Chapter 58: Trying on master’s armour
The girls giggled as they watched the guard crawl away in fear, his eyes wide with terror. Once he was out of sight, they rushed to Xiang Yu, wrapping their arms around him with joyous smiles.
Seeing how innocent they looked now one wouldn’t think they were the same girls who tormented that grown man. They had lured him inside the tent claiming that one of them was having a seizure. The guard rushed in and noticed that one of them was lying on the ground shaking. After that, he didn’t remember what happened. All he knew was that he thought he was going to die.
"Are you hurt anywhere?" Xiang Yu asked, his voice filled with concern. If he could he would count the number of hairs on their heads.
Lian pouted, "I’m hungry," while her belly growled. She didn’t know when she had last eaten.
"Master look. I chipped a nail," Mei added, showing her hand with a dramatic sigh.
Xiang Yu heaved a sigh of relief, a smile tugging at his lips. "Nothing serious then. Put on your cloaks, it’s cold outside." Given that they were complaining about small things it meant they were fine. He had been a little worried that the crown prince’s grace hadn’t extended to Peng Xiu’s maidservants but from the looks of it they were treated fairly well.
The girls hurriedly dressed in their mink coats that were on the bed, the soft fur brushing against their skin as they stepped out into the chilly night. Xiang Yu beckoned the guard named Yu Xan. He hadn’t gone far. He was afraid to leave the crown prince alone with the people of Yige even though they were women. If anything happened to him, he would have to follow him to the grave.
When the man walked over Xiang Yu instructed him to fetch some food. If the Divine Emperor could hear this, he would be pulling his hair out while saying that Xiang Yu wasn’t taking this seriously. Well, he might be right. He wasn’t taking this seriously. He was going to do it at his own pace and let the twins join in on the fun. Whether he could actually help Han Xin wasn’t his concern at this point.
The girls eagerly placed their orders like it was a bloody restaurant. Their eyes sparkled with excitement. "Noodles, dumplings, osmanthus cakes, and roasted chicken!" they chorused.
The guard was speechless, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. This was a military camp, and it was late at night. How were they supposed to make so much food in a short time? Xiang Yu noticed the guard’s hesitation and added, "Just get food that’s easy to prepare."
The guard bowed his head and hurried off, leaving Xiang Yu to lead the girls to his tent. Once inside, they ran around, touching everything they found fascinating, their laughter filling the space with joy. Peng Xiu had long been removed from the tent and any traces of the prior conflict gone.
Xiang Yu sat down. With the map of Yige country in his hands he put his feet up on the table his legs crossed at the ankles. He had no care for his image. It didn’t take him long before he figured out the map he was holding had special markings in places where they could infiltrate the enemy country without being noticed.
A smile crept up his lips admiring this crown prince for being extremely smart. This map would be the detriment of Yige country and help expand Zhen’s territories, but he couldn’t even take advantage of this secret weapon. That’s because the crown prince was blinded by love.
A loud raucous suddenly drew his attention. When he glanced over, he found the girls trying on the amour, one was wearing the helmet and the other the breastplate. But because the breastplate was too heavy for Lian, she tumbled over dragging Mei with her.
"Are you good?" he asked before nonchalantly returning to his gaze on the map. As long as no one was hurt or crying then it was fine.
"We are good," replied Mei through gritted teeth as she tried to help her sister to her feet. Lian raised her thumb gesturing that she was good but she was sprawled on the ground like a dying cockroach lying with its tiny legs facing up.
Yu Xan announced his presence before entering the tent with a few soldiers. The group of men froze upon seeing this. The crown prince treated his armour like treasure. It was to be polished twice a day and hung in a particular way. If there was so much as a scratch on it someone would lose an arm. Yet now...
Xiang Yu got up and with languid steps he walked over. The soldiers held their breath thinking that the two maidservants were about to be taught a lesson. But to their surprise, his highness just helped the girl up and removed the breastplate for her before hanging it up.
Seeing that they remained frozen like statues at the entrance of the tent he glared at them. They immediately snapped out of it. They hurriedly set up a table, placing warm dishes on it. Most of the food had been prepared earlier, but it had been rejected by the princess. Unlike the others, Yu Xan remained rooted on the spot. He couldn’t fathom what was going on with his highness. Princess Xiu was out in the cold, locked in a cage, while her maidservants were being treated like royalty. It didn’t make any sense.
The crown prince was so kind to them, serving food into their bowls like it was the most natural thing. He couldn’t help but wonder if their prince had changed strategies or something. Unlike the princess of Yugi, the twins ate ravenously. It was as if they hadn’t had a proper meal in a year. Xiang Yu soon realised that Yu Xan was still here so he waved him out of the tent. The man bowed deeply before leaving. He couldn’t wait to share this gossip with Yu Ze.
Lian looked up at her master. With curiosity in her eyes she asked, "What are we supposed to do in this world?"
