Chapter 106: No Time For Take Backs Yeah?
[GREALOR]
The Grealor wolves were still mourning their dead when a letter arrived in the evening, one that was addressed to the reigning alpha of Grealor, Gabriel.
The poor man had been stuck in a cycle of mourning since the morning and honestly, he wasn’t sure he could do this anymore. Just this morning, one of his best friends had been murdered again by the Lycan enforcer.
Gabe wasn’t sure how long he would take this but three dead wolves in less than twenty-four hours was just not for him. He was losing his mind bit by bit and if he wasn’t careful, he would have a lot to lose than anyone else in the pack.
"Alpha, a letter from Kawai," Zula said as the wolves had all left the pack house to go bury their dead. The mood was still somber in Grealor even as Gabe refused to get out of his office.
Gabriel knew they didn’t have that much time on their hands but he had to mourn his best friends. Surely they couldn’t deny him the chance, right?
"Put it on the table and leave," Gabe said and Zula did as was demanded.
She understood the boy and knew that this wasn’t going to be easy for him. The fact that Alpha Ashton was forced to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair was something cruel and worse than old age.
The alpha may have stepped down for his son, but he was in his prime. He could still run a pack. He would still join his warriors to war. He could still make life a little better for his people. But then he couldn’t do that in a wheelchair.
Nothing would ever make this situation any better. However, at this time Ashton had offered to lead the mourning and burial of Galya and her father, while they almost murdered Judd whose body the Lycan enforcer had burnt to ashes easier.
It wasn’t the best day for the werewolves of Grealor and it hurt in every way.
Gabe could still see the shock on his best friend’s face in his head. He could still see how Judd had been so surprised by everything that he hadn’t even comprehended why he had been the immediate target.
The young Grealor Alpha knew the Lycans were cruel.
Even then he had hoped that Sadako could have mercy on them.
But then an uncle so angry that this particular pack had killed his best friend and forced his nephew into slavery wasn’t the person to ask for mercy, especially when he was trying to hold back not to fuck up his nephew’s plans for vengeance against Grealor.
"Gabe! You need to do this! The Lycans are sounding their mating bells for the first time in twenty-five years!" a panting Zakhar rushed into the alpha’s office to find his alpha still lost in thoughts.
"I hope they don’t invite us there," Zakhar said angrily and Gabe just chuckled sadly as he looked at his friend. He was trying too hard not to scream, at the world and not to mess things up, but he was so close to insanity.
He was trying his best to remain in a good state of mind for the sake of his people, but there were just some things that couldn’t be easy to let go.
The humiliation ritual, the murders of his Luna and her father, the burning of Judd, and the sheer force that the Lycans had come to Grealor with still got him trying to understand what the fuck was happening.
It was even worse now that he knew Tamiko knew his true identity. All of this was screening with Gabe and the fact that Tamiko had refused to reject him made him want to crawl inside a hole and never come out again.
"What is it?" Zakhar asked as he sat on one of the couches in the alpha’s office. This office was a horror spot for them and yet they still had to show up.
Zakhar may have seemed relaxed but he, just like everyone in Grealor, was dying slowly in the middle. The pain was becoming too much, but he had to step up and be the warrior who would protect their home.
Maybe that was why instead of being at the trial grounds he was here to eat their alpha know of the Kawai bells.
"They sent us an invite knowing so well we couldn’t decline without it seeming like we have a vendetta with the Lycans on the first day their king steps out and invites all unmated werewolves into his kingdom," Gabe said defeatedly.
He couldn’t understand why the universe was being so cruel to him and his people.
All of this was too much for them and sooner or later they would have to accept the fact that they were never going to be ready to face the Lycans or even whatever the fuck the Lycans were having for them.
Lord Sadako had referred to them as enemies in the morning and barely hours later into the evening, they were having an incident. Perhaps the Lycan leaders were delusional?
"Are we going?" Zakhar asked as he stared at his alpha. Gabe was so done with everything that he wanted to disappear even for a year or an extended period.
"We must. All unmated wolves are called there as it is our best chance at stronger warriors. You and I have to go make sure that our people aren’t treated like shit. Danny will stay here with Father and keep the pack running.
"Besides, what could go wrong more than every little thing that has already gone wrong since the mating ceremony a few months ago anyway, right?" Gabe said with a sad laugh.
He wasn’t sure if he was to cry or shout at the absurdity of the statement, but the poopy face that Zakhar was wearing was a reminder that he wasn’t alone in all of this.
It was a strangely comforting thought because at the end of the day at least they would have each other in the den of Lycans who couldn’t give two shits about them being there or not.
"Can we skip?" Zakhar asked.
"No. Unfortunately, we can’t," Gabe said as he ran a hand through his messy hair. He was going to lose his mind at this rate and the fact that there wasn’t a thing that he could do to stop them was even making him go nuts more.
"Those fuckers," Zakhar said angrily as he punched the alpha’s desk, creating a dent in it.
Instead of getting a reprimand from Gabe, the alpha just smiled sadly at him. They were all dealing with shit differently and if Zakhar wanted to break things, he wouldn’t blame him. Someone had to lash out eventually.
"Go prepare. The ceremony is in two days. We still have time to mourn our dead," Gabe said as if that was used to make the madness even better. The Lycans were cruel and they weren’t ever going to be any merciful.
Gabe wondered if the king already knew that Tamiko was his son. He wondered if that was the reason that Sadako had come to kill Judd for no apparent reason today. But then again no matter how hard she thought about it, none of it made sense.
Well, perhaps he shouldn’t have messed with Tamiko despite knowing he was the Lycan king’s son in the first place, right?
"Okay... I’ll see you later, Gabe."
