Chapter 180: Be My Help... Be My Savior [2]
[KAWAI]
"Guards! Drag them both outside to the podium. The Lycan council must do justice to the Hanzos who had lost their lives because of this little rogue. And make sure to bring the wolf along.
"He needs to know that there is always a price to pay for daring to mess with the crown and what it means to the people of Kawai, or even the subject of the crown at the moment," Minister Inara said harshly.
Tamiko let out a defeated laugh, not even sparing a look at his father. This was the cruelest thing that he had ever thrown possible.
This day was a complete disaster... right?
"You’ll be okay, you’ll be fine," Tamiko swore as he looked at his erasthai who was being dragged along with him out there. He knew that he was a baby the last time they would be seeing each other but he refused to believe it.
He wasn’t about to be threatened into submission because if he had to make that choice again, he would do it without a second thought he wouldn’t stop and he wouldn’t wait for anyone or anything, he would protect his erasthai even if it was the last thing he would do.
"You too, krushka. You’ll be okay," Kosta said with a smile even though his smile this time found his eyes.
Kosta had been around the council members for years and he knew that they would never just let them go. They would have to take out one of them for the sake of everyone who is mourning the Hanzos.
The king wouldn’t lose his son again, which meant that Kosta was the next expendable person, it is a gamble so cruel and a reality that broke his heart, but it is one nonetheless.
At least he would be going down for the erasthai who made him happier. The kind of torture that was waiting for him was legendary and he knew that too well because he was one of the people who had worked in the torture chambers before he had left to focus on bounty hunting.
Chief Konstantin had invented the harsh treatment of incels and right now he was sure that was what they would use to him. He was okay with it, but he wanted to stay with Tamiko.
He felt alive when he wore a smile on his face, knowing so well that he would try to provoke the council members and challenge them to the point that they would have no other option other than to take him out and leave Tamiko.
Besides, the young Lycan didn’t know shit about the rules of Kawai, so that was going to be Kosta’s defense for Tamiko.
"Oh, look at them, so in love even at the last moment. For people who looked so confident that the king would save them, you sure are hopeless because the old man is coming along and hasn’t said a word.
"And the best part of it is that he will be the one to approve the sentence; he hasn’t said anything yet and he has followed us out there. You both are doomed," Minister Inara taunted and Kosta just sighed, he knew this was the truth.
The judgments that were brought outside for the people to decide were the cruelest of them all. They were hit kinds that not even the king himself would ever forgive.
King Zaffuto had been known to hate so many things and incels were always brought to him, so he always approved every decision made without a care in the realm. It was because it was also the only way that he was certain that his people would follow the rules.
They would heed whatever warning they wouldn’t to face the king because he would be the cruelest with them even worse than the ministers.
Right now, there wasn’t anyone who could save Kosta, not even Tamiko himself, and Kosta believed that he had lived a long life. If his sacrifice would mean that Tamiko would be happy, then he would make it without a second thought.
"Ring the assembly bells!! The king has a decision to approve!" The ministers shouted and the Lycans who had been rioting stared at the minister in surprise, shock, and happiness.
They knew that the king would never let them down, especially with what’s been happening. They knew that while the king was insane, he was always known to give justice when it mattered.
And right now, it was imperative that the Hanzos got their justice. They would finally have a resting place. Of course, the Lycan knew that the king had been the one to kill the senior Hanzo, but they were not questioning that.
They wanted justice for the first event that had triggered the chaos.
Oh, how Kawai was morally grey. They wouldn’t dare to question the king, but they could request the king to make the judgment, even if he was one of the people who had done the worst.
It was just how life was there for them and they had long wanted to make do with the chaos they had been thrust into. Perhaps there would come a time when life would be worth it in the end, right?
"Ring the bells!!!" The rioting Lycans echoed.
Soon enough, the Kawai bells were ringing at full speed and at the loudest sound. They were so horrifying to someone who had not been used to them and in that moment, as brave as he had been, Tamiko felt scared of what would happen to his Kosta.
He was scared for himself too because he had never heard the bells ring that loud.
All the times that the bells had rung in Grealor, had meant that someone was taking the mantle of torturing Tamiko, making his life hard, and in a moment, everything seemed to change for Tamiko.
And just like that, his bravado was gone, even as the Lycans came forward in huge numbers at the assembly ground. They were excited to come and watch the rogue Lycan.
This for them was a moment of happiness, to see the king deliver his first stroke of justice after so long and boy were they the happiest for the madness to keep going. It was a terrifying truth, a moment that scared so many.
The eyes that were focused on Tamiko held fear and relief at the same time; relief for the kid who had never heard the bells ring and relief at the knowledge that this wasn’t for them.
It was an insane way to make peace with the kingdom, but boy was it the kind of terror that many would do whatever it took just to keep away from. It was crazy and unhinged and it was what the Lycans had been waiting for.
Soon enough, the podium filled up, with the Lycans chanting in excitement, shouting things that were slowly getting lost to Tamiko. His mind was filled with the echoes of the bells, and the sounds that Gabriel Grealor and his friend had been making for the outcast.
"Dusha... don’t worry," Kosta reassured, his voice steady as he looked at his erasthai and then at the Lycan king, Zaffuto Hinata, who was seated in his position, his silence golden as he watched amusedly.
