Chapter 394: Mayeux Thoughts
Chapter 394: Mayeux Thoughts
A Day Later
Mayeux was in his tent reading the report and he nodded
"Belarion and the Kan really could achieve such result" he said as he puts down the report on the small table in front of him and he shakes his head with a smile
He did not agree with the Kan plans because he always believe that the West should be secured first.
But who would have thought that the death of the Kazan chief would make the north of their tribe become so vulnerable.
"I know it would be vulnerable. I just never thought it would be that vulnerable" he thought to himself.
The Kazan focusses down, so they attack up. Utgard tribe on the other hand probably did not get the news fast enough to give any aid to Wustkazan.
It is weird if you think about it. Why would Utgard would provide aid to Wustkazan? After all, Kazan and Utgard is allied with each other and Kazan has always been intending to take Wustkazan and Utgard tribe also knows this.
But the basis of this is that Kazan must be the one that takes Wustkazan.
It is confusing. For the one that did not know the weird dynamic of these tribes, they would surely be swallowed whole.
The Central Great Steppe is stable, the Western tribes are mob like, the eastern tribes keep to themselves and for the Norther Great Steppe, they are the most mysterious.
But to say which one has the most complicated dynamic between tribes, Southern Great Steppe takes the crown.
Hence, if Kazan forces were present they would surely have send aid to Wustkazan.
Hence why the Rudya tribe was attacked.
Because Kazan wanted Utgard tribe to become a buffer between the Kazan and Wustkazan while at the same time making them able to send soldiers when they wanted to because Utgard was an ally.
That is the plan of the previous chief of Kazan.
The young chief thought differently and did not know the pan that was meticulously crafted by his father.
Utgard tribe if they know that Aeryon had attacked would have two choices.
They either have to remember that they are aloes allied with the Brolgadhr and choose not to see it, or honour their alliance with Kazan and send aid
But even if they wanted to send aid, they need to have the time to send aid.
And that is the time they don’t have.
Aeryon planned it that way.
He would not give them time to even hear the news. All the scouts and messengers that Yanlan had sent is either captured or kill by some of Aeryon own spies.
And it is only a day later that all the party nearby got the news.
And it is too late now.
Because before they could even send any aid, Aeryon ah already conquered the Wustkazan amin settlement.
And all Aeryon need to do right now is radiate his influence over the area of Wustkazan.
Those small tribes if they know that Brolgadhr conquered the main settlement of the Wustkazan tribe and even kills their chief leader would have no choice but to surrender.
And Aeryon himself is known to use even the defeated warriors of other tribes in his army so the resistance to surrender would not be as high as surrendering to other tribes.
Surrender is not something that is common in the Great Steppe war.
Because most of the time any tribes would exterminate the other tribes.
While there is some that resulted in the surrender of the other tribes, this could only be done with tribes that have long history or relations with each other
The most obvious example is the Kazan tribe and its offshoot.
But most of the time, the battle between tribes would end up with the defeated tribe being exterminated.
It isn’t until Aeryon began making surrendering to him a norm, that most tribe, especially those small tribes would surrender
After all, they could also see and sense the shifting winds in the Steppe.
It is one thing to be subjugated by a chief that simply wanted your resources and plunder you of your wealth.
It is different when a chief who wanted to unify the Southern Great Steppe ask you to surrender.
Aeryon is Kan.
This is the recognition of his influence and his power. Aeryon grew a small tribe into a large tribe that could compete with half of the Southern Great Steppe
He is worthy of that ancient title
When it is chief against Chief, their level is equal.
Since we are equal to each other, why should we surrender to you?
But Aeryon is a Kan that rules most of the central lower south.
The Great Steppe put an emphasis in bravery but they are also at times very practical.
It is not like Aeryon is an invader from Yan.
He is the son of the Steppe and even if you surrendered, you would not be humiliated.
The chief could become one of the Elders in the Council of Elders and the warriors under the defeated tribe could serve the Kan and shows their talent to the world
So, when Aeryon took the main settlement of Wustkazan, it already make Utgard passive in their action and Garron could no longer send any aid
It is different in nature. If he sent aid before Aeryon took over Wustkazan, it could still be argue to be mediating. Because Utgard is allies with Kazan and Brolgadhr, Garron could act like a middle man between them to
Just like when Chadha mediate the conflict between Nergui and Ultar tribe.
But when Aeryon take the main settlement already, if Utgard send warriors, then Aeryon could accuse of Utgard trying to take his prize.
The matter would be different. There is rules about winners taking their prize from the loser, but no rules about the winner have to be humble
This is not Yan. Humility has its place but in this matter, humility is not necessary. Not being humble does not mean being arrogant
It is about standing up for their rights. Aeryon won, Yanlan lose, the land is taken, it then belongs to Aeryon.
If Utgard wanted to fight Aeryon for his claim, they could do that
But doing that means to break the alliance between the two tribes.
Would Garron ever do such a stupid move? After all, he even married off his daughter to Aeryon
However, with the fall of Wustkazan, this has furthers separate Utgard and Kazan.
Regardless of what had happened and the circumstances in which it happened, Utgard would seem like he allowed the Brolgadhr forces to attack Wustkazan
There would be an even deeper rift between the Utgard tribe and Kazan tribe and this is Aeryon brilliant plan.
Mayeux does not know how many birds had Aeryon shoot with one move.
Now, they have base to plan for the north, threaten the Cha Ner Ul Alliance on the West, and a door toward the east is opened without having to go through the lower east and clash with Esbizuk tribe
Aeryon did this with the minimal amount of soldiers.
Five thousand men to conquer ten thousand men. The West support did not decrease, winning the battle with the least cost.
Mayeux must admit, there would be no other times that Wustkazan would be this vulnerable.
If Kazan did not move his men, if Utgard had not have a falling out with Kazan chief, if the Cha Ner Ul Alliance is not fighting in the west.....there is all of this coincidences piling up that enables Aeryon to simply ride toward the north and take over Wustkazan.
If any of these factors are not there, Aeryon could not have rushed toward the north and take Wustkazan this easily
One wrong move, and Aeryon could be entangled and buried five thousand men in the land of Wustkazan.
But with one right move, Aeryon had taken a step toward the north without sacrificing so much of his men.
Mayeux could not help but think that his Kan has destiny
And Utgard tribe would probably be push into a corner where they have to rely on their alliance with Brolgadhr tribe after this event
Whether Garron intended it or not, Kazan would surely think that Garron sabotage him. It did not matter what is the truth
What matters is what Ayuka, the chief of Kazan think about Garron
But Mayeux would not put it past Garron to have some kind of idea to be released from this predicament.
Mayeux is happy that Aeryon plan works. It also saves a lot of time. Aeryon has always been a bit of a risk taker. Mayeux prefers a stable but guaranteed wins
Fortunately, the bet was right. But Mayeux never like to make bets like this. But Aeryon is the Kan.
And he is also Mayeux liege. Mayeux acknowledge Aeryon talent.
He is not only a great fighter; he also has a vision of how the world should be shaped.
There are things in the details that the Kan is woefully ignorant about but at the same time, some things like the general direction of how history should unfold is something that Mayeux believe Aeryon has a better grasp on than any other leaders in the Steppe.
