Chapter 187: Forever Doomed To Be The Backup
Chapter 187: Forever Doomed To Be The Backup
The news of what had happened to Tamiko and Kosta spread like wildfire to Grealor and the realm. It was almost like they had all been waiting for misfortune to strike the powerful couple so that they would have something to say about the outcast of Grealor. It had been expected that they would mock the young man and even call him names for daring to love and managing to lose awfully. But then that hadn’t been the case. In fact, the reactions were similar to those of the Kawai Lycans.
The shock waves that had spread across the realm were insane. The people of all the factions were preparing their armies already, assembling their shit and making sure that they would be ready for war any time.
They all could tell that vengeance was coming with a wave that they would never be able to fight against.
"He is never going to be yours, Gabriel," Alpha Ashton said gently to his son like this was the only thing he could think of at the moment.
The fates had already worked through magic and they all knew that no one would ever be back to lay a claim on either Tamiko or Kosta. That was something that the realm had to deal with very fast because otherwise, they would be dealing with the worst of the vermin of hell.
Oh, but the way that King Zaffuto had reacted had not been lost to them, or even the fact that Igor Konstantin had always been an omega. That was not as important as what Tamiko had done and proved.
"He is a prince... and his mate is an omega, how fitting. No wonder he was obsessed with turning me into an omega and one of his sired bitches," Gabe said in disgust.
The weight of the evening didn’t last to him, but he couldn’t help but feel a different kind of rage. For a moment, he wondered whether things would have been the same if their mate bond had not been based on pain and suffering for the very beginning.
Gabe wondered if Tamiko would have loved him wholly without thinking of running into Grealor or the horrors that they all had done to him. It was a wish that had long decayed and Gabe was still struggling to understand where the hell Kosta had been an omega.
The barbarian that the realm knew was the most insane Lycan Chief in all of history. He was more cruel, unlovable, unlikeable, emotionless, and robotic Lycan than many had ever seen. Kosta always killed first and asked questions later because he never had time.
So many people had faced the worst side of the Lycan Chief and bounty hunters and so many people and been forced into submission by him. What Kosta had done to the realm was almost a match to what the mad King had done.
The only difference was that the mad King was Zaffuto Hinata and Kosta was just a Lycan Chief with duties.
"And he is going to come for us," Alpha Ashton said and Gabe sighed knowingly. However, his father’s next words got him asking himself whether his father was insane or if there was truly something fundamentally wrong with the man.
"If we kidnap his omega first, he won’t have an option but to make a deal with us, and then we will be able to save Grealor from his hands and have our beta back," Alpha Ashton said with pride and Gabe wondered if his father was high on shit.
There was just no way a sober man would be yapping like that. Maybe his father was finally losing his mind, no? Because what the fuck was this even?
"His omega? The man literally sliced through fifty council members and the guards on duty this evening and you still think that you can survive if we take his omega? Are you even listening to yourself, father?" Gabriel asked as he glared at his father.
He had never thought that there would come a day when he would be looking at his father with so much disdain and surprise. This was not the man he had grown up knowing. His father wasn’t as reckless, or was it the lack of legs that had forced him to start thinking like an idiot then?
What the hell was going on and why did his father sound so confident despite the fact that he couldn’t even get up to serve his own food at the dinner table? Hel, the man was wheelchair-bound and was salaried talking about abducting the royal omega of Kawai.
Oh, this was insane.
"Of course. This is the right time to strike. The entire realm didn’t know that Igor Konstantin, the smug barbarian could end up being a fucking omega of all the things out there. He was so powerful and for what?
"If we want to bring that outcast down, then an abduction is it. If you don’t want to, then don’t be a part of the plan. Just know that there are more people willing to do that for the sake of Grealor. Besides, we are not going for vengeance.
"We are doing this to protect Grealor. If Tamiko agrees to let us be, we will return his omega back to him. Otherwise, we will keep fighting and he will lose. I will make sure of it," Alpha Ashton said enthusiastically.
Gabriel felt his stomach churn in disgust.
His father was insane. He was the worst for the worst and for a moment, Gabe wondered if he had taken the worst qualities of his father. It was not okay, all of this, and boy was it frustrating as hell.
What the hell was he supposed to do then? What part of life had he and his father found themselves in? This was one that would screw them over without even asking so many questions.
"I’m not going to be sitting here listening to you. You do whatever you want," Gabe said as he walked out. He didn’t know what else to make of his father’s sudden decision.
For a cripple, the Alpha Ashton had so much confidence and that got Gabriel wondering if his father had truly been the one to kidnap Tamiko twenty-five years ago.
He couldn’t help but try to understand what the benefits had been for their pack now that they had the price. It wasn’t about security because the Lycans had come for Tamiko at the first indication that he was one of theirs.
So, this just was not making any actual sense.
"Someday you will understand," Alpha Ashton said as his son disappeared outside. In his mind, he had done what he needed to do to assure Grealor of its safety, but now that Tamiko had something to actually lose, they would use that to control him.
It was not a good idea and anyone who was at night could have told Alpha Ashton of the same, but the man wasn’t listening to his people. If anything, he was just in his own world, determined to bring down the Lycan kingdom.
But then with the vengeance that the father and son lived in, what the hell was Ashton going to do to have the balance right there? Was he going to pretend to be the nice guy again, or was he going to try and work out the impossible?
"We need to meet," Sanjiro said to Alpha Ashton in the mind link they shared.
