shattered, and Cail fell through to the other side. He could feel his past and new wounds aching like crazy.

He knew that there were people in front of him, but he didn’t bother looking at them closely. He stood up, and out of bastardness, greeted them with a "Bye bye!"

Then he ran out immediately, leaving the angry mob behind him.

...

"What’s going on?!" Seban was speechless about the whole situation. He punched the huge owl that was coming after him.

Aires defended Sirae behind him as he killed one of the lesser monsters. He looked the way where the man left and couldn’t help but ask, "Who was that?"

The Tyrant’s face looked like it was dripping black ink. He was obviously very displeased about the entire situation. He had never been schemed against this lowly before. The monster circling him burst into pieces. Seeing this, Seban frowned and scolded him, "You small fucker, you don’t learn. I told you to avoid minimal damage to the building." He was referring to staining the entire hall with flesh.

The Tyrant felt that he was noisy. "You shattered the window a while ago. Who are you to speak?"

"You guys are quibbling like children," the chairman said. He looked at Saeb, who was burning the monsters to ash with a flaming sword, in approval. "Saeb, it looks like you’ve improved since the last time I saw you."

That sentence fueled the Tyrant’s displeasure. His pressure increased, and the ground cracked.

It was easy to clear up the monsters, but they noticed something. Aires spoke up, "Aside from that man in a helmet before, there seemed to be a group of Uldun together with these monsters. They vanished suddenly while we were distracted."

Arny frowned. "These monsters... They should be sealed, right? How did they get out?" Then he voiced his suspicion, "That man before, did he do this? What was his purpose?"

After that man appeared, his presence was nothing... like you couldn’t sense his existence. If they weren’t distracted by the monsters, they would have followed. But just by sensing the void energy, they couldn’t get anything similar to a trace from that man.

After burning off the corpse, Saeb looked in the direction where the man vanished. His ability is Raging Inferno, but his face looked slack as a dead fish. No emotion, no fluctuation. It was calm and silent. No wonder Cail hated Hal before; the two of them had the same coffin face.

Taking a closer look, there are differences. Hal looked proud and cold, but this Saeb looked robotic and dead. Saeb felt like an emotionless machine.

Saeb felt something about that man before. He couldn’t pinpoint it. It was something he had never felt before.

Growing up, he was a model child. He followed the path of excellence. But as smart as he was, he noticed something wrong with himself.

It felt boring. Too boring to the point that everything seemed to be so easy. He excelled in his world and the other world. He could get everything that he wanted with minimal effort.

"Saeb." He heard someone calling his name.

Saeb turned his head and saw the Tyrant looking sharply at him. "Let’s duel."

All that Saeb felt was boredom. Honestly, the Tyrant was someone very powerful. A man powerful enough to rival him. He knew that they were a match, but for some reason, the Tyrant never excited him.

It was not enough. The Tyrant and he were on equal footing. The two of them were dubbed the pinnacle of talent. But what Saeb wanted was something that surpassed them. He wanted to see someone above them so that he would have the drive to move forward.

Saeb looked at the Tyrant with dead eyes. "I don’t have the time to play with you." Then he fixed his wrinkled shirt and continued investigating.

...

The Conductor-level Cail had no idea that his half-brother felt something after seeing him. Well, even if he knew, he’d probably just sneer and find a way to torture the guy.

He found a place to hide. Veyr in his arms was sleeping, or maybe pretending to sleep, but he didn’t seem to move.

"Are you an old man pretending to be a child?" Cail muttered. But based on his observation, Veyr’s reaction really seemed to match a child’s, aside from the cleverness.

"Whatever. You’re mine now," Cail said happily. He felt Veyr shaking but ignored it. He happily went inside a tunnel that he found together with his officially newfound toy.

The tunnel seemed to be an abandoned train tunnel underneath. It didn’t smell like anything, but it did feel a bit suffocating inside.

He walked slowly like a tourist, not by choice, but because he felt something poking in his organs. It could be a broken rib or something.

Cail ignored the pain, but physical reactions such as cold sweat and trembling were still there.

The tunnel was filled with graffiti. But upon closer look, he realized that it wasn’t graffiti... it was oxidized blood writing something.

Virehn GO TO HELL.

YOU ARE A DEMON!

LEAVE US ALONE!

Different from the praise a promising genius would receive, this tunnel showed that Virehn was hated.

Curses and vows of vengeance were written on the tunnel walls. It was filled with palm prints and blood. Cail saw no skeletons or remains, but based on the reddish-brown blood on the ground, Cail pictured something horrifying.

It felt like all the people in the city were gathered in this tunnel and were squashed to death.

"Same idea as humans getting blended in a blender," Cail thought. "Maybe I should stop watching horror movies."

He continued walking to find any clues, but he stumbled upon something unexpected. It was a document. It was very similar to the parchment paper in his space.
