Way of Overlord -
Chapter 342: The West Divided
Chapter 342: The West Divided
This was what the people called about the words of the Khagai chief tribe.
The common people and simple warriors believe that the cause of Khagai tribe is righteous and western border warriors that is unaffiliated come in drove to pledge themselves to Khagai cause.
Valgrun opens a large banquet tent in the middle of the grassland and he entertains guests of honours for three days and three night, the Ayrag did not stop flowing, hundreds of sheep’s and Tayak was slaughtered, spices from Brolgadhr was seasoned on these meats and they feasted, laugh, drink and all of those guest of honours was captivated by the personal charm of the Khagai tribe chief, in awe of his righteousness and is charmed by his hospitality and all of them pledge their life to him.
But the chiefs and the educated all could see what the Khagai chief is doing.
This is merely creating a justifications. A banner that the other warriors could rally upon.
Some people forget that when Valgrun was in his youth, he tried to capture the eastern tribe.
He wanted to spread his influence to the east.
But Bolghar tribe was the one that forces the Khagai tribe to back down.
Khagai tribe is not a large tribe and at that time Bolghar tribe would not use such words like accusing Khagai tribe failing to protect the border.
Because the interest at that time did not allow Bolghar tribe to use such method.
However, this time it is clearly different.
The Southern Great Steppe has come to an era of contention.
Those people that still think that the western tribe could not expand is still living in the old world.
The Bolghar tribe chief forget that even though he had seen the future where if you don’t fight, you die, the other chief and the other people in the Steppe not all see the things he could see
To them, the world is still the same, the tribe fighting is common, and the Kan is simply a strong overlord that would fade away eaten by time when he died.
Only a few chief could feel the wind blowing.
They could feel the change that Aeryon has brought and clearly could sense the ambition of that young man.
This is not a man content in being an overlord of a small area.
This is a man that wanted to swallow the world
The policy he did, the city he built, the way he reforms many old rules in the tribe, dazzling like the Sun high above the sky.
A man with great ambition like this clearly drive the wind of change. But just because you could see it, does not mean that the others could see it.
They could not understand why Bolghar tribe who has always been keeping their duty would do such a thing.
The Bolghar chief tribe on the other hand sees it differently.
He could see that if he did not do anything, if he did not expand, the only thing he could do it to die.
When Aeryon stretch his hand toward the west again, he would surely take over the entire west.
Not to mention Chagai tribe with his alliance that wanted to separate the west and the east into two separate region. If that succeed, where would they place the Bolghar tribe.
Whether Brolgadhr tribe wins, or the Cha Ner Ul Alliance wins, whoever the winner is, Bolghar tribe could not stay. Because they are the biggest they attract the most winds.
He just never thought that so many people, blame him because he left the western borders. Because these people did not see what he sees.
The west is even messier than the east. Because after Khagai announce that he wanted to attack the Bolghar tribe.
Zlata and Duhai tribe, the vassal tribe of the Brolgadhr tribe raise their army and would support the Khagai tribe.
This shook the entire western area.
This happen just a few days after the Khagai tribe attack the Bolghar tribe. From all direction the Bolghar tribe was besieged
And when Zlata and Duhai tribe move their warriors toward the Bolghar tribe.
Chagai tribe began attacking the Haltur tribe in earnest.
The Gir , Ino and Burka tribe also had sent all their warriors toward the central area to fight against the Chagai tribe.
Some people could see why the two tribes, Zlata and Duhai tribe suddenly announce that they would help the Khagai tribe.
Some heard that before Chagai tribe attack Haltur, the chief sent an envoy toward the Brolgadhr tribe.
Even though the Chagai tribe attack Haltur tribe, in the beginning the battle sis till quite even. With the help of the Gir and Ino tribe, they manage to hold on.
Why did the Chagai tribe did not send all of their soldiers and warriors to quickly overwhelms the Haltur tribe?
It is not that they don’t want to.
It is that they don’t dare.
Even though Chadha always said that he trusted the Kan, why would he stationed a few hundred horsemen around the area of Duhai tribe.
because he knows that Duhai tribe and Brolgadhr tribe relations.
What Chagai tribe fears the most is if they were attacked on the rear.
It is well known Aeryon the chief of Brolgadhr tribe keep his words.
But, Chadha did not dare to bet his tribe fate on the word of that young chief.
Because what he sees when he sees the eye of the Kan is fiery ambition. He did not know whether the ambition could trump his virtue.
So, the Chagai tribe has always keep a few hundred horsemen around the area of Duhai tribe and the area of border that is close to Brolgadhr tribe.
However now that the Zlata and Duhai tribe move toward the Bolghar tribe and is helping the Khagai tribe this is basically Aeryon telling Chadha, "Go and attack Haltur all you want. I am sending those people toward Khagai to attack Bolghar. Do not worry about the border area between you and Duhai tribe and attack Haltur with ease"
This is understanding that did not need to be put into words. And Zlata and Duhai tribe only leaves a considerable force to protect their main settlement.
Why? Because this is clearly an order from Aeryon. Only in this way, Chadha would truly understand the sincerity of the Brolgadhr tribe.
However, is the Brolgadhr tribe not worried that Chadha would break his promise and instead of targeting Haltur, would turn back and attack Zlata and Duhai?
No, Aeryon is probably not worried at all.
Unless Chagai tribe wanted to be involved in a bitter war with Brolgadhr tribe, they would not do such a stupid action.
Because even though the Zlata and Duhai tribe only a considerable defense in their main settlement, Chagai tribe still shares a border with the Brolgadhr tribe in the eastern border.
If they really turns back and attack Zlata and Duhai, Aeryon could use this as a pretext to attack Chagai tribe.
And considering the fact that Khagai tribe had just saved the Burka tribe from their settlement being taken, Aeryon could probably even rally the tribes that is fighting Chagai tribe to finish them off if such situation did happen
This act is highly unprofitable and Chadha does not make unprofitable actions.
As long as they two following along their plan, Chagai tribe would get Haltur, and Aeryon would get what he wanted.
To the eyes of Chadha, as long as he gets Haltur he could slowly get the other three tribes.
Aeryon on the other hand is following Mayeux plan.
As long as he could get Bolghar tribe, Khagai surrender to his power, then they could divide the west.
The West is settled and then the entire Southern Great Steppe could be unified.
With Khagai tribe holding the supreme power in the west, Aeryon could rest easy.
Others are playing checkers, and Aeryon is playing chess.
The west and the east are both in chaos.
What about the north?
The largest tribe on the upper part of the Southern Great Steppe is the Vihur tribe.
Blessed with proximity toward the Empatarah river, there is farmland there.
It is not as big of a farmland as the one in Yan empire but it is enough to feed the tribe.
But the people of the tribe itself is not farmers.
Most of them are still warriors. But they rarely make a move.
This is because the tribe around them are also powerful.
The tribes in the north are powerful precisely because of their proximity toward the Empatarah river. Most of the time, they fought against each other and did not care much about the tribe below them
Because most of the tribes in the south is disorganized and disparate.
They enjoy the benefit of tribute from the small tribes around them and from clans passing by
But they also all have their own ecosystem that did not allow them to unite the Southern Great Steppe.
Many chief leader thought that the Vihur tribe did not pay attention toward Brolgadhr rise. On the contrary, the chief of the Vihur tribe in private does pay attention to it. But in public he appears aloof and indifferent.
There is a reason for this.
There is some things that some chief did not want to do, but have to do. And there is thing that they want to do but could not
Who understand the chains and shackle that power brings?
