Way of Overlord
Chapter 367: The Deeds of Mukhulai

Chapter 367: The Deeds of Mukhulai

There is Yagura. Tabyak Yu and Murong Long.

Yagura is a famous warrior in the East that travels through the entire east and seek Aeryon just to serve under him

But Tabyak and Murong is different. They are not the people of the Great Steppe

Instead, they come from Yan. But they themselves are not Yan people. And the Yan people considers them as barbarians

Tabyak and Murong is from a clan of Xianbei people.

Some of them joined him because they see that he is strong in the Steppe.

Some Xianbei people fled to Yan and some people fight against the Yan people while some goes away and did not meddle with the Yan people.

There is also a few other warriors.

Most of them are famous warriors.

But Aeryon did not yet sees their edge since there is no war between the tribes right now. There is some small tribes that rebels and some small tribes that tries to attack Brolgadhr tribe

And Aeryon did send these warriors to fight against those small tribes and they were easily defeated

but these small tribe is not a place where Aeryon could see the true capabilities of these famous warriors.

Only if they could show their true abilities, Aeryon would really respect them and treated them well.

It is not that Aeryon does not treat them well. His treatment toward talented people is one of the best in the entire Southern Great Steppe.

But to treat them as a trusted warriors like he would trust Belarion and Burchu would require more than just fame

And most of the warriors under Aeryon right now also knows this and they all also wanted to prove to Aeryon

Each one of them is eager to show their talent. There is competitiveness among them which is good for the entire team

The only three people that Aeryon could attest to their abilities as a warrior, soldier and commander are Mukhulai, Burchu and Belarion.

Aeryon first look at Mukhulai and he smiles to himself

"I never thought this person is such a talent" he thought to himself.

Aeryon himself had sent Mayeux to investigate about the past of this person before he truly promote him into a thousand-man leader.

Minghan Mukhulai

He is now leading a thousand men.

That is a powerful position.

Aeryon now have many warriors and many more soldiers.

Most of his soldiers ride horses and there is only a few that did not have horses.

If there is one thing that is not lacking in the Steppe, it is horses, donkey and Tayak

Aeryon learns that before Mukhulai become Brolgadhr tribe member he was a slave of the Suderta tribe.

Aeryon did not even remember there is a tribe called Suderta tribe.

And it turns out he is not a normal slave. Instead, he is the personal slave of the chief of the Suderta tribe.

From what Mayeux tell him, there is some warriors under Belarion that found this tribe near the border of Korun and told them to surrender to Brolgadhr.

They did not agree and their arrogant way of declining them made the warrior group angry

and so, the warrior simply conquer that tribe and bring all of them to the city.

Aeryon actually remember this when he was talking with Mukhulai before but at that time he was just making small talk.

Because he feel that this person is someone who could do his job well, he gave this person a name and even sent him to Khagai tribe to send a message.

It is during this journey that Mukhulai shows his talent.

Mukhulai and his entourage did go to Khagai tribe and they did send a message

There was nothing wrong when they were going to Khagai.

The problem started when they are going home.

They were ambushed by a bandit and almost everyone in the entourage is nearly killed.

Amazingly enough, it was Mukhulai that repels the bandit.

Fighting three people bare handed, he kills three people, snatch the weapon of the bandit, rally the soldiers and then repel the bandits.

If that is not enough, with only ten people, Mukhulai then lead ten men to kills fifty people.

The tactics he uses was to feign weakness, retreat and then attack.

This is easy to say but to do it as flawlessly as he did would be very difficult but Mukhulai managed to do it perfectly.

After killing those bandits, the riches was given to the ten men, and when Mukhulai returns back to the tribe, he gave the family of the member of the entourage a part of that bounty.

Aeryon when he listen to this exciting story had to verify it. When he verify it, he was even more shocked because Mukhulai actually downplayed what he did.

This is a man with a great strategy and many talents.

That is what Aeryon has conclude after listening to those ten men that he leads.

When they were attacked, Mukhulai did not show himself.

And since he is only a messenger, he is probably ignored by the other soldiers while the entourage was being attacked.

But Mukhulai attack begins with the leader of the large bandit group.

Then when there is only ten men around them, a number of men that surely should not be considered to attack a large group of bandit, Mukhulai did the impossible

Mukhulai convinced the ten men that they should fight against the bandit so that they could make a name for themselves instead of returning in shame.

This ability to convince people, is the first thing that Aeryon notice.

Imagine, this is a slave that has just being raised in status. Even though he shows great ability in defeating the bandits, this is just a small deed.

In Aeryon army alone, there is many small commanders that could defeat a few men.

Give them a great armour and a sharp sword and give them some training and they could beta most of the undisciplined Steppe warriors around them

Why was the tribes around Aeryon easily falls and easily conquered?

Is it because they are not strong?

No, they are strong.

But one man fighting a well formation army no matter how strong they are, would easily be conquered.

Even Belarion, this God Incarnate would be push to the edge of life and death if he did not have his army to back him up when he is doing risky attack in the front.

Finding someone that could fight in Aeryon army is as easy as scooping a water from the river.

But what kind of words he said that convince ten men to raid a more superior party?

This shows that Mukhulai is not only a man of the sword but a man of the word. He could convince these people, shows that he has great charisma and great persuading power.

The ten men told him that Mukhulai explains to them how they would attack this bandit group.

At first Mukhulai set a trap for them.

He was calm and composed.

This is the opinion of the ten men.

And Aeryon hearing this thinks that Mukhulai either was pretending or he was truly calm and composed.

If he is truly calm and composed, this is a person that is good in calming himself. Then even in tense situation he could make the right choices.

If he is pretending, then he is a wise commander that knows that when fighting an enemy, you should project confidence.

The more fearful he is, the more uncertain the subordinate become.

This is an art of leadership and could not easily be taught

Whatever the case, this assessment by the people that followed Mukhulai itself is a clue to Mukhulai personality

Mukhulai assessed the situation and scout the terrain before he attacked.

The terrain was rugged with rocky outcrops on either side of a small narrow pass near an elevated hill.

And the bandits itself is spread out in a lose formation. Mukhulai knew that engaging them head-on would be suicide.

Instead, he would turn their arrogance against them.

He ordered his men to retreat up a nearby hill, seemingly fleeing from the fight. But this move must be preceded with another move.

Because the bandits already get most of what they want.

So, Mukhulai had to create something to force these bandits to come out again.

Mukhulai was the first to come to the bandit camp.

Using an arrow he shot two bandits, dead with each shot.

One bandit challenge him with a sword and Mukhulai simply answered with another arrow that pierced that person head

Bandits would fight for loot.

When they finished looting, they would quickly go away and some even disbanded and return to their tribe bringing the bounty of the loot.

When they returned to their tribe and with the protection of the tribe, the matter would not be that simple.

Hence the bandit was actually wanting to split the bounty when Mukhulai break to their camp, create havoc, kill three of their men and fled.

There is another reason why a bandit group would pursue you. Anger.

And Mukhulai has successfully anger that group of bandit. And they pursued Mukhulai without hesitation.
