Chapter 164: The Story of the Two Giants

The Stele of Tuighur.

Erected during a time when the Tuighur Empire held sway over vast swathes of the Steppe, it marked both the empire’s territorial extent and its cultural significance.

The Tuighur Empire was a melting pot of Steppe cultures, and its legacy continues to influence the region even today.

The Stele of Tuighur, standing tall and proud even a thousand years later, demarcates the borders between the Southern Great Steppe, Northern Great Steppe, Eastern Great Steppe, and Western Great Steppe.

Long before the Eresian and Ashran races ventured into the vast expanse of the Great Steppe, a rich history unfolded on these ancient lands.

At the heart of this history lies an empire known as Tuighur, a realm populated by the proud and resilient Marynku people, the original inhabitants of the Great Steppe.

The Tuighur Empire, shrouded in the mists of time, was proof to the might and sophistication of the Marynku culture.

Stretching its influence across the Steppe, it left an indelible mark on the region’s history and identity.

In the annals of the Great Steppe, the Tuighur Empire remains a beacon of the achievements of its indigenous people.

Its legacy endures as a reminder of the once-unified and powerful realm that emerged from these endless grasslands.

The ruler who emerged during this era, whose name has faded into the mists of time, accomplished a feat that few could match.

He united the myriad tribes scattered across the Great Steppe, extending his rule from the northern reaches to the southern plains and even the western expanses, forming the mighty Tuighur Empire.

However, on the eastern fringes of the Great Steppe, a land teeming with fierce and indomitable warriors, the dominion of the Tuighur Empire did not extend.

This region remained beyond the empire’s grasp, presenting a formidable challenge to any ruler seeking to extend their authority over the entirety of the Great Steppe.

it was this land that was not unified by the Tuighur Empire

Legends of the Great Steppe recount that during this period, the eastern expanse of the vast grasslands was under the dominion of a giant.

This immense being hailed from the Marynku lineage, and his origin story was nothing short of extraordinary.

Born of humble beginnings, this child came into the world bereft of a mother, as she had perished during childbirth, and his father had fallen in battle defending their tribe.

The nomadic gods, said to have once walked among the tribes, took notice of this orphaned child.

They bestowed their divine blessings upon him, and from that moment onward, he began to grow at an astonishing rate.

By the time he reached his thirties, he stood an incredible twenty feet in height.

This towering giant, whose name has also been lost to history, would go on to become a central figure in the unfolding events of the Great Steppe, particularly during the era of the Tuighur Empire rise and expansion.

As this giant continued to grow in stature and strength, he gradually subdued all opposition across the vast expanse of the Eastern Great Steppe.

He emerged as the undisputed ruler of the region, earning the title of the King of the East, and his legend was inscribed in the annals of the grassland’s history.

Among the tales told of this legendary figure, one spoke of a cave located at the easternmost edge of the Eastern Great Steppe.

This cave, it was said, stood fifteen feet in height, possessing a depth that seemed to delve into the very heart of the earth.

According to the stories passed down through generations, this colossal giant once scaled the towering Yindu Mountains.

With his immense strength, he clutched a peak of the mountain in his mighty grasp and yanked it free from its rocky moorings.

As the peak tumbled, accompanied by a cascade of stones and soil, the giant hewed out a cavern for himself amidst the tumultuous avalanche.

This subterranean abode became part of his larger-than-life legend and the fabric of Eastern Great Steppe lore.

As the Tuighur Empire, under the rule of a powerful and ambitious emperor, sought to complete its unification of the Great Steppe, its attention turned to the untamed Eastern side.

With the might of their vast empire behind them, they dispatched a formidable force of one hundred thousand warriors to subdue the defiant Eastern territories.

However, the outcome of this expedition was nothing short of disastrous.

As the one hundred thousand riders charged toward the Eastern frontier, they were met with a relentless and overwhelming resistance.

One hundred thousand men became one hundred thousand lifeless bodies strewn across the vast Steppe, reinforcing the might of the warriors of the Eastern lands.

News of this stunning defeat reached the ears of the Tuighur Emperor himself.

Consumed by anger and humiliation, he resolved to lead his own forces to the East, to confront the source of his empire’s humiliation.

Upon his arrival in the Eastern Great Steppe, the Emperor beheld the giant who had defied his empire.

The sheer size and imposing presence of this colossal figure struck fear into the heart of the Emperor himself.

