Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Veyr

Cail narrowed his eyes. He could see it. The monster that had just emerged from the corpse was as weak as a newborn. While he was not certain of its strength and agility, he could see a pure red circle pulsating out of its chest. It was fragile because of the cracks surrounding it.

"This is the time."

The void energy that had been tied to his hands vanished. A rifle appeared in his hand. It was a sudden move that no one managed to react to. Cail pulled the trigger after aiming at the circle.

He had the feeling that after it emerged fully, it would definitely not be weak, just like how its fingers suddenly grew long.

BANG.

Bullseye!

He managed to hit the core.

"SHRIEEEEEEK!" The monster made an inhumanly uncomfortable sound. It resembled a sound coming from a broken microphone. It was piercing and painful.

Cail carried Veyr with him. One of the masked men was left behind to check the monster, and the others ran toward Cail.

After a few hours of staying here, Cail had already planned a route. He smashed one of the windows open and jumped out.

The masked men were certainly powerful. Cail knew that. But fortunately, he had a chip on his hand.

When one of the men was about to grab him, he suddenly raised Veyr as a shield.

The masked man was startled. He redirected his aim and smashed his claws into the ground. That was a scary force. Cail saw that the ground looked like an earthquake had just ravaged it, based on the cracks.

"Ruthless." He clicked his tongue.

Veyr and the men looked at Cail in shock. Veyr couldn’t help but ask, "You know?!"

Cail looked down at him. He was smiling under the helmet. "Aye, I know. I can see a thread connecting you and those masked men."

He lifted Veyr and took out an artifact from his pace and placed it on Veyr’s throat. Of course, he couldn’t use it... but not in a way that he couldn’t slit someone’s throat with it.

"Stand back, or I’ll kill him," Cail threatened.

Veyr panicked a bit. He tried to summon his void energy, but it seemed like something was suppressing it. He looked at Cail in shock. "You, you did something to my core?!" The only reason he did not fight back when Cail searched his void energy was because he had been using an artifact to protect his core and also hide his void signature.

Cail admitted it. "Yes. Not just to your core, but I also spiked your food." He was even proactive in tattling his crime.

Veyr felt that he was a scum. "Did you already suspect me?!"

Cail was already a bit of a distance away from those masked men as they didn’t dare approach him.

The artifact that Veyr used seemed to also weaken his void energy. That was also the reason why Cail didn’t notice, but he still managed to seal his core.

"I didn’t suspect you." Cail was being honest. "No matter if you are a mastermind or just an innocent child, I’ll still spike your food and seal your core."

Then Cail shrugged his shoulders as if it were a matter of fact. "A child or not, you’re a stranger, after all."

"You psycho..." Veyr’s eyes were already burning wide from rage.

Cail smiled. "Well, this isn’t all of it. I still have something interesting..."

He looked back and saw numerous lights in the ruins. He had no idea what they were, but they should be living beings emitting void energy.

He looked at the group of masked men. He waved his hand. "Come here! Chase after me. You need to catch me or I’ll kill your master!"

That sounded pretty much like a taunt, but those men didn’t want to risk it.

Then he kicked a rock under him. This rock... it was a seal. Cail could see that a creature was trapped underneath. He also confirmed it through his talk with Veyr before, that the reason why, except for the powerful titan, there weren’t any void creatures running around this rift was because this was a semi-controlled rift.

Most creatures were already sealed by those void users.

Now, the rock under Cail was one of those seals. With his null, it was easy to break such an already struggling seal.

Yes, it was already almost dissipating. He had no idea why the VRA didn’t check on this, but he had a guess that those with evil intentions seemed to have intentionally weakened the seal for something.

Whatever the plan was, it was very advantageous for Cail.

CRASH!

The seal shattered. Then the crashing sound was replaced by a loud roar.

"ROAAAAAAAAAR." A giant creature that resembled a cow and an eagle emerged from the ground.

Cail laughed like a maniac, and Veyr felt like fainting. Veyr regretted telling this guy a lot.

"Hahahahhahahahaha!" The monster ignored Cail because he used his ability to mask his presence. Cail looked back and saw the masked men dodging the monster’s attack. He knew that those men would probably defeat that monster, so he needed to ’unlock’ the other ones.

Seeing the mess, Veyr was having a mini heart attack. "You could have just escaped while holding me! Why do you need to make a mess? How can we find the Coreline with all of this happening?!" He was going insane.

Actually, Cail could have escaped holding Veyr as a hostage, but...

"I hate it," Cail said. He looked down at Veyr, whom he was carrying like a sack of potatoes. "I hate it when people trick me."

Veyr tried to explain, "I didn’t mean you any harm! I actually like you!" He tried to calm the furious Cail. "I wasn’t about to sacrifice you! I was just messing with you! No need to do this."

Cail wasn’t appeased at all. "No. I still hate it. Whatever the reason is, I hate it."

"I’m the only one that should manipulate people. I hate it when people try to manipulate me."

Actually, Cail had already suspected something when he encountered those seven strange men before. He had been encountering them a lot since taking this kid. They didn’t have the same thread as the masked men chasing after him, but they were just suspicious.

"Those masked men were probably higher-ups, right?" Cail said. "You must be communicating telepathically with them."

The thread was the telepathic connection.

Veyr’s heart thudded. But Cail had other plans in mind.

He screamed at the top of his lungs, "I’m gonna feed your master to the creatures if you don’t manage to catch me!" Then he grabbed the thread with his hands and cut it.

Veyr felt the connection sever. He was already crying at this point. "You, why are you doing this?! I’m not gonna harm you!" he repeated again.

Cail tapped his forehead. "I’m not gonna harm you too. I’m just messing with you." Cail tossed back what Veyr had said a while ago.

Let the chaos begin.

As for how he would deal with things after all of this? Look at the bright void energy gathering at the building that Cail visited before. There should be a lot of competent guys there.
