Chapter 287: Perhaps New Enemies Were Old Friends [3]
[ZULA]
"He went back to the palace, that coward," Zula said to the Furfantes who had been with her for the longest time.
Ever since the king had stopped murdering years ago, there had been a group of Lycans and wolves who had come together to make a decision about the king.
They had seen the king get worse by the day and the only chance they had to make him pay for all the damages that he had done to them was to go after what he loved the most.
It was easy.
Or maybe that was what it was supposed to be at the end of the day.
King Zaffuto was a careful king when it came to Liana and yet when Zula had told the man of his Erasthai’s pregnancy the man’s brain had gone blank for a few seconds and Zula had seen it. It was the one way to make things right for them.
"Are we really going after Liana? You know that the people of the realm love Liana, Zula. The woman has been nothing but kind, she has brought a sense of normalcy into Kawai.
"Taking her out will mean reducing the kingdom into a mess we probably might never come out of. Surely you know that by now, right?" Sanjiro, one of the Lycans that Zula had onboarded pointed out the obvious.
They knew what the stakes were and as high as it all was, there was no denying that this was the only way to bring the king to his knees. Liana was a weakness for the man, whether he liked it or not.
They had studied the king and the woman and frankly, other than the fact that the man was sickeningly in love with her, there was no refuting that was their way out of the mess that Zaffuto had put them into over the years.
"Think, Sanjiro. If we take Liana out, and that too inside Kawai, the people will hate the king. They will blame him for not being good enough to protect the woman who had brought them love.
"In fact, I have a few men who are ready to start spreading the rumors that the king murdered his wife so she couldn’t stop him from going to war. We have seen people do worse to their mates and this is not as defining anyway.
"Point is, they will turn against the king then we will dismantle Kawai and eliminate the rule that the Hinatas have had for so long," Sirius, another Lycan Furfante said.
Sanjiro stared at the man like this was the most dangerous mission they were heading into.
Of course, it is dangerous.
Of course, it was something that would have them either dead or alive. What mattered was that they did what they had to do before shit went south for them. They had people on their side and they had those who were willing to lay their lives down.
It was not that hard a thing for the people of Kawai to pick up, and with the realm already starting to worry about Zaffuto, eliminating the one thing that kept him together was the best way around the chaos.
So, what was the point of acting like they didn’t want to see their son on his knees? It wasn’t like the man had considered their lives when he murdered their kids right?
"Well then. But you do realize that if we use Lycans to attack the queen, he will burn down Kawai and eliminate all the Lycans. If we did that, there would not be a Lycan kingdom even after the downfall of the Hinatas.
"Zaffuto will fall, and he will take us all down with him," Leo a Lycan said.
Zula stared at the only werewolf in the room.
He was a trusted friend and they had pulled some of the craziest stunts over the years. He was probably the perfect man for the job that needed so many people to understand that war was never going to always be simple.
They had to figure out what the fuck was needed and they had to do it fast before shit went to hell with them.
"The wolves? Are you sure you want to leave this to us?" Alpha Grealor asked as he looked at his Lycan friends. This group Furfantes had saved his people from rebels over the years.
They had all worked together for so long, but this was a Lycan kingdom they were going after. And that too, a Lycan king; a mad one. They had to think and do their work in the best of ways, otherwise, they would be screwed.
"It is the only way, Ashton. Besides, Grealor is the strongest pack in the realm. You have the people to do the job and make it out of there. Even if the kilns that it was the wolves who did it, he can’t go after the entity werewolf race.
"That would be madness. He wouldn’t have time to deal with the people rejecting him and the people who would want him gone. He wouldn’t even have the time to think that wolves would be the ones.
"The king still has enemies in the Lycan kingdom even to this day, so he is intelligent enough to assume that only a Lycan could have all the access in the kingdom and now here the ins and outs of the Kawai place are.
"That is now this is going to be done," Sanjiro said and Zula smirked at the man. She knew that she could trust his wicked mind because Sanjiro had already stated paragon himself in the palace as the idiot who didn’t have anything better to do.
He was always everywhere and always acted like a retarded bastard, making himself a non-lethal threat to the kingdom. Or so they would see.
Besides, she had been like that for the past three hundred years and no one would ever think of accusing the restarted Lycan of playing the long game. He didn’t seem to have the capacity, right?
Funny how here and now, in this group of the Furfantes, Sanjiro was their leader and Chief strategist.
"We can’t do it in the place. The place is highly protected, all foreign factions will be forced to stay away for two weeks before we would be allowed near the queen. And all that time, they will be with Lord Sadako and Chief Konstantin.
"I know we want to pull some crazy shit, but Lord Sadako isn’t even the threat. The greatest threat other than the king is that barbarian Lycan Chief, Igor Konstantin. That man could kill and eliminate without even the king having to know that there ever was a threat to them.
"He is the most lethal warrior in the realm and anyone who loves their lives wouldn’t want to be on the man’s wrong side," Leo pointed out as if to remind them that this was not just a game anymore.
This was a gamble of lives, this was a chance for them to pull off the craziest of coups or their chance to be turned into mince meat by the cruelest barbarian to ever live. He was that bad and Konstantin scared even Zula herself.
"The queen never leaves as regularly anyway, and she is always in the company of the barbarian," Sirius added and they just stared at each other. This was not going to be as easy as they had thought.
They had to think of a place where they could get the queen and use her for their benefit. It was a daring thing they were trying to do, but who the fuck was supposed to tell them that this was wrong when they didn’t even have the slightest bit of morality left in them?
"Do men go to the birthing halls in Kawai?" Zula asked after a long silence.
They stared at her like she had gone crazy.
Surely the woman wasn’t thinking of the worst kind of fate, right? It wasn’t okay, and even if they were morally grey, surely, they had the right mind to know that that would be the worst of things for them, right?
"Zula... No," Alpha Grealor said and they looked at him.
"This is not the time to get emotional, Grealor. Just because your son lost his mother at birth doesn’t mean that he is good to lie to. Keep your mind on the goal.
"If Zaffuto is eliminated, you will get your share in the free lands and control the trade between the other factions and Kawai. You will have a higher stake too. Think of that before you start getting emotional," Sanjiro said and Alpha Grealor sighed.
They were right.
He had watched his wife die on the delivery table and honestly, it was the worst thing that he could ever think of. He was still haunted by it, even though his son was slowly growing.
It was not easy, what they were about to do. But then what the fuck was there?
"Fine. I have a suggestion. You said that Liana is pregnant. How about we wait till she gives birth, and then we can take her child and kill her there leaving the king torn?
"Zaffuto will eventually know that his heir is a son, and he will start looking forward to that kid. Instead of killing both mother and child. Just kill the mother, I volunteer to take the child with me and let him grow up in Grealor.
"That way we will have the time to groom the kid against his father if this coup doesn’t work out well for us. Consider it a contingency plan," Alpha Ashton offered and they all seemed to think about it for a minute.