In the words of the storytellers, the Tuighur Emperor, now wary of the colossal giant ruling the Eastern Great Steppe, realized that a direct confrontation would likely end in his demise.

Frustrated and seeking a solution, he returned to his realm and summoned his council of wise advisors.

In his court, he posed a question to his trusted council: "Is there anyone among you who possesses the wisdom to devise a plan to subdue the Giant King of the East?"

One of his sagacious advisors stepped forward and began to recount an ancient tale.

This narrative spoke of another giant, born in the frigid northern realms, amidst the icy tundra and snow-covered lands.

The wise advisor continued to narrate the tale of the Giant of the North.

This giant, it was said, had been raised by a mysterious and formidable creature known as the "cold furry being."

But what exactly was this "cold furry being"?

Deep within the mountain ranges of the frigid northern lands, there existed a breed of creatures that resembled enormous apes.

They stood upright on two legs and were adorned with coats of hair, ranging in colour from brown to grey and even white.

Most of these creatures boasted imposing, sharp teeth.

Among them, there was the mighty Yalmo, the largest and most ferocious, standing an impressive fifteen feet tall.

The Hutti, dwelling high up in the mountain peaks, measured around eight feet in height.

And then there was the diminutive Ombo, with reddish-brown fur, typically ranging from three to five feet in stature.

These cold furry beings were the creatures referred to in the advisor’s story.

They played a crucial role in the tale of the Giant of the North

There is many names for this furry creature

Xueren to the Yan people, the Abominable Snow Giants to the people of the Steppe

It was these ape-like beings that nurtured and raised the giant human, who came to be known as the Giant of the North.

the Emperor of the Tuighur Empire decided to send an emissary to the northern lands in the hope of forging an alliance with the Giant of the North.

This alliance is seen as the only way to overcome the formidable Giant King of the East.

The emissary embarked on a treacherous journey through the rugged northern terrain, facing the perils of icy mountains and unforgiving blizzards.

Yet, he persevered and finally this emissary reach the area of the Giant of the North

Upon reaching the northern lands, the emissary encountered the cold furry beings, known for their remarkable intelligence and strength.

He pleaded for their assistance in reaching the Giant of the North, hoping to convince him to join forces with the Tuighur Empire.

Intrigued by the emissary’s mission, the cold furry beings agreed to guide him through the harsh and frigid wilderness.

the Giant of the North is known for his unique character.

Unlike the Giant King of the East, who sought to dominate and subdue, the Giant of the North had little interest in conquest or power.

Instead, he preferred a peaceful and solitary existence, often lounging on the majestic mountain peaks that overlooked the vast expanse of the Great Steppe.

His amiable nature was well-known among the creatures of the cold snowy lands.

While he had a quick temper and could be provoked to anger, he rarely resorted to violence.

Those who trespassed into his territory were only met with hostility if they failed to show respect and offer a gift as a token of goodwill.

The Giant of the North was seen as a guardian of the northern mountains, a benevolent figure who watched over the rugged mountain ranges separating the Roma territories from the northern regions of the Great Steppe.

His indifference to power struggles and territorial disputes set him apart from the ambitions of empires and warlords.

When the Emperor of the Tuighur Empire learned of the existence of the Giant of the North, he saw an opportunity to solve his dilemma.

Determined to subdue this formidable Giant King without shedding more blood, he ordered his most trusted advisors to invite the giant to his court.

giant was lured by the promise of meat and wine and was brought upon to the Emperor.

But if that is the only thing that was promised, then the Giant of the North would not have come down.

To entice the giant’s cooperation, the Emperor made a solemn and far-reaching promise.

He vowed that, for three generations to come, none of the Steppe people would pluck a single tree or harm any creature in the vast mountain ranges of the north.

This pledge would ensure the preservation of the pristine wilderness, safeguarding the area of the Giant of the North and the creatures of the cold snowy lands.

The Emperor’s vow was no ordinary oath; it was a sacred and binding agreement, sealed by the Heavenly Laws, witnessed by the revered Skyfather and Earthmother themselves.

This made the pact unbreakable and upheld it as a divine covenant.

With this solemn agreement in place, the Giant King of the North agreed to descend from his mountainous abode and journeyed to the capital of the Tuighur Empire.

The people marvelled at the sight of this colossal figure as he walked among them
