The laughter of their meal lingered in the air when a soft beep from his pocket interrupted their lighthearted banter.

"Something must have happened," Xiang Yu added, noting Han Xin’s steady nod as he resumed his meal.

Xiang Yu got up saying, "I will be right back." He brushed his fingers on Han Xin’s shoulder and leaned down kissing his cheel before walking away.

He could almost visualise the way her face twisted in annoyance, teeth gnashing against one another. Xiang Yu chuckled, the sound lightening the mood even more. He decided to spare her anymore grief by changing the subject. "Da Hei is a traitor, isn’t he?"

Su Jing felt a tightening in her chest. She was struggling to accept the truth that hovered over her like a storm cloud. She couldn’t believe that the young man they had saved from human traffickers in the wastelands had actually betrayed them. It was hard for her to accept.

"What if it was someone else in the team?" she shot back, voice shaky but holding on to defiance.

Xiang Yu’s eyes were hard and stern. "You have been with them longer than you have known Da Hei. Do you not trust them?"

Su Jing’s heart sank. She had fought alongside those three more times than she could count, through blood, sweat, and terror. They had built their territory together, picking up the shattered pieces of their lives in this desolate world.

But Da Hei... Da Hei was different. They had pulled him from the grasp of a slave trader. They had saved him from those horrible people and he was extremely grateful.

"But how could he?" she continued, her hands balled into fists. "We saved him! We gave him a better life."

Xiang Yu’s gaze softened for just a moment. He understood the weight of loyalty and betrayal. Before he could speak, a familiar warmth enveloped him. Han Xin stepped behind him, wrapping a pair of strong arms around his waist.

A gentle kiss brushed Xiang Yu’s cheek, and the corners of his mouth turned up in a smile. He raised his arm instinctively, caressing Han Xin’s soft hair.

"The Eremites are known for their kindness," he murmured, sinking even deeper into Han Xin’s embrace. "And you are often taken advantage of."

Xiang Yu’s eyes turned cold again as he focused on Su Jing. "Of course, the Overseer would plant spies among you." This was another tactic that ambitious woman used to infiltrate them.

Su Jing’s anger flared within her, hot and dangerous. "So what do I do with him?"

Xiang Yu sneered, the anger in her voice doing nothing to sway him. "Don’t let him suspect anything. I will deal with him personally."

A chill settled over Su Jing. "Fine," she finally said, breathing heavily. "Do I still proceed with the rest of the plan?"

Xiang Yu felt a prickling sensation on his neck where Han Xin’s warm lips had just been. It made him feel oddly exposed, a rush of heat creeping up his skin. He turned his head slightly, trying to keep his tone light. "Xin-ge, don’t make trouble."

But Han Xin seemed unfazed, lost in his playful world. He nipped Xiang Yu’s earlobe, pulling a surprised laugh from him. On the other side of the call, Su Jing stood with her arms crossed, dark lines of annoyance etched across her face.

"I have to go," Xiang Yu said quickly, his focus shifting to Su Jing. "Proceed as planned."

Before Su Jing could respond, the line went dead, leaving only silence. Xiang Yu turned back to Han Xin with a mock glare. "Why are you making trouble?"

Han Xin grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "You have been gone for so long. We were all getting a little worried, so I came to check."

Xiang Yu faced him fully, cupping Han Xin’s face in his hands. The affectionate gesture drew a soft hum from Han Xin, who leaned into his palm like a contented dog asking for more pats.

"Did you order dessert?" Xiang Yu asked, raising an eyebrow.

"The girls did," Han Xin replied with a teasing smirk. "But as for me? You are my dessert."

Xiang Yu felt his heart race at the playful confidence in Han Xin’s voice. This man knew precisely how to push his buttons, and he was enjoying every minute of it. "Really? Then how about you take a bite and tell me how I taste?"

Han Xin’s grin widened, his eyes glinting with mischief. He pinched Xiang Yu’s chin lightly, holding him in place while his other hand pressed against Xiang Yu’s lower back, drawing him closer. The warmth between them ignited a spark, and Xiang Yu could feel the air thick with tension and unspoken words.

"Don’t tempt me," Han Xin said, voice low and playful. "I might just not be able to hold back."
