Chapter 373: Opportunity That Would Not Come Again II
Aeryon understand what Garron does.
He is showing his strength and also to intimidate the Kazan and gain more advantage the next time they do a cooperative conquest.
And because of that move Garron has more warriors looking at their tribe as a potential winner.
But, it also backfire in the fact that the new chief did not like this at all. The new chief did not say it with words nor did he shows any signs of displeasure or send any remonstration toward Garron but he simply make an alliance with a faraway tribe.
Aeryon also believe that the new chief of Kazan did not acted based on emotions.
He is quite sure whether Garron take or not those lands, the new chief of Kazan would still make an alliance with Esbizuk.
Because, the Kazan needed more allies if they wanted to survive in this new era
The reason why Garron miscalculated so badly is because the previous chief strategy was to attack Rudya tribe and then move toward the Dayan tribe and the Wustkazan tribe. The strategy at that time wanted them to move west
With the death of the old chief, the priorities of the tribe changes.
And since it has changed, Aeryon could now attack Wustkazan tribe without worrying, force Utgard to abandon their old allies and rely on the Brolgadhr tribe and expand the territory and have a forward front to push toward the north in the future.
Three benefit in one action. How crazy Aeryon would be not to take this opportunity that is presented in front of him?
And it is also a win-win situation for Utgard tribe.
They would get the land of the Rudya and acknowledgement from him
But the price that Utgard needs to pay is that the relation between Kazan tribe and the Utgard tribe would drop below the freezing point.
The other disadvantage is that now they have to rely on the Brolgadhr tribe.
Three benefits to him, two harm toward the Utgard tribe. This is why even though Aeryon has already made the plan to the west, he decided to change his thoughts
Utgard had to clarify his stance.
Because Aeryon is confident that if he sent his troop up north, then the chief of Kazan would surely ask Garron to repel him.
Can Garron obey this order?
Aeryon think not
Because if he did this, Aeryon would have a reason, a legitimate reason to end the alliance.
He is forcing Utgard to make a choice. On one hand, he gives benefit. On the other hand, he is forcing Utgard to ditch his only other ally.
Which one would the old viper chooses?
Whatever he chooses, the advantage is on the Brolgadhr tribe.
Mayeux understood now. True, the west should never be neglected. Because this is the most important part of the plan
But this opportunity will not come again.
Mayeux nodded. He paced around the war tent and there is a smile on his face
But then his face turns sour.
Then he shakes his head again. Aeryon understand why. Mayeux is thinking, how to get the best of both world. The north would never be as undefended as it is today.
The more time they take and hesitate, the higher the chance for this window of opportunity to close.
But they could not just abandon the western plan.
Mayeux then look at Aeryon
"You know that the reason why I am so uneasy is because in war.....there is nothing that is certain. Right now, you are confident that the Khagai would win"
Aeryon nodded
But Mayeux sighed
"On paper, there is no way they could lose" Aeryon nodded
"But I have read all kinds of history and all kinds of battle. At times, victory is so close that you could grasp it but one mistake could cost the entire ambition of a ruler to be buried"
Aeryon nodded
He also knows this. Mayeux smiles bitterly
"That is why I make so many countermeasures for the west. Because if Khagai fails, our army could move. I even split some of our forces to stay in the Duhai and Zlata tribe"
"If the matter reach to the point where the Khagai tribe could not hold on, or have their entire military almost wiped out by some kind of ingenious tactic or strategy, they would swoop in"
"At that time, I would not care whether the entire western border tribe wanted to attack us or not. The west....could not be lost. It must be in our hands. Secure the trade from Western Zhou, wins the loyalty of Valgrun, a powerful force that would be at our beck and call. The West must be won!"
Mayeux speak all he wanted to say.
And the meaning is clear to Aeryon
All the forces that is in the tribe right now should not be mobilized to take Wustkazan.
Aeryon nodded
"I know a way to make sure that we could fight at two front at the same time"
"Do you have a strategy?"
"I do"
"I just wanted to ask you to not object this. You understand this don’t you Mayeux? There will never be another such opportunity for us to take the north as easily as this"
There is silence between them. Mayeux also knows this.
Aeryon is just looking at Mayeux.
He is looking at him because he wanted an answer.
And Mayeux close his eyes as he nodded
Seeing this Aeryon smiles and continue
"If Kazan split the Estkazan tribe with the Esbizuk tribe then their power would grow. Utgard would held this ally of them even more tighter and along the road, the Utgard tribe might even stab us in the back"
"Not to mention that if the Kazan tribe wanted to move west next time, they will now have an ally. Knowing the Kazan tribe, if they won, they will now once again on the superior position when compared to Utgard. Then he would surely reconcile the difference and the attitude would be more confident. Then if that is the case, they either could move west, move south, move north, a center position in the chess board"
Mayeux then added
"But they would not move west. Moving west would only benefit the Esbizuk tribe. Instead, they would target the Wustkazan tribe. Uniting the Kazan tribe is the generational dream of every Kazan tribe leader"
Aeryon smiles
He also knows this when he investigated the Kazan tribe.
Mayeux continue saying
"Sordkazan would be a barrier toward the west just like we use the Korun tribe to become our shield from the eastern tribes sop they would not attack Sordkazan tribe. They would surely choose Wustkazan if they won the battle between them and the Estkazan tribe"
Aeryon nodded
"Even if we take the west, it would take more time for us to move North and east. And at that time, who knows how the situation would change"
"Esbizuk tribe and Kazan tribe could be stronger and instead of one tiger in the east, we have two tigers watching over us, waiting for us to make a mistake"
He paused for a second before adding
"I don’t like being stared at. It is usually me that is staring at others and not others are staring at me. Then even we have the west, the situation then would become the Southern Great Steppe divided into two. That is not what I wanted. That is also not what you wanted"
Mayeux makes his point before. And now, it is Aeryon turn to make a point.
His point is simple
An opportunity of the lifetime. To take the advantage, to occupy the center area, the position that gives them the most freedom to move.
"Now.....now is the time, Mayeux. The plan must change with this sudden change in circumstances. This is a one in a lifetime chance where there is no external forces that could check and balance us as we march toward the North!"
Aeryon has said everything that needs to be said.
Some people might think that he is the Kan, why both with convincing Mayeux this much?
If he orders Mayeux, would Mayeux dare disobey?
He would not.
Would Mayeux sulk?
No, he would not.
Because he has pledged his heart and his life to the ambition of the Kan. Because the ambition of the Kan, is also his ambition.
He would not get angry. He would be frustrated , yes, but he would get angry at the Kan. At most, he would keep pleading the Kan to retract his order.
But if Aeryon insisted in attacking the north, even if he did not give any explanation, no one could complain.
This is not like imperial dynasty of Yan where the ruler had to look at the face of the noble families and the officials or be accused of dismissing the advice of wise man.
The Kan is absolute existence.
But why did Aeryon take his time in explaining all of this to Mayeux?
Because Mayeux is not just a simple subordinate to him
A loyal minister, a wise king. This is what best apply to these two men, who shares the same dreams and look at the same view and both wanted to walk the same path until the end.
