Chapter 310: Improvement
Chapter 310: Improvement
The only reason why Mayeux did not have this consciousness yet is because there is no lion yet leading a rebellion.
But Aeryon could understand it because there is rarely a case of successful rebellion.
In the past, the knowledge of the people is closed by the elites and the rulers masters the method of ruling the people with all kinds of methods.
Even in the future, they use a different method to control the populace.
In the future, even though there is no longer slaves in most part of the world, people are still slaves just under a different chain.
The slave are more richer, lives in a better house, eat better food, but still slaves nonetheless.
Slaving their years for a job they did not want to buy things that they were told to want.
And when they are sad and depressed, they use their money to look at clowns and jesters that would entertain them with all kinds of entertainment before they go back to work for their masters.
The masters could cut them down anytime they want and when the people are angry, they blame the people, the rulers and trickle some money to the poor and pats their chest, believing that they have given charity to the people of the world.
They convinced the world of a lie of a better world.
But when you tear down all of the veneers of prosperity you would see there is a gap between the masters and the slave.
One of them high in the ivory towers, looking down at the people of the world, creating wars that they did not have to fight, so that more power would be concentrated on their hands while the common people choose the worst person to fight for their interest.
Aeryon explained this to Mayeux but Mayeux could not really understand it deep in his heart.
Because to him, the common people is easily manipulated and this force would easily crumbles under the power of the ruling elites
Mayeux did mention that the people of Yan and the people of the Steppe is different.
Aeryon countered with only a few words
"People change"
Mayeux did not know when he debated Aeryon, he was debating someone who knows the generals trends for thousands of years forward.
Probably Aeryon emphasizes the people because he knows the end of the Mongol Empire, the very same empire that he is trying to emulate.
Genghis Khan founded the Mongol empire.
And from the moment he rises, he expanded rapidly across Asia and into Europe, creating the largest contiguous land empire in history.
The Mongols were renowned for their highly mobile cavalry, strategic use of psychological warfare, and brutal tactics in warfare.
For now, the Brolgadhr tribe at least check one of the boxes which is highly mobile cavalry. As for psychological warfare, more and more battle in the Steppe is producing great heroes and great strategist.
Only the Yan would like to put down the people of barbarian origins.
It is these people that they looked down upon that would one day trample all of their cities to dust and ashes.
Just like how the Central Plains is ravaged by the "barbarians" in Aeryon original world, the same would happen here.....even if Aeryon is not here
Because the Yan people , no matter how many rhetoric and word of peace coming out from their mouth, what they engage the most is war and slavery.
And no one in the world could stand that. It is the same for Rome and it is the same for any expansionary settled population.
It is only when new method is brought forward, thinking developed and more and more people could use technology that life becomes better....and the cat and mouse game between the ruler and the ruled continue.
Aeryon knows that Mongol empire is not very good at governing its people.
The Mongols often employed terror tactics, including mass slaughter and destruction of cities that resisted their rule.
This caused immense suffering and depopulation in many regions.
And although the Mongols adopted and utilized local administrative systems, their initial focus was primarily on conquest and tribute rather than the welfare of the conquered peoples.
Aeryon obviously have different desire and he had share these desire with Mayeux before
The problem that Aeryon had mention was that , the empire does not have to span the entire world.
Big does not always means better. But small is also not good. Too big and you overextend. There is much border and much more to protect.
Indeed, this is what happens in the Mongol empire of his world.
The vast size of the empire made it difficult to govern effectively, leading to fragmentation into different khanates.
Each region struggled with internal conflicts and administrative challenges. Aeryon said to Mayeux at that time, even if the territory of his rule only is limited to the Great Steppe, he could terrify the whole world with this one region of rule.
The Great Steppe itself is large.
Too small and you would lose the initiative to even negotiate on the negotiation table and could only rely on the use of diplomacy to convince the other large nations not to attack you.
Of course, in the modern world small nations could actually be powerful if they focused on their technology and created thing like the nuclear bomb.
Even a small country could threaten the world if they have nuclear weapons.
But clearly, this is not yet the era where there is nuclear weapons.
This is also not an era where a mages could create a world-shaking magic that would wipe out countries, kingdoms and empires
This is not an era where one warrior could slash his sword and cut down mountains and palaces, killing hundreds of thousands of people with one sword slash.
The age of magic and heroes, wizards and witches ended a few thousand years ago.
Too late for the Age of Magic, too early for the Age of Science.
Hence, Aeryon suggested, that at certain point, they should stop expanding and start developing.
Of course, that moment is still far away. Brolgadhr tribe did not yet conquer the Southern Great Steppe.
Aeryon repeatedly tell Mayeux that if he manages to unify the Steppe in his lifetime, his target next would-be Western Zhou.
Then, and only then he would point his army to Yan. Then after that, there is no need to expand anymore.
At least not to the central government but opined up the world in different ways, relying on technology, innovation and trade. And as for other princes and kings that wanted lands, point them to establish vassal kingdoms outside of the main ruling region of the Marynku empire.
Aeryon might dream big, but it is also a dream that Mayeux share and believe that it could happen.
Mayeux walks the bazaar and thinks about all of these things while admiring the city. And then he shakes his head
" I really hope my strategy would work"
Mayeux most of the time is very confident of his strategy.
But this time the strategy he chooses to employ is very risky.
If it happens just the way it wanted to, then his Kan would be able to settle the west in the fastest time possible.
Then, Aeryon must quickly pacify the Southern Great Steppe.
The next target should be toward the upper part of the Southern Great Steppe. Which means pointing toward the north.
But if Dama pose a greater threat by then, then Mayeux would point toward Dama.
The reason why it should be pointed toward the north is to stabilize the whole western area, dividing the Southern Great Steppe into two and when that happens Aeryon could crush Dama resistance with overwhelming power and might
Then Mayeux shakes his head.
"This is not the time to think about this kind of thing" Mayeux was reprimanded by Aeryon before, saying that he is too dedicated to work and he might worry himself to death
Mayeux then focus back on what he is doing. He is walking along the bazaar looking at the people and looking at the shop and stalls. If he found something that he is fond of , he would buy it without thinking too much about it.
At the same time, he is surprised at the prosperity of this bazaar. After one bazaar he walks to other part of the city to see another bazaar
Cacophony of bargaining voices rose above the general din, as people haggled over prices in a dozen different languages and dialect.
Even though the words of the Marynku is the same, the Southern dialect is different from the western and eastern and even the northern dialect.
The Southern dialect is probably the purest of the Old Marynku and have a lot of loan word from ancient Marynku words.
The Western dialect have some loanwords from the Old Empires language. The Eastern dialect has a bit of Ashran and Eresian accent with some of their words loaned from the words of Ashran and Eresian
"It is amazing" he thought to himself as he smiles.
He never thought that one day, his tribe would one day be such a place of convergence of culture.
This could not be compared to the market of Roma but the fact that just a few months ago that the tribe is very small and at the end of their ropes and now there is all kinds of improvement for the tribe and the tribe is even strong and could vie and contend for the Southern Great Steppe is remarkable
