Chapter 335: Of Simple Complications In A Time of War
[KAWAI]
Kosta wanted to ask the obvious of the young prince.
It wasn’t that hard to assume, but then, this was the time for that. The warriors knew Tamiko was a lethal weapon and a murderer who didn’t hesitate to take out enemy forces, but there were also thighs that they needed to consider.
Even if he didn’t say much, Kosta knew what this would mean for his Erasthai.
He understood what the stakes were and the best part of all this was that the Lycan warriors felt the same way. They didn’t want to pressurize the prince to join them, because they knew the battlefield would turn into a slaughterhouse in the first three seconds.
Besides this was their chance to prove to Tamiko and his father that the warriors of Kawai were strong enough to handle battles alone under the guidance of their Lycan chief, or that they were unworthy and that the royals would hate to step up and finish the job.
It sounded shameful as fuck, but considerations had to be made. Lives had to be fixed and if that meant having to deal with the madness that was lingering around in the name of redemption retribution.
Then they had to punch it all in.
"I’ll come back with a win for you, my prince. The free lands will be yours when the sun goes down and we won’t stop until we take it all back. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, because we will all return.
"And if some of us never come home again, I hope you know we served you to our best and with our lives. And that we will meet in another lifetime," Igor said proudly and Tamiko stiffened. This felt a lot like goodbye and it was scary for him.
But he had to have faith.
He had to tell the truth that his Erasthai would come back to him, because this time, Kosta wasn’t going into the battlefield as an omega scared of war, no. He was going back there as Igor Konstantin, the barbarian of the realm.
"I shall wait for your announcement, Chief Konstantin," Tamiko said, wiping a tear from his eyes.
He hated this.
He hated every bit of what was happening.
He was very aware that this was something he had commanded himself, but he hadn’t expected that his Kosta would be the one on the battlelines first. Floki had already led the initial army and now it was Igor’s turn to leave with the barbarians.
It was his Erasthai’s turn to say his warring goodbyes and boy did Tamiko feel sick to his stomach.
He didn’t know how much longer he would wait for Kosta to come back home.
He didn’t know if he had the patience to go back to the palace and wait for the news of their winnings or even of their return. And he felt like his lifeline was leaving him once again. This was hellish and fuck if Tamiko didn’t run along with Kosta to the battlefield.
"Aye, your majesty," the barbarians responded before Akila walked with them to the free lands.
Kosta was left once again with Tamiko and he could see the tears forming in the young prince’s eyes. He could see the fear and the loneliness that lingers and yet even then he could see the pride and trust that Tamiko had in him.
That was honestly comforting and Koata wouldn’t pretend like it wasn’t making him have butterflies. Granted, this wasn’t the time for all that but then he was just a man in love. A man who would win wars and come back home early.
Because this time, someone was waiting.
Someone would be staring out the window to see if his silhouette made it past the jarring shadows of doom. It couldn’t be so bad, right?
"I’ll come back, krushka. You know that, right?" Kosta whispered as he leaned into Tamiko, their foreheads pressing against each other. The silence that lingered was heavy with emotions for both Lycans but then this had to be done.
"Doesn’t make it any easier. If you get hurt, I will come for you. I don’t care if I have to fight father to let me come to you," Tamiko said and Kosta chuckled softly. He knew that the prince was only speaking truths, in a time that held so many lies.
"Ruining the kingdom for one man is not a good idea, krushka," Kosta teased.
"Good thing you are not just a man, Kosta."
"I know, moya, I know."
"Go, or I won’t let you leave if you stay here any longer," Tamiko whimpered defeatedly.
"Be well, my soul. I’ll see you soon," Kosta said, pulling his Erasthai one last hug before he went to the free lands, leaving behind a prince who was tempted to wage war alongside the love of his life.
He had yearned for it one too many times and while it was obvious that time would grant them both that simple wish that the skies were right and in their favor. Today was not just easy for them either.
Love and life lingered and the prince let himself lean into the absence that he had let himself will into like this was all that he could afford. But was it always that hard?
"You look like shit, brother," Danny’s voice interrupted Tamiko’s yearning for his Lycan chief, snapping the man out of his trance and self-pity. It was almost like the new lord always knew what to do whenever the young prince was alone and defeated.
And on some days, it was an act that Tamiko wanted to turn his head against, though right now, he couldn’t.
He needed his best friend beside him;
Because with the portals closed, the walk back to the place would be the loneliest of all and Tamiko wasn’t ready to make that journey on his own. He didn’t want to have to do that alone without someone by his side because at the end of the day., they were all on the same page.
"And you look worse than me," Tamiko laughed humorlessly, his eyes empty as he focused on the emptiness that had remained with Kosta’s Absence. It was something that still haunted him. And Danny could see right through Tamiko’s lonely wishes.
"You do realize he is not going to die, right? You can’t be looking this depressed over a man who is just a few miles away — unless you want to get out there and mutilate everyone, instead of sending them back to their factions?" Danny said, knowing so well that the idea had definitely crossed Tamiko’s mind a few times.
It wasn’t a hard one, but it wasn’t a simple one either because Tamiko had to decide. To either be rational or to burn everything to the ground, knowing well that the entire Kawai army would have his back regardless of what heinous things he did out there.
"Doesn’t exactly sound like the best thing I ever did," Tamiko trailed off and Danny smacked the back of his head, making the young Lycan wince and glare at his loyal friend.
"You are a spawn of the devil for that," Tamiko whined.
"As long as you are that devil, I don’t mind," Danny said and Tamiko grimaced.
"Let’s get out of here... we have the whole Kawai to ourselves. We could at least explore even better sides, right?"
