Chapter 57: Not Tribes

Chapter 57: Not Tribes

The silence in the tent is sometimes interrupted with the sound of the wind outside. The three people in Aeryon tent is thinking about what he had just said.

And they all have different calculation in their hearts and their mind. Their face expression shows different expression.

And each of their expression fell into Aeryon eyes.

Out of the three people, only one person he could tell that did not fully onboard with what he is saying.

"When I looked at our people, Marynku, Ashran and Eresian...we are a group of people who lived in a state of no order. I see hundreds of tribes constantly fighting. And what for?"

His tone began to rise

"The tribes of the Great Steppe fight for short term gain, pitiful resources. It almost seems like the people of the Great Steppe is incapable of combining their strength or resources for the common good"

This is how he began his word.

Belarion nodded without understanding. But he understood something. He understood that his sworn brother did not like it.

Belarion had no other opinion about it. Whether the tribes fight each other or not, to him this is not his concern.

Belarion concern has always been simple. He is the kind of person that only sees what is in front of him. He cares about simple things.

The more complicated things in the world, he chose to ignore. Maybe it is that kind of simplicity that gave him such blessing of strength

To him the tribes fighting, fighting for livestock, land and women.... this is the natural order of the world.

Belarion himself is born in this kind of environment and lifestyle.

The tribes have been fighting each other for hundreds of years.

It is not weird to him. Instead, it is the norm.

Mayeux on the other hand understand what Aeryon is trying to say. And the more he understands, the more he became excited.

His heart is betting loudly in his chest.

Rukari like always maintain his expressionless face. He did not show any discernible attitude.

Aeryon got up and then he said

"We terrorized Yan and we cross the Roma River and the Great Steppe traces could be felt all over the four corners of the Great Steppe and beyond it!"

"At times, we lose, at times we win. Our people are called bane, monsters and many other things. From their words, we appear so strong but yet we were beaten badly each time the forces of the Empires came"

"I am unwilling!"

"Why couldn’t we pool our strength with each other? Instead, we are as dangerous to each other as we were to other civilizations we encountered"

Aeryon paused his words and seems to be closing his eyes.

Aeryon understood something very clear when he got the memory of the original Aeryon into his mind.

The condition of the Great Steppe of this world is very similar to the environment of the Eurasian Steppe of his world with a few minor differences.

For example, the Mongolian Steppe bordered the Song dynasty.

In this world, the great Steppe bordered many empires.

But there is a difference.

For example, the route toward Yan dynasty is not a road filled with sands and dessert.

Instead, there is forest and green grass.

So, Aeryon recognise the strategical importance of the settlement of the Brolgadhr.

This is one thing that he did not share with Mayeux or anyone. The other reason why he decided to take back the settlement of the Brolgadhr is because of this strategical importance.

Because it is close to Nurshira.

However, if he only relied on this, he would not dare to have such a grand plan of uniting the entire Great Steppe.

He believes that it could be done because the condition is right.

The life of the people of the Great Steppe is a harsh life. Yet, the hardness of life also forced families, clans, and tribes to depend on one another for survival.

Morality is based on a culture of sharing. Generosity is considered a virtue, as was loyalty and telling the truth.

Treachery and lying could be punishable by death.

This is what he saw and this is what he knew.

And so, he could saw a future where the Marynku culture of sharing and cooperation could be extended to all the tribes, uniting the Marynku peoples into one, dominant force.

Together, the people of the Great Steppe could harness their power and enrich their lives by extending their influence beyond the steppes.

He envisioned a day when he would die, to be reborn......to be something else

And he wanted to be reborn to be the greatest conqueror the world would ever know. There is already a ready-made template he could use.

The Great Steppe, a culture that is very similar to the Mongol culture in his world. Yes, Aeryon wanted to recreate the brilliance of Genghis Khan in this world

He then spoke to his uncle and to Belarion and to Mayeux about this. He highlighted this reason.

And then Rukari ask

"What do you mean?" he had a feeling an inkling of what this nephew of his wanted to do. But he almost couldn’t believe it.

Because he thinks such idea is insane.

"Marynku, not tribes" Aeryon suddenly said. He knew he must word this carefully.

He must outline his plans and his ambition clearly.

Belarion is easy to persuade.

It is Mayeux and his uncle that he truly needs persuade.

As long as he could convince Mayeux, he would gain a dedicated and loyal advisor.

As long as he could convince his uncle, the Elders would sing to his tune whatever he wanted to do.

Internal problems must not pop out as he looks further to other places.

"Clans and tribes have always been the basis of the life of the Steppe"

At this all three of the people in the room nodded

But then suddenly Aeryon spoke about something else

"The Ashran lives near the East and near the Central Steppe. The North is dominated by Eresian. But the south and the west is filled with Marynku"

"What does that have to do with anything?" Rukari asked

And then Aeryon repeated the words

"Marynku not tribes"

"Our Marynku people never saw themselves as one people; they identified themselves by the small, tight-knit groups with whom they shared their camps, their hunts, and their migrations"

Rukari face become solemn and Mayeux eyes is shining bright. Rukari seems to understand now what Aeryon wanted to do.

And the more he understood, the more his face turns cold.

Aeryon notices the cold hard expression on his uncle face and he looks towards him.

"What you are attempting to do...is almost impossible" he said. Aeryon smirks. He did not say anything.

But in his heart, he thought to himself, "I have been transported to this world with a system. The condition and the times are right. I have the resources; I have the perfect circumstances. If I do not take this opportunity and take a chance...I probably would regret it when I died in a ditch somewhere, being nobody when he could have been somebody"

What Rukari thought is impossible, Aeryon believe it was possible. In this world, there is nobody that have ever unify the Great Steppe.

Because of that everybody thought it was impossible. It never crossed their minds. And even if it did, the seemingly monumental task seems too hard to achieve.

But in his world, there was someone. The Great Steppe of this world is bigger than the Steppe in his world.

However, if he can do it, Aeryon believe that with the system and the knowledge he had, he also could do it.

Then he paused and spoke

"This tribe, this tribal structure...is our greatest weakness"

Rukari sighed.

"As expected," he thought to himself.

Aeryon paused and then said

"All of my life, I saw major tribes competing against one another, never advancing or improving their lives. How many times have our people being slaughtered by the Yan? Let’s not talk about the Western Great Steppe and the Northern Great Steppe. Let’s talk about this area. The Southern Great Steppe that borders with Yan"

Aeryon feel even more anger in his heart as he speaks. It is like he resonated with the original Aeryon feeling.

"They foment dissent, they slaughter our people, kidnap our children to become slaves. The man they cut off their manhood, turning them into eunuch and laugh at us. They promised many things but each promise they gave they broke"

"They repressed the religion of our people; they repressed our freedom. The future of any people that is not Yan in that land, is a future of repression and of despair."

The anger in his heart grew.

"We the people of the Great Steppe must not let them to divide us. They are a danger to us and they could not be trusted. To them, anyone of not their race could not be trusted. They have angered the Skyfather and The Earth Mother. And if need be, I shall become the punishment of the Divine for them"

The Great Steppe is not at all blameless. They also killed people. And the horse riders also rape the city and the woman

In this era, what they did is common. Every culture, every empire, every power and forces do the same things.

But the value they held is very different.

And at least even in their brutality, their brutality has purpose. Just like how they would shed every part of a livestock when they die to the bones, they have purpose.

The purpose might not seem evident to the people of Yan but they were honest about it. To them, there is nothing wrong with it.
