Chapter 109: Shall We… Little Hinata?
Chapter 109: Shall We... Little Hinata?
[KAWAI]
"My world crashed on that day... I’m not strong enough to hold back my rage and I don’t want to ruin the mating period for anyone," the Lycan king said honestly as he looked everywhere but at his son.
"What if I come to the ceremony with you?" Tamiko asked his worried father. He understood King Zaffuto. He knew how hard it had to be for the man, not knowing where his son was.
He knew that it wasn’t going to be easy, but Tamiko hoped that he would give the king some reprieve. Sure, he wanted to tell the king that he already knew he was the prince. A shoulder to lean on was all he had for his father and the son hoped that he would take it.
"I can’t do that to you, little Hinata," the king said to his son, staring earnestly at the best reminder of his beautiful Liana. He loved his son way too much. He wanted to pull him close and tell the kid that he was the father, but the king couldn’t.
King Zaffuto wasn’t sure how Tamiko would take that news, and honestly, that freaked him out more than the fact that his son had his temper, and his rage, not to mention the understanding nature of his Liana.
This kid was the product of his union in every way and he couldn’t fuck up before him. He just couldn’t.
"Why now... you’re overthinking y’know. Think of how much mischief we caused over the past three days. Everyone is bound to be on the lookout for the both of us. Besides, with me you don’t have to pretend to be cruel.
"With me, you can be yourself. The kind king that cares for his people. I don’t know much about ruling or even the good side of things about you, but I know you love Kawai and wish for the best for them.
"If you won’t do it for yourself, then do it for the pride of the Kawai Lycans. Most of the people who will be coming to the ceremony will come to see for themselves whether the Lycan king is out of his room or if it was just something to lure them out.
"Today you can either make your Lycans a pathetic joke in their own land, or you can get up and be their king, the man they trust to protect them. Granted they haven’t interacted with you for twenty-five years and they are skeptical;
"But the past few days have proven that beyond that mask you wear daily, is the man they trust with their life and the man they know will defend them. Your people need you. Your best friend needs you to come out of the shell and be yourself.
"I’m sure not many will mind that you will be brooding out there. Just as long as you are there for them. Save you people the embarrassment and make a statement today. Otherwise, your people will be taken as jokes and that won’t be good.
"Also, do it for you. The last time they saw you was at the pier, what if you let them see you without blood on you? What if you let them see you like they knew you?" Tamiko said to his father who was keenly listening.
The Lycan king wasn’t even sure what was going on. The only thing that mattered to him was his son and from the look of things, his son wanted him out there. He wanted him to be the king that the realm knows and that was heartwarming.
"You thought a lot about this, huh?" the king voiced when his son was done. He was a proud father and while he wasn’t going to admit to his son yet, he was happy that his son was alive beside him.
"I’ve been around you for the past few days and I’ve seen you hesitate even when you weren’t at fault. You’re walking on eggshells, like you’re worried you might snap. So let me come with you.
"I don’t care what title you give me; besides, we can just tell them that you and I are friends in another life, hmm?" Tamiko said and the king sighed. His son was winning against him and he loved it. This was what he had hoped for.
"Alright. But I have a condition," the king said and Tamiko stared at him curiously.
"What is it?"
"The moment you feel uncomfortable, you let me know and we can leave, alright? If anyone dares to hurt you, call my name. If anyone gives you the stink eyes, you have my permission to fuck them up, I’ll come to your defense at any time.
"If someone talks shit to you, slap their mouths and tell them to come see me if they have a problem with you. And lastly, if I see a scratch that wasn’t there on your body, I will burn them all," the Lycan king said and Tamiko stared at him in silence.
He wasn’t sure what this was, but he knew the king was doing what fathers did for their kids.
For a moment there, Tamiko was envious of the Lycan prince for having such a loving father, forgetting that he was the prince. Many may have known the king to be a monster but the man was a caring father.
Tamiko wished that his father knew the truth about the both of them. He wished the king was saying that to him directly. Oh, how he felt jealous that his father didn’t know who he truly was.
"Those are five conditions," Tamiko blurted out, not sure what he needed to say to all that. He wanted to hope for anything, something that would let the king know that he was here with him, but he couldn’t.
Tamiko had long imagined what the consequences of the Lycan prince showing up were and honestly, it was easy if he did say that to his father. He couldn’t have the man fighting everyone for him, not when he hadn’t lived enough outside of the room he had been in for twenty-five years.
Tamiko wanted to see his father happy, it was his only wish and if that was possible today, he would be the happiest son.
"In one breath," the king shrugged nonchalantly as he ruffled Tamiko’s hair gently. He loved his son. He wanted everything good for his son and if anyone tried to mess with his son, the king would keep his promise. He would be the monster they wanted so badly.
And he wouldn’t regret it.
"Fine... come along, they’re waiting for us. Uncle probably thinks we’re out causing trouble again,’’ Tamiko said and the king let out a light laugh, one that Tamiko was keen enough to hold on to.
Even if he left Kawai soon, he would at least have his father’s laugh to keep him sane.
"Well, I am the king. Everyone else can wait," King Zaffuto said and Tamiko chuckled. His father was something else, but he wouldn’t complain because he was a proud son. He was proud of his father for getting up to go and face the realm like that.
He would always be there for the king as long as he could anyway.
"You—" Tamiko began and his father laughed again, before straightening up, and putting on the deadly face everyone knew of.
"Shall we, my little Hinata?" the king said and Tamiko felt his heart flutter.
