When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?!
Chapter 116 - 117: Meeting Father

Chapter 116: Chapter 117: Meeting Father

The cleanup that Cail had called for finally arrived. After they cleaned up the body, Cail walked away with his loot.

They didn’t bring much—just some junk artifacts that could be used in daily life as tools. There were a few books and an ominous-looking token that seemed to be sucking the energy out of the carrier.

"They probably didn’t know this either." Cail surveyed the ominous token. It slowly corroded the void energy of the carrier and ate them from the inside.

The token was made out of an unknown kind of metal. It was black, with a carving of the sun on it. The sun should be a symbol of brilliance—why was this token so dark?

For some reason, he remembered the legend that Iven had talked about. It should be Illunis, right? The dead Sun God?

"I should look into legends about gods. Since void energy exists, then maybe some of those legends are real."

He was quick to take action. He stopped at an open store and bought some books. He sat on an empty park bench and continued reading.

To be honest, he wasn’t expecting anything while reading the book, but he did discover something disturbing—it was about the gods and their deaths.

There were different generations of gods. Cail realized that every god couldn’t last for more than 10,000 years. They would all be killed for random reasons. It was like a natural cleansing.

He connected it to the Dealer War Bell. If these legends were real, don’t tell me he was the cause of their deaths?

Closing the book, he thought it was none of his business, really. He hadn’t met any real god, and it would probably still be a long time before meeting one.

As for now, he should head home and rest early. It’s not every day that he can sleep peacefully.

...

After he went home, the television was still on and his mother was watching some melodramatic drama. On one side of her was a piece of tissue, and on the other was a box full of sunflower seeds.

Hearing the door open, she looked at Cail and greeted him, "Oh, you’re home."

Cail felt a bit of goosebumps. He wasn’t used to this kind of treatment. He sat down beside her and grabbed a handful of sunflower seeds.

"Did you already eat?" she asked.

"Yes." He had already eaten at the restaurant earlier. He wasn’t sure how long the transaction would last, so it was better to feed himself.

Blackie was beside the television, acting like a decoration. He was sleeping snugly beside the books.

It was a peaceful night. But of course, would fate really give Cail a rest?

There was a knock on the door. Cail stood up and looked through the peephole.

Standing outside wasn’t some cultist, but an old man. He wasn’t an ordinary elderly grandpa, but a stern one. He was wearing an expensive suit, and his hands were wrapped in gloves.

Cail opened the door. The old man’s eyes lit up when he saw him. Just as he was about to say something, Cail closed the door behind him and crossed his arms. "What do you want?"

You want me to invite you inside? Hah. Not a chance.

The old man cleared his throat. To be honest, he looked very snobbish and arrogant. He tried to hide it, but the way he looked at people through his nostrils said enough about his personality.

"You are Master Cail. Your father wants to talk to you. He’s inside the car."

Cail looked at the road and saw an expensive car parked at the side. Then he looked at the old man and sneered, "You scammers are really heartless. My father is already dead. Why would you say that my father is looking for me? Leave, or I’ll call the police."

He already knew what was happening, but he was a bit curious. Why was that "father" of his so insistent on recognizing him as his son? Cail wouldn’t believe it if he said that he hadn’t known about Cail’s existence before.

Something fishy must be going on.

The butler felt choked hearing what Cail said. He wanted to say how impolite that was, but he remembered what his master told him. He gave a stiff smile. "Young master, your father is still alive. I don’t know what your mother told you, but your father wants to recognize you." Then he felt he needed to throw out a bait. "Your father is Chairman Eldreth."

The butler believed that none could resist that name—it was a synonym for wealth and power in Nyx City. Even if this felt like a scam, wouldn’t they feel tempted?

Cail’s eyes turned cold. "My mother didn’t say anything bad about my father. I just assumed that he was dead because there has been no presence of him since I was young. And please, don’t scam me. I don’t have time for that nonsense."

Zzzzzzz

The butler was about to retort when his earpiece buzzed. He paused for a second and nodded before giving Cail a complicated look. "The chairman said to stop playing games. He wants to offer you something. If you want to know about it, you’d better come to him."

Oh, that fucker is that arrogant? He seemed to be very confident that no one could refuse the benefit. Well, what if Cail felt that whatever the benefit was didn’t outweigh the disgust he felt upon meeting him—what would he do?

Based on the word *offer*, his intention for meeting Cail wasn’t pure. Not for reminiscing about fatherly love, but more like a cold calculation.

"Oh, if I don’t want to participate in the deal, what would he do? Kill me? I’m also not playing games. Tell him that I detest him more than he detests me." If the competition was about arrogance, then Cail was probably the winner.

This time, the butler was sweating. He didn’t know if this young master knew that his earpiece could transmit everything, but he knew that his master could hear what Cail just said.

Instead of getting angry, the man on the other side laughed.
