Chapter 108: Never Alone... Not This Time

[KAWAI]

The Lycan kingdom was buzzing with people from all factions. The gates of the once forbidden kingdom had opened for the first time in twenty-five years and it was something that got everyone curious.

There was a chance that all of this was planned to take out the entire functions, but then maybe, just maybe this was for them all to remember what Kawai used to be before the Lycan king lost everything and went back to his default settings.

What they had gone through as a kingdom was the kind of horror that not even time would be able to cleanse because no matter what they did, the tragedy would forever remain on the lips of the immortals.

Theirs would be a history that would never be forgotten... Maybe in three thousand years’ time which wasn’t even a long time, seeing as most of the factions were immortal. It was a dangerous gamble and yet the gates had still opened.

"Greetings, welcome to Kawai," Lord Sadako greeted at the entrance ceremony.

The Lycan king wasn’t there nor was his son. Instead, it was just the Lycan chief and the Lycan high guards who were seated up there with the Lycan Lord. If it helped, Kosta didn’t look worried about his erasthai, or even the king.

But the general population didn’t know that.

To them this was a delicate day, one they had to waddle through very carefully and make sure that all heads remained on the necks where they currently were. Because otherwise, Kawai would once again be turned into a bloodbath and no one would say shit about it.

This evening wasn’t a damnation day.

It was just another evening in Kawai... The once-normal Kawai, right? The Kawai that once upon a time had the queen of hearts making sure that no one was hurt by the king and making sure that people didn’t fear the king as much, right?

Oh, it was a really long gamble this time.

"It has been twenty-seven years since the last mating ceremony we hosted and I understand the curiosity. The rules remain the same. No one will be harmed in the three days of the mating.

"However, do not do something that could get your head off of your neck. Remember, just as it is easy for us to choose peace, heads will roll if you fuck up. I don’t have much to say, and can only wish you all the very best as you look for your mates and erasthais.

"May the goddess protect you all. And one more thing. The Kawai palace is out of bounds. If you are found there not even the moon goddess will save your soul. Have fun," Lord Sadako said as he went back to take a seat next to Kosta who was watching with a blank face.

All the key officials had blank faces as they had been trained for all occasions. It came to them naturally at this point, but then who was to tell that the Lycan lord and the chief were worried about the children they had to take care of?

"Where do you think they went?" Sadako asked, his face still blank. You would think he was talking about official matters and not the disappearance of the two children he had adopted barely days ago.

"Probably in the Kawai woods running around. Let’s just hope they didn’t run into Gabriel Grealor, because that would be a little hard to explain," Chief Konstantin said and Sadako let out a sigh.

The Gabriel Grealor situation was one that he had tried to figure out how to ease his brother into, but even to this day, Sadako wasn’t sure how to explain to Zaffuto without the king burning down the pack.

Sure, the last time he had agreed not to ruin the day for Tamiko, but then with all that had been happening, it was a little hard to explain how the king would react to it all when he knew the extent of the damage that Grealor had done to his only son.

It would be a long battle and that wasn’t something that Sadako wanted to expose the father and son to this early.

"Even if they do, I doubt Gabriel would want to wander around Kawai on his own after what I did to his warrior. He has to be careful not to lose another. Let’s just sit and wait for the troublemakers to come back," Sadako said as he sank into his seat.

He wasn’t about to go looking for them because there was a chance they could hike his blood pressure with whatever trouble they had gotten each other into. But had they really gotten themselves into mischief again?

Was that really what they were doing at the moment though?

"I don’t think I can go to the formal opening," the king had said to his son an hour before the ceremony began.

They had been in the king’s chambers, which the king had gotten comfortable in showing Tamiko. It was something that got the Lycans raising their eyes since no one had ever gotten into the king’s room save for Lord Sadako.

Hell, they had seen the king walk with Tamiko to the queen’s wing more times than they could count, when even to this day, the king had warned everyone against going to that side of the palace.

It didn’t matter that there would be celebrations today.

The queen’s wing had been left untouched as it had been years ago. And yet the king had walked in that direction with the boy he had known for just a few days. Well, none of them was brave enough to admit it out anyway, so they let it be.

"Why? Are you not ready to see your people?" Tamiko asked in his earnest and soft voice, making the king stare at his son. He had expected the mischievous kid who he had been running around the whole day.

However, as he looked into his son’s eyes, he could have sworn he saw a part of Liana too. Their son was a combination of him and his Liana and that made him love Tamiko even more, despite the fact that he wasn’t able to show him at the moment.

He would ease himself into his son’s life and eventually, he would get there too, right?

"Not really. If I step out there it will bring back a lot of memories. The last time I was out there before the entire Kawai, I was announcing the murders of the innocent pregnant women and my heir.

"My world crashed on that day and I don’t think I can go up there and smile and wave like some robot when there is a chance that some of those people who have come here are the ones who took my son from me.

"I’m not strong enough to hold back my rage and I don’t want to ruin the mating period for anyone," the Lycan king said honestly as he looked everywhere but at his son.

He couldn’t let himself let his son see him as a monster, not on the same day that was supposed to be the beginning of a beautiful season for the realm. He wanted to fight his reality, but then what else could he do when he was the dark king they had known?

"What if I come to the ceremony with you?"
