Chapter 165: Care To Dance, My Little Angel?
[KAWAI]
"Together?" King Zaffuto asked softly. He had not been expecting to hear this from his son but now that he had, it was almost like a new birth of life and courage had been sent towards him.
His life was not as complicated as he had imagined and he was feeling it right that instant. Maybe it was the comfort that came with being the father of a son who was way much like him than he would ever be able to understand with ease.
"Yeah. Together. I may not have known Mama, but you did and you deserve to grieve her instead of worrying always," Tamiko said as he looked at his father, he wasn’t certain that this was the best of ideas.
Tamiko could already see the way that his father was contemplating changing his mind about all of this, but he needed his father to take the first step. He needed the king to embrace the hell that they both are so they could do this, together.
It was the only way out either way.
"Okay," King Zaffuto said, not wanting to argue with his son.
He was already spent from the shouting match earlier and he didn’t want a repeat of that. Frankly, that was his lowest moment as Tamiko’s father and he wished to apologize for it.
Perhaps that was meant to ease his conscience, but even he knew that there was only so much he could afford to give to his son like that. So, with one look at his dear son, King Zaffuto grabbed the handle of the white door, and turned it.
It was the first time in so long and he was scared of what he would find there because of how he had dealt with all of his grief.
Maybe that made him a different man but maybe that was a kind reminder that despite all that had been happening, he was still a person with actual feelings. Oh, but it was crazy at some point.
"Holy shit," Tamko whispered as he and his father walked into the room that had remained untouched for the longest time.
He wanted to say something, anything, and express what he was fleeing, but at the moment, holy shit pretty much described it all. This was absurd and insane and Tamiko was right in the middle of it.
"Welcome home, son," King Zaffuto said and Tamiko fought back the urge to roll his eyes at his father. He knew that the king was trying to lighten the mood, but then the way that he was looking at him, made Tamiko’s heart flutter.
"This looks so beautiful," Tamiko finally voiced and the king stared at his son in earnest gentleness.
He wasn’t sure he had expected this, but hearing from his own that the room that had been his with his mates was a beauty, made him want to lean back onto the memories of the past.
"My Lili was the most beautiful woman in my eyes. She was everything perfect and cursed the wolves that hurt her like that. She was love and life for so many and he gave us all hope, she gave us a reason to hope, truly," King Zaffuto said as they looked to the room.
The bed that his queen had last lay in was still as white as ever, with the gentle strains of a past that Zaffuto had refused to forget. When the servants had come and asked him whether they needed to clear out the room back then, the king had insisted that he would do it himself.
He had been so heartbroken and lonely that I never once did what he was expected to do back then. So, he had cast a preservatory spell in here too, to keep it the same for as long as Zaffuto lived and for as long as he was doing that to change a thing in there.
The memories of his beautiful wife were fresh in his mind as he took in the familiar sight of the life they had once had beyond these walls. He could still remember her hearty smile, her beautiful self standing on the balcony.
She had been the best thing he had known as he hated what had happened back then.
"She really was a goddess," Tamiko said as he looked at the drawings of his parents on the large walls. They looked like they had lived for each other and like they had only ever wanted to reign with each other.
His parents looked so damn happy it was heartbreaking to think that this is the storyline that never saw the light of the day when he had come around. His mother was so damn pretty that Tamiko’s heart ached for his father.
He knew his father was strong, but as a mate, he could tell that he was still hurting and Tamiko couldn’t fault him for that.
He knew so damn well that he would lose his mind if he ever lost Kosta, the man in his world that he adored and cherished more than he had ever thought possible for any creation.
"And she loved you so much. We both loved you so much," King Zaffuto reminded for the hundredth time. He was determined to make sure that his son didn’t feel like a burden to anyone. The kid was his and hells be damned if Zaffuto let anyone fuck it up.
"Anyway, I brought you here just to remind you that no matter what comes out war, no matter how I have to deal with and who I have to fight, no matter how many times there is a hall headed for us or even a happiness;
"... I want to buy or remember that you are loved, son. That you are allowed to be a kid and that no one will question you if you so choose to live your life like every kid your age. So much time was stolen from you, and your childhood was intentionally messed up.
"We both know that I might not be able to fix that childhood for you to even make it better, but I can promise to give you the life you deserve. A life as my dearest son, the apple of my eye, little angel.
"A life for the only one that matters the most in my life and a life as the best thing that ever happened to me, not to mention, a life as the fruit of mine and Lili’s love. And I’m sorry about earlier;
"I shouldn’t have reassured you, but please know that whatever I do, I do it for you. Killing Hanzo was the only option, my little angel. It was the only way to send a message to everyone, to let them know that no one was to hurt you.
"And if I had to do it again, I would in a heartbeat," King Zaffuto said proudly. Anyone who could have been listening to them could easily think that the king was obsessed with the boy, but he was a father and he had a son he had missed so much.
He would do his very best to make up for all that time and there wouldn’t be a soul that would stop him. That much he knew.
"Thank you... for sharing your vulnerable moment with me," Tamiko said by the time they were done going over the memories of the room with a white door. And that was also how Tamiko started understanding his father’s decisions.
"See you at breakfast?" the king asked.
"I’ll be there, always."
