Way of Overlord
Chapter 192: Pride and Arrogance

Chapter 192: Pride and Arrogance

The battlefield in Nurshira is becoming a place where the Steppe warriors unleashed their full potential.

The fall of the other gates, unbeknownst to the defenders, remained a hidden blow to their morale.

When the news finally rippled through their ranks, it acted as a catalyst, sowing seeds of despair and uncertainty among the Yan soldiers defending the northern gate.

The impact was immediate and palpable.

The realization that their defense had been breached elsewhere shattered the illusion of security, dealing a severe blow to their morale.

A sense of impending doom settled over the defenders, weakening their resolve and prompting a widespread retreat.

For Aeryon warriors, this retreat presented a strategic opportunity.

With the defenders in disarray, their retreat became a window of vulnerability.

The Steppe warriors, fuelled by the chaos and the momentum of battle, seized upon this opening with ferocity.

They pushed forward, capitalizing on the wavering morale and scattering ranks of the retreating Yan soldiers.

The Marynku people perfected the method of false retreat. But, they also knows that the Yan people views retreat differently.

In Yan court, retreat from battle is punishable by death.

To them, retreat is humiliating. As for the Steppe warriors they are quite free in their method and false retreat is their method of choice.

So, the Steppe warriors did not doubt that when the Yan army retreated, they really retreated.

In the wake of the retreat, Aeryon warriors pressed their advantage, striking with ruthless efficiency.

Their objective extended beyond winning the combat; it was to instil fear and terror among the retreating enemy ranks.

Of course, the common warrior could not understand this.

But this is one of the other objectives that Aeryon had put out. It is also the same objective that the other three chief had thought off

Why?

Because even though it is not spoken, all the four chief of the Great Steppe that attack this city understand something

That if they won this battle, it is better to inflict such trauma toward the defenders and the people of Yan

Because if they could successfully raid this city this time, then they could also do it next time

And if they could do it next time, it is better to inflict fear toward the people of the Great Steppe so that they next time they came, it would be easier for them

Aeryon of course thinks a bit differently.

His reason is far reaching and he did not want the entire northern region to be conquered. Because it is not yet the time. But he does want to destabilize the northern region and unlike Dama who probably is already thinking of raiding the northern city and kills everyone Aeryon wanted to terrorize the people so that the next time he came, he would not have to kill to get the benefit.

In other words, Aeryon wanted the city of the north to pay him not to raid, like some kind of protection money.

Of course, this could only happen if the north fears the Great Steppe.

If they think that it is more profitable to pay them than to fight against them and lull them that the Great Steppe tribes could be bought than not only this could but time for Aeryon and the tribes of the Great steppe to strengthen themselves , this also would delay any incursion toward the Great Steppe

So, right now, the warriors of the Steppe strikes with great ferocity

Each strike was calculated to sow panic, to amplify the chaos, and to leave an indelible mark of terror upon the fleeing soldiers.

The battlefield transformed into a scene of relentless pursuit, where the Steppe warriors, emboldened by the retreat, unleashed a ruthless pursuit, inflicting devastation and terror upon the retreating Yan soldiers.

Their objective was clear - to capitalize on the crumbling morale and ensure that the spectre of fear lingered long after the battle’s end.

On the northern gate, Aeryon and Belarion finally stopped their attack. Their advance halted and their eyes narrowed as they look at the large crowd in front of their army

Belarion laughed and Aeryon smiles

In the centre of the city, there is around eight hundred soldiers. And in front of these eight hundred men, is a man, holding a spear.

"This must be their general" Aeryon thought to himself

As for the eight hundred men, behind the general of this disciplined army, they are blocking Aeryon way forward.

All around the area is only people running away and scattering as far away as possible from Aeryon warriors

Ahead stood the formidable barrier - eight hundred soldiers standing shoulder to shoulder, a wall of disciplined defiance obstructing Aeryon path forward.

Their formation, it seems almost like an impenetrable obstacle, a bulwark shielding the general at its forefront.

