Chapter 231: In A Dream That Can’t Come True
[KAWAI]
The denial was obvious on Danny’s face.
He didn’t understand why this was happening to Tamiko again. It had happened before... and the last time, the young Lycan had done things that Danny had to take the blame for just so everyone would not cause a fuss.
It had been a hectic week for Tamiko to the point that even Gabe and his friend, who had taken pleasure in bullying Tamiko, had taken a break from it all. It was like they had suddenly gotten a revelation about after that was so serious and that would impact the entirety of Grealor.
Honesty, that should have been a sign, but right now, as Danny looked at Tamiko, he couldn’t help but feel angry. He didn’t understand why his best friend always had to suffer.
He could see the struggle for control, and the way that denial was desperate to rule over his friend. This was not something that they could sit and laugh about because it wasn’t helpful in any way.
Tamiko was not okay. It was obvious and they had to understand that before they did anything. Then again, it wasn’t that hard to tell, given the way that the king had stood there in shock for so long.
This situation was so complex that even the mad king had no clue what to do.
It was not okay either, because this was not what they had hoped for. What was hope though? Hadn’t they suffered enough times in the name of hope that they couldn’t even understand the source in the first place?
"You are hurting. Let yourself feel that, Tamiko. Crash out if you must, just please, don’t shut it off," Danny begged and Tamiko stared at him in confusion, like he didn’t understand what the fuck was going on.
Of course, he could remember the pain he had been feeling when he was desperate for Kosta. He could remember it all, but he just didn’t care about it anymore. He didn’t care about the scars he had inflicted on himself when he was fighting with the wolves.
He didn’t care about the pain that had driven him nuts to this point. He didn’t want to think about it, because if he did think about it for longer, then he would be forced back into that state.
And that was the one place Tamiko didn’t want to go back to.
It had been a hellish six days and there wasn’t anything that anyone could say to make Tamiko hold onto his sanity for some reason. He had been in pain, the worst than what he had ever felt in all his time in Grealor.
This was a different kind and Tamiko was done crying. He was done trying to understand where things had started going wrong. He was done holding onto hope that this would be alright. Oh, he was so done with everything that screamed at him.
"Well then. Looks like I’ll have to command one servant, huh? And here I was hoping for you to be the one to prepare a meal, since we haven’t eaten together in a while," Tamiko sighed with a spout, dismissing Danny’s concerns.
He knew that they were valid.
He knew that everything that Danny was doing was for him, but the events weren’t convincing enough.
Tamiko was sick of the pain that came with his mate and just for a moment, he wished to forget all that he had been thrust into. It wasn’t that hard a call for him, because he had truly struggled to fight for what he believed in.
The love of his life hated him and that was something that even his father would never be able to fix for him. It was stressful, but it was life for them.
"Brother—" Danny tried but Tamiko just smiled at him sadly.
"It’s okay... I understand," he said and with that he disappeared into the palace kitchens, not caring that all eyes were on him. His heart was not hurting anymore and he was certain he could make do with whatever the fuck the universe sent his way.
Maybe that was why he wasn’t bothered even as he listened to his father, uncle, and best friend talk about him. He had been hurt long enough and he deserved a break. They couldn’t take this from him and he wouldn’t let them... not this time.
***
That evening was a quiet one as Tamiko went about his business.
It was almost like nothing happened, which was strange because a lot had happened. The worst had taken place and there wasn’t a thing that could be said about the hurt he knew he was supposed to embrace.
He wasn’t ready to cry again anymore.
He wasn’t ready to deal with the heavy emotions anymore, and he was going to make sure that he lived his life as freely.
Instead of staying at the palace where his Erasthai was, or even where the people he loved were, Tamiko had chosen to spend the night outside Akila’s door. It was the only place he could think of that was far enough from the place and close enough to the reminder that his Kosta was alive.
He knew that Akila definitely wouldn’t want to see him after all the torturing that he had endured, but Tamiko didn’t know what else to do. His father was suffocating him. His uncle’s soft stares were draining him.
His best friend’s defeated face of realization was haunting him.
Perhaps if Akila showed him hate and spite for the day’s occurrences, he would be able to get a grip, he couldn’t just stay with the people who cared for him, because honestly, it was difficult for him.
It wasn’t fair and he wasn’t ready to deal with that either. Maybe that was the only thing that could keep him sane, after he had sacrificed so much for so little right?
"Your Royal Highness..." Akila’s voice interrupted Tamiko’s line of thoughts, and Tamiko knew that it was time to put on the greatest show.
He was ready to talk shit to the man so they could fight, or rather, so Akila could beat him the fuck up as retribution for what he had done. However, when he looked at the man and his stares, it was almost like he was looking into the mirror.
This wasn’t what he had come for and it was driving him crazy.
"Came to pick up where I left. I heard you knew who took my Erasthai and you didn’t say a word. That makes you a traitor; you know that, right?" Tamiko asked, ignoring the silent plea in Akila’s eyes for him not to start a fight.
But then that was what Tamiko was looking for.
He may have switched off his humanity, but he needed to still piss people off. It was almost as if there was some deep desire that he couldn’t even begin to understand and boy was it unhinged. Then again, wasn’t that what life had been for them lately?
"You switched it off, didn’t you?" Akila asked and Tamiko stared at him free finally.
"Come on... you won’t get a fight from me, but you need to rest. You look like shit... don’t worry, I won’t tell a soul you’re here," Akila said reassuringly.
