[TAMIKO]

The evening stroll with the king had done a lot of good to Tamiko. He looked very happy when he walked back into the palace, smiling at his subjects like he had grown a new head.

His happiness was somewhat contagious because even the two Lycan lords were smiling at him. He loved how the day had gone by and eventually, with the sundown and dinner fast approaching, he wanted to be with his Erasthai.

"Where’s Kosta?" Tamiko asked as he looked at his uncle and Danny who were staring at him like they had just figured out the very first thing about the prince of doom. They were happy for him; and glad that his relationship with his father had changed.

It was always a beautiful sight because breakfast was never as tense as it had been before. Honestly, it felt like they were all a part of a big happy family determined to do whatever it took to make ends meet. And it was admirable from every point of view.

"He went out with the barbarians a while ago... he should be back before dinner," Lord Sadako said and Tamiko just nodded. He knew better than to be worried about Igor when the barbarian could handle himself.

He had proven it time and again, but he couldn’t help but worry to an extent. He didn’t want his Erasthai out there fighting on his own, but at the same time, he didn’t want to make Kosta feel like he never truly had a choice in their relationship.

Freedom was key for omegas and as hard as it was for Tamiko to lean into it after ever that had happened, he had to try for the sake of his Erasthai. He had to trust Kosta because without trust, then all of this was useless and even he knew it.

Perhaps it was also why Tamiko just smiled at his uncle and best friend and walked away chirpily toward his chambers.

"What did you feed him?" Sadako asked King Zaffuto who was still watching his son rush up the stairs like this was the best day of his life. He could still feel the weight of this son’s thoughts, but he had to be patient.

After all, he didn’t want his son running away from him or turning his back on him. The king was on the long road to patience but damn if he didn’t quite like it to a point.

Then again, he had to wait and see where this would all go, because he knew more than anyone else, that pushing Tamiko away was never going to end well for anyone.

His son had been forced to mature because of the hardships he endured in Grealor. He had gone through the worst of the worst and the king didn’t want to relive that shit. He didn’t want to think about Grealor when his son was here and happy like this.

"I’m just as confused as you are, brother. But as long as he is happy everything is going to be alright," Zaffuto said as he patted his brother lightly on the shoulder.

"How’s the training coming along, Daniel? Is your sensei giving you a hard time?" Zaffuto asked Danny who was watching them in silence.

They all knew that there was always going to be more to the situation regardless of where they were and Kawai was certainly not the best place to be playing hide and seek right now.

Anyone with a brain cell could already see that. And with the warriors always training, it was a tad motivating and horrifying for young Daniel.

"He’s alright... a little old for my liking, but at least he got the right bones," Danny said and Sadako glared at him lightly.

"These kids these days don’t understand how much it hurts to train these days. I should train you harder, eh?" Sadako said and Danny laughed at his sensei.

It was a happy moment for the three of them even as they made their way to the palace balcony that faced the kingdom. They looked happier than they had all ever been and frankly, that was what the kingdom needed at this point.

While the trio was at the balcony making small talk about the kingdom, Tamiko had portaled to the palace kitchens, something that got the chefs staring curiously.

The young prince was never to come to this side of the palace and even if he ever did, he was always there for water before leaving again. However, today was different.

"Your Highness... how can we be of service?" Kiyoi, the palace head cook said as Tamiko stood by the door, careful not to bring any attention to him.

Well, he was the Lycan prince, he was always, always going to have some attention because the moment they saw him, they stilled.

"Please... continue. Don’t let me interrupt you," Tamiko said as he walked in.

He didn’t have any hints of mischief on his face and Kiyoi wondered if this was the day when shit went to hell with him. He didn’t know what the fuck the prince was doing here, and he couldn’t question him.

"Uhm... Kiyoi..." Tamiko began.

The head chef stiffened.

There were a lot of things that could go wrong at that moment and I hoped to the goddess that this wasn’t the day he went home without a head. Whatever it was that the prince wanted with him, he hoped that this wouldn’t be a cruel fate.

"Sire," Kiyoi responded, trembling.

"Could you please prepare a special meal for me? Of course, other than the dishes for tonight’s dinner. I want some barbecue steak and some..." Tamiko said, trailing off as he went on to talk about the meal he wanted to have at dinner that day.

It was a pretty comprehensive list. And Tamiko was worried that Kiyoi could say no to him.

Of course, he wouldn’t say no directly, because he was scared of Tamiko, but Tamiko had learned enough in Grealor to read people and he hoped that he wasn’t the object of anyone’s fear in this kitchen.

"I know that’s a lot, but please," Tamiko pleaded and the staff stared at him curiously.

He was one strange prince.

"You will have it, your highness. Don’t worry. I assume it is for someone special seeing as you didn’t use the mind links or conjure it all with your magic, yeah?" Kiyoi asked.

Tamiko turned beet red, making the chef smile at him.

"Kinda. I haven’t been the best of people out there and just want tonight to be special for him. I have a lot to make up for. Hopefully, if this goes well, I might be forgiven for being an asshole for the past few months," Tamiko said sincerely, his words making the staff stare at him with pride.

Maybe it was because, for the first time, they were hearing the Lycan prince be kind, or the way he had come in all polite and genuine. But what mattered was that they had their orders and they would follow them to the latter.

"Go on. Be ready for your date tonight. We will be at our best," Kiyoi said.

"Thank you so much, Kiyoi," Tamiko said, as he hugged the chef before racing out of the kitchens, only to bump into Kosta.

"Krushka? You alright? You look red?" Kosta pointed out.
