Chapter 227: Waving Troubles Goodbye... Right?

[THE FREE LANDS]

"Have you ever traveled through a portal before, Daniel?" King Zaffuto asked as he looked at his son’s best friend.

He had seen the horrors on the kid’s face and why it had excited him just a little, he had had to remind himself that the kid wasn’t the enemy with him. He was just a boy who cared for his Tamiko and one that his son loved very dearly.

It was the one thing that made the mad king’s heart soften. Maybe he was really changing his antics as the king, but then maybe that was just what life is supposed to be like for him and Danl right?

"I don’t understand," Danny said as he looked at the king who was nonchalantly staring at him, and then at Kosta who was breathing evenly. His omega scent had been unmasked, but the king made certain that Danny would be affected.

He had seen the way the kid had strived to get his son’s happiness black and he didn’t want Tamiko to get all possessive and try to think that Daniel was the one who had taken his Erasthai for him.

Of course, there was the rational part of Tamiko that was certain that Danny wouldn’t betray him, but then it had been a hectic past five days and nothing would make sense to Tamiko for quite some time.

He was allowed a moment or two to crash out because, at the end of the day, life had to go on either way. Maybe that was why life was like this, but would it ever explain the way that shit had happened?

"My portal is unlike any other, and it might suffocate you for a few seconds through the journey. If you are unstable with that, we can walk back home. Whatever you want, young Daniel, we will do it," King Zaffuto said.

Danny looked at the man, his heart breaking for him as he looked at their surroundings.

They had fought through so much, and done things they would probably be judged for the longest time, and yet in the middle of all that, the king had managed to stay kind, even though there was blood on him.

He looked like a murderer and it would have been terrifying for young Daniel if he hadn’t been certain that the man wouldn’t hurt him.

It was a wild thought, how he had gone from being another regular Beta wolf to being someone that the Lycan devil king trusted and cared for.

It was weird, but this was something that Danny knew he had to cherish; because one misstep from him and he would be the next body on the long endless list of people that King Zaffuto had managed to kill.

He was insane, but he cared, and perhaps in that moment that was what mattered to them, right?

"I can endure a few seconds, sire. Let’s do it," Danny said .

Zaffuto stared at him as if to see if there was something else that the young wolf was not telling him. He wanted to be sure that this was okay with Daniel but then again, he couldn’t distrust him just like that.

Perhaps this way they would have to be for each other, right?

"Alright then," King Zaffuto said as he created a royal. It was whirring with harsh waves and Danny could see why the king had insisted that this was the portal that would make him uncomfortable.

Then again, it was just for a few seconds, right? It wasn’t like the man hated him and wanted to thrust him into limbo, right? Surely that was something they had to talk about, no? But even with that in mind, Danny wasn’t sure he wanted to go through more.

"Want to stop? We can do that," Zaffuto said and Danny sat at the man like he had gone bonkers. Who the fuck was this a man and what had he done to the ma that the realm hated?

The mad king wasn’t supposed to be kind and nice but the man carrying Igor was almost suspicious.

"Are you sure you won’t sacrifice me in there?" Danny asked lightly as he wrapped a blanket over Igor and the king carried the man with his magic.

"Want to find out?" the king laughed and Danny sighed.

"Well, if I die in there, tell Tamiko I love him more than life. Tell him I hope he is hap—" Danny rambled only for the king to drag him and Igor through the portal as Danny screamed his lungs out.

The portal travel didn’t take long, but it was one thing that got the entire Kawai starting in amusement.

One moment they were quietly trying to figure out what the fuck had happened to their Lycan Chief and the next, a grown man was screaming his lungs out like the world was suddenly filled with the worst of the worst.

Daniel’s screams didn’t stop; even as the Lycans who were outside the place came together to see the king staring at the young wolf patiently like he was waiting for him to be done screaming.

It took a moment for Danny to get a hold of himself and when he did... he wanted to disappear and never come out until the end of his life.

"You should have stopped me," Danny said to the king. He just laughed at him.

"And miss seeing you make a fool of yourself? Oh, please, by all means, continue," King Zaffuto said in a light tone as he carried Igor to the palace. He could see that his people were curious about what happened, but he just didn’t have the time to deal with that.

If they had questions, they could ask them a lawyer, but now, it was about his son... his little boy who was seeking out the love of his life.

The king had noticed that Tamiko hadn’t stepped out even when Danny was screaming like a girl. He had stayed hidden, thinking of where next he was supposed to be looking for his Erasthai.

He needed his Kosta, and the king knew that.

"Where’s the prince?" King Zaffuto asked when he walked into the palace with Igor in his arms. He hoped that he wasn’t late and that his son hadn’t gone into depression because that would just break his heart.

He wanted his son to be happy and while that seemed like an impossibility right now, it was something that Zaffuto had to hope for. He had seen his son suffer at the hands of fate and he couldn’t take it if this was what he had to deal with again.

It was unfair and he would try to fight for his little Tamiko. Perhaps in another universe, there would be better days, but until that time, Zaffuto would move the world for his son.

"In Chief Konstantin’s chambers, Your Majesty," one of the palace servants said and Zaffuto sighed. This wasn’t going to be easy and he could tell with them that people were looking at carrying the Lycan chief.

No one had ever seen Igor be down like that. They had never seen the man hurting or submitting to the pain that he felt out there in the war. The Lycan chief they had known was someone who was strong and never gave up.

He was always fighting battles and winning, he was always on the first line of Kawai’s defense, and he had been part of the reason why Kawai was feared like that.

Igor had moved mountains for Kawai and they had all seen it one too many times. Perhaps it was time for them to appreciate that this time too, right? But then Igor had given up.

He had submitted to nature, which was something had tried to fight and had lost.

His true nature wasn’t something to be ashamed of and the king was staring at the Lycans in his pathway, his eyes sharp as if reminding everyone not to even think of spouting shit against the Lycan Chief just because he was an omega.

It was a silent declaration, but the message got clear. No one had ever seen King Zaffuto care that much about any Lycan other than Sadako and Liana, so this was new to them.

At the same time, they couldn’t help but be glad that perhaps the master was finally one with his humanity. The man without a soul had finally started showing signs of empathy, but was that the truth really?

The king had always had a balance between his good and bad and he had always chosen to be cruel over being kind. Maybe it was the reason for the gentle stares he was receiving from the palace Lycans.

It was a surprising moment, but the king wasn’t interested in that and he wouldn’t be for quite some time. Perhaps this was his chance at a better life, right?

"Alright," the king responded, his words surprising the Lycans, he was even polite about it, which was weird because they all could have sworn that Zaffuto Hinata was the most ill-mannered Lycan of all time, but then here he was.

Perhaps life had a way of making things work for everyone, right? But wouldn’t it be worth it this time? Oh, but that wasn’t even what Zaffuto was thinking of now. The only thing he cared about was to see his son and see his smile.

He knew that Tamiko had locked himself in the Lycan Chief’s room and that was why he didn’t want to show up, but that was alright. Perhaps if his father called out to him, he would answer and show up, right?

Maybe that would be the first step to making sure life isn’t as hard for the young prince, no? Well, that was a lot of maybes, even for the king. But then when he settled the Lycan chief on his son’s bed and called out to Kaito... he hadn’t expected a response.
