Chapter 94: Administering some medicine hehehe

Han Xin didn’t pull his hand away. He was afraid that she would get hurt so he could only resort to coaxing her. His other hand gently resting on Peng Xiu’s arm, he tried to talk her into letting go. The touch of her skin wasn’t as expected. Her hands weren’t soft and delicate but rather toned and firm like she had done hard labour all her life.

"Your Highness," he whispered, trying to keep his voice calm. "It’s me... General Han. I am just checking your wound."

Peng Xiu’s eyes that had closed shut opened making his heart jump. Her eyes, glazed with delirium, locked onto his. She pulled him closer, their faces inches apart, their breaths mingling in the confined space of the carriage. He could feel the heat radiating from her feverish skin seeping into his own. He bit his lower lips slightly seeing that she wasn’t letting go.

"It’s Xin-ge," he coaxed gently, "let me help you."

As though he had said a magic word, Xiang Yu loosened his grip slightly and stared at him as though considering his words. Outside the carriage, Mei and Lian watched with growing concern. Mei’s worry was for their master’s worsening condition, while Lian’s eyes narrowed with suspicion, fearing Han Xin might take advantage of their master like he did before.

Finally, her grip slackened, and Han Xin carefully pulled back her clothes to examine the wound on her back. He removed the bandage and a look of relief graced his face when he saw that it wasn’t infected. In fact, it was healing well, so why was she still sick?

His brow creased when he recalled something. All this time he had been preoccupied with so many things that he overlooked the possibility that she might have been exposed to the sleeping thorn poison while fighting the wolf.

"Han Zhan!" he called out, his voice urgent. Han Zhan, who had been standing guard outside, immediately appeared at the carriage door. "Get the antidote to the physician so he can prepare it."

Han Zhan nodded taking this matter seriously. He sprinted to their carriage, returning quickly with the antidote and the preparation instructions. He handed it to the old physician, who began to work on concocting the remedy.

While waiting Han Xin stayed by her side. He turned to the twins standing outside and reassured them. "Your master will be fine. All she has to do is drink this medicine and she will be back on her feet by tomorrow."

The pair relaxed at his words. They would never admit it but they were happy that this uncle was there otherwise they wouldn’t know what to do in this strange world.

Han Xin’s eyes traced the delicate lines of her face his mind in a daze. She lay there, curled up like a fragile bird, her usual fiery spirit subdued by the fever. Her eyes were now closed and she seemed so small and vulnerable, a stark contrast to the troublemaker when she was awake.

He felt a pang of sympathy and an unexpected tenderness. What could she have gone through that she would sleep in such a manner? It was like she was insecure. He reached out to run his fingers through her hair and comfort her but his hand froze when he realised what he was doing. Instead, he gently tucked a stray strand of her hair behind her ear the sweat on her forehead moistening the tips of his fingers.

The physician rushed back and stood by the entrance of the carriage carrying a fresh bowl of medicine. He handed it to Lian, asking her to take it inside. Lian entered the carriage with the bowl. Han Xin nodded in acknowledgement and took the bowl, his gaze never leaving Peng Xiu’s face.

He knelt beside her and softly called her name, trying to rouse her. "Your Highness, wake up. You need to drink this." But she remained unresponsive, her lips pressed together in a stubborn line like she knew what was coming.

"Wake up and drink it. You will feel better afterwards," he said, and Han Zhan, who was leaning against the carriage outside, arched his brow in surprise. His cousin never coaxed neither did he speak so softly to anyone so one can imagine his reaction hearing him coax the princess like coaxing a child.

Han Xin sighed, regretting his earlier praise of her docility while ill. She was anything but cooperative now. He glanced over his shoulder and called for the twins hoping they could assist him. The twins exchanged a look and shook their heads, taking a step back.

Their Master rarely got sick but when he did, he was incredibly difficult. Last time, it was like pulling teeth to get him to take his medicine. They thought that Han Xin might have better luck, being stronger and all.

Han Xin’s brow furrowed in confusion wondering why they were acting like he had asked them to complete an impossible task. But as he turned back to Peng Xiu, he soon understood their reluctance. She was indeed stubborn, her lips sealed tight no matter how he tried to coax her.

Having never had to coax someone his frustration grew rapidly. His face darkened having realised that there was only one option left. Since the situation was urgent, he had no choice but to feed her mouth to mouth. He could have asked one of the maidservants to do it, but for some reason, he felt uncomfortable.

He would deal with the consequences later. Taking a deep breath, he lifted the bowl to his lips and took a large sip. The taste was acrid, but he steeled himself. He leaned in closer, his heart pounding in his chest.

Lian, "???"

Mei, "!!!"

Carefully, he parted her lips with his own and poured the medicine into her mouth, hoping she would swallow. The taste of the bitter liquid mingled with the warmth of her breath, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still.

Xiang Yu resisted the urge to swallow at first with some of the liquid trickling down his cheek and neck before leaving a wet patch on the pillow. But Han Xin persisted, hoping she would swallow. It soon paid off because she stopped struggling and she swallowed the medicine obediently.
