Chapter 212: How To Touch The Clouds, A Zaffuto Recipe [2]
[KAWAI]
"You have your son. And his new Lycan Lord. There is nothing you and I have for each other at the moment, Zaffuto," Alpha Ashton stated casually like he wasn’t worried about what was coming for him.
He could see the smirk on the king’s face and honestly, it creeped the hell out of him. It didn’t make him feel at ease at all and nothing would ever make him want to embrace that side of the lives he had struggled to live.
Nothing would be the same for him and regardless of what was coming, he had or had known that too. Perhaps he was shopping so many things would make the King busy and he wouldn’t remember the aspects of what he was seeing, right?
But even then, what else was there for the King and the werewolf alpha this time?
"It isn’t a request, Ashton. You either answer it or you lose your precious son. By now you already know that the immense pain he has been feeling isn’t just because of the broken bond.
"I had to put an incentive, just in case," King Zaffuto said as he looked at Gabe who looked uncomfortable. He had thought that the pain was because of the bond that had been broken by Tamiko, but then, clearly, the King was up to something.
He was always up to something, and he was finally face to face with the bullies of his precision son. This time, while they wouldn’t be killed, the king was a determined man and he would get what he wanted, no matter how many things he had to do.
He was a patient man.
Oh, but Zaffuto was patient.
He would get what he wanted either way, no matter how long it took and how hard he had to deal with the chaos that was before him.
"What is it then?" Ashton asked even though he didn’t see where the tides would take him. What he was trying was dangerous and that too with his son’s life on the line. However, Ashtn was blinded by greed and rage, he still couldn’t believe that years and years after, Zaffuto Hinata was still winning.
The man couldn’t have it all and he had tried to make sure of that. Ashton had done the most hideous of things to the King and his son, and yet he had managed to end up being the loser there.
None of his plans had worked save for the one that had shocked the entire realm.
Queen Liana was someone that even the wolves had mourned. Her death had shaken the realm in so many ways and the wolves had even united to help fix the mess that had been varied, but none of them had any idea of where to start.
They were careful with what they did, they didn’t care that they were risking a lot because just by the degree of the missing price, they were all going to pay that price. And yet even then, Ashton hadn’t done shit to make things right.
He hadn’t even sent out troops like the other wolves. Instead, he had insisted that Grealor had better things to do rather than stay and watch the kingdom that had terrorized many of them come to a standstill.
His reluctance had been the trigger that the other packs needed to stop the search. It had been suspicious then, but right now, it just didn’t matter what Ashton did. He would pay the price to do what he had done, come rain or sunshine. He wouldn’t be left out.
"What were you doing in Kawai when I found you? Why are you really here? No one knew I’d make the decision about young Daniel today, so what were you doing in my lands without any authorization?" King Zaffuto asked a little too calmly.
It was like he had forgiven the man to make things easier for him. Of course, Zaffuto knew the answer would be coming from Ashton’s lips as soon as he spoke, but he wanted to see how honest the man could get.
It was a test of faith, and perhaps it was also the time that he was wondering what the hell the man would decide now that he was caught red-handed. Perhaps he would find a way to engage the chat or he would try to fight back.
Whatever it was he would do, Zaffuto Hinata wasn’t going to forgive. Nothing would make the man change his mind about the chase that had long ensued. Nothing.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about," Alpha Ashton said and the King snickered. This wasn’t the time for this, but then Ashton didn’t seem to mind so many things were happening around them.
The fact that the Kawai Lycans were all doors instead of outside like they usually were should have been the first sign of abnormality on Kawai.
But even that didn’t seem to worry Ashton because, to him, this was just another aspect of his boring life he just wanted to get shit over and done with. He didn’t want to think too much about it, but there was only one problem.
The man before him, and the man who would screw him over one too many times, it wasn’t that hard to tell that Zaffuto was bound to enjoy the chaos he was causing the man.
But what else was there for him to do at the moment other than wait to see if they would come clean about what he was doing in Kawai or face the consequences and watch his dear son lose his life for the second time?
"Are we playing that game now, Ashton? It could get dangerous for you, and your son’s life is on the line. Is that a risk you want to take with me?" King Zaffuto asked.
He had expected this either way but the fact that Ashton was so defiant about what he had done and what he was doing in Kawai made Lord Sadako wonder what the fuck the King was getting at.
This wasn’t the time for them to be playing games, but it did seem like the Alpha wasn’t that made about losing his only son and the young Alpha who couldn’t keep his generations going.
It was crazy what they had been bound into and it was sad, to say the least.
Then again, life was never black and white and they would definitely learn that along the way, no?
"Wasn’t it you who brought me here, your majesty? You could check the records at the borders. I came because of the beta wolf who you wanted to kill," Ashton insisted and Zaffuto stated at Gabe.
He could see the disbelief on the young wolf’s face and he could tell this had happened before. The way that the son was looking at his father was different, almost as if to ask his father if this was the game they were playing again.
It was a dangerous game. It was something that could screw them over in so little time, but then it wasn’t like Ashton cared enough about that. He had his reasons and he wasn’t about to let go.
Maybe that made him a bad father; but he had tried his best to be on the same page as his son, no? He couldn’t be that cruel a father to his only son, right? Oh, but Ashton was crazy.
He had to be, there was no other valid explanation for the way he was doing his son right now. This was peak selfishness and no one would make it better for the young Alpha.
"Are you serious right now, feather?" Gabe asked, clearly discontent with the game that his father was aiming at again. This wasn’t the time because he was hurting and his mind was reeling from the aftereffect of the worst pain had ever felt.
Even then, Tamiko had broken his heart a year ago, Gabe, and felt this hurt. It was like he couldn’t think straight anymore and Tamiko watched in silence and the father betrayed the son once again.
"What do you want me to say? I wanted to kill the beta and since we didn’t need the man anymore, and I came to witness that historic action?" Ashton said confidently.
Zaffuto watched Gabriel slowly turn blue. He could see the raw hate that Gabe had for his father’s actions and for a moment, Zaffuto wondered if his son would ever look at him like that.
It was the kind of look that he swore to never trigger for his son but with how little disappointment had triggered Gabriel, the King couldn’t help but wonder if his Tamiko would look at him like that too.
So defeatedly, he turned to his son, his little angel, and the boy he would give up everything for.
Tamiko could see his father watching him, but there was something different in his eyes. There was a curiosity that was there.
He wanted to ask about it, but then it wasn’t as hard, because one look at what his father had been seeing before was all Tamiko needed to know that his father was thinking the same.
"You haven’t given me a reason for that yet, papa," Tamiko voiced and everyone turned to look at him, wondering what he was talking about. But the king’s eyes shifted as he nodded at his son.
He then gently got up from his seat on the throne and walked over to where Gabe was standing. He could see the young wolf’s heart break, so he ended the man’s pain.
"Go. I’ll see you again, young Gabriel. Go prepare well for war, because we are coming for you and we won’t stop until we get what we want," King Zaffuto said before creating a portal and pushing the crippled father and his son through, an act that shocked Tamiko.
But before Tamiko could say anything, his father disappeared.