These eight hundred men is blocking the way

And Aeryon only smiles looking at this

Belarion is about to charge

Aeryon pulls the reins of his horse and he ordered Belarion to stop. Belarion was dissatisfied but he listens to Aeryon order.

Aeryon deliberate stride carried him to the forefront, each step echoing a quiet resolve that reverberated through the charged atmosphere.

His gaze, unwavering and intense, fixated upon the figure wielding the spear, the general of the disciplined army standing resolute amidst his men.

In that charged moment, a profound silence descended upon the battlefield, a lull in the chaos as all eyes converged upon the singular confrontation.

Aeryon stance exuded an eerie calm, a quiet confidence that belied the tempest of emotions roiling beneath the surface.

The distance between Aeryon and the general seemed inconsequential amidst the weight of their mutual gaze, each assessing the other, measuring the breadth of the impending clash in the lines etched upon their faces.

Aeryon expression remained inscrutable, a mask veiling his thoughts, yet within those eyes glimmered a depth of determination and unwavering purpose.

With measured steps, Aeryon closed the gap, a palpable tension threading through the air. His approach was deliberate, deliberate, and unhurried, a deliberate show of confidence that bordered on audacity.

As he stood facing the general, the atmosphere crackled with anticipation, the standoff poised on the precipice of eruption.

This general of the Yan army is tall, with six feet five height.

in an era where the average height stood significantly lower, an individual towering at six feet five would indeed appear as a veritable giant among their peers.

The people of Yan, accustomed to a populace of notably shorter stature, would likely perceive such a towering figure as an imposing presence, almost larger than life itself.

Aeryon, aware of the variations in height across different cultures, understood the impact such physical differences could have on perceptions.

The Roma people, known for their remarkable stature, represented a stark contrast to the norms of many other communities.

Mayeux, a member of the Roma, stood as a testament to their towering presence, his nearly six-foot height dwarfing those around him.

In the eyes of the Yan populace, individuals like Mayeux and the general would indeed appear as giants, their exceptional height defying the conventional standards of their time.

The disparity in physical stature would undoubtedly evoke a sense of awe and perhaps even intimidation,

And from what Mayeux tell him the people of Roma, most of them are around six feet two or more.

To people of Yan, they must look like a giant

The Yan general, a formidable figure, commanded attention not just for his towering height but for the imposing aura he exuded.

His polished spear, a gleaming reflection of sunlight, spoke volumes of his meticulous attention to weaponry.

It remained unsullied by the blood of foes, an indication to his precision and efficiency in combat.

Aeryon has fought many people since the beginning of the battle and he began to notice something

The condition of a weapon sometimes shows the level of mastery of the owner of that weapon

This is not something the system teaches him. This is based on his own observation. He could tell the way a person would attack from the way their weapons is used or not used.

Of course, this method does not always work one hundred percent. After all, there is always variable.

But Aeryon could tell in the brief moment he look at this person, that this person skill with the spear must be at master level

To make sure the spear remains untainted by blood, the precision is not the only thing that he must maintain. The speed must also be very swift.

And swiftness of speed means also agility of the body and to pierce it deep and quickly pull it back also requires strength.

With one glance of the enemy opponent, Aeryon simulate all of this. Aeryon is quite sure, as he is now analyzing this man, this man is also analyzing him.

As for this general appearance, His physical appearance matched the grandeur of his presence.

A long, weathered beard framed a face marked by determination and experience, while scruffy hair spoke of battles weathered and victories earned.

His muscular physique bespoke years of disciplined training and a life forged on the battlefield.

Clad in high-quality armor that glistened under the sun’s rays, he almost look like a shield

The eyes that he shows him shows no fear, and there is confidence in his gaze.

This kind of gaze is the kind of gaze that Belarion always have.

This confidence that they could defeat anything in the world

It is arrogance. It is pride. But all the great warriors needs to have this arrogance and pride.

Because only then could they continue striving forward

This kind of arrogance that look down on the world, the world that only the kind of strong people understood.
