Chapter 400: I don’t keep useless people around me.
The imperial guards, loyal yet fearful, instinctively took a step back. Their hearts raced as dread pooled in their stomachs. They had believed the imperial lord to be a terrifying imposing figure. But now, they realized, the crown prince was an even greater force of nature. Xiang Yu stood before them, a chilling tempest, his calm demeanour hiding a storm of rage.
A sneer curled Xiang Yu’s lips, sharp and mocking. "Who is supposed to stop me?" he queried his voice a low growl that reverberated through the hallway. "You?"
The guard flinched, shaken by the intensity radiating from Xiang Yu. At that moment, the reality of his fury churned the air like a brewing storm. He stood there, unyielding and unfathomable, a true embodiment of power that promised chaos. The resolve of the guards crumbled away, and an unspoken understanding swept through them like a cold wind.
"Follow me if you want, but don’t stand in my way," Xiang Yu commanded. His tone left no room for disobedience.
The guards shared a brief glance, recognising the futility of opposing their prince’s will. They bowed their heads submissively, knowing when to yield. With that, Xiang Yu strode onward, the ominous weight of his presence drawing all eyes upon him as he crossed the threshold toward the imperial palace.
He reached the imperial study, standing there for a moment as though waiting for something. Outside, the guards stationed by the door remained stern and resolute. When the doors slid open, the steward stepped out and bowed. "Please enter, your majesty is waiting for you."
Xiang Yu walked into the imperial study, where the atmosphere was tense and suffocating. The imperial lord, sat with his head slightly bowed, sipping from a steaming cup of tea, ignoring the presence of his son.
"Father," Xiang Yu said, attempting a respectful tone, but his words were cut short as the steaming cup came flying toward him. The hot liquid splashed against his skin, scalding him. He gritted his teeth against the pain and staggered, feeling a wave of humiliation.
Before he could regain his balance, a powerful shove sent him crashing half the distance across the study. The imperial lord, enveloped in an aura that felt devilish and commanding, walked toward him with slow, deliberate steps.
Xiang Yu struggled to get up, but his body met the wall with a loud thud. He winced, his vision blurring. Blood trickled down his face, but he clenched his fist, determination hardening his resolve.
The imperial lord approached, gripping Xiang Yu’s face with a fierce hand, forcing him to look up. "How dare you let that alpha mark you?" he demanded, voice low and menacing. "Who gave you the right?"
Xiang Yu’s lips curled into a crazed smile that sent a shiver down the spine of his father. "I never chose this," he spat, eyes blazing with defiance. "I never chose to be an alpha." The air crackled between them, a silent war of wills.
The imperial lord struck Xiang Yu’s face with brutal force, the sensation explosive and immediate. Each blow left his skin swollen and bruised. "I am your father," the imperial lord spat, his voice deep and filled with fury. "I have every right to make you into anything I want."
Xiang Yu tasted blood, warm and bitter, as he spat out a mouthful. "Just like my mother," he retorted, the words slicing through the tension like a sharpened blade.
At that, the imperial lord’s rage intensified, each syllable from his son adding fuel to the roaring fire within him. With a swift motion, he grabbed Xiang Yu by the back of his collar, dragging him toward the glass French doors, murder radiating from him like a palpable force. He kicked the doors open, and the shattered glass fell like rain, scattering across the floor.
Once outside, the cold air rushed at them, chilling Xiang Yu to the bone as he dangled perilously over the balcony. But fear did not grip him; instead, he stood firm, resolute.
"Don’t you dare mention her!" the imperial lord barked, his voice laced with venom. "What right do you have to speak of her?"
"She is my mother, so I have every right," Xiang Yu shot back, his voice steady, defiance bubbling just beneath the surface.
The imperial lord’s fingers loosened ominously as if he were willing to let Xiang Yu slip. Xiang Yu felt himself descend slightly, but the grip tightened once more, saving him from a fatal fall. The imperial lord’s gaze darkened when he noticed that his son did not scream or express fear. Instead, Xiang Yu’s expression was one of grim determination that mirrored the one his
wife had on the video she left for him before she died.
"Do it," he sneered, a maniacal gleam in his eyes. "Just like you did to my mother. Drive me to death."
The imperial lord’s teeth ground together in frustration before he yanked Xiang Yu back, throwing him back inside the imperial study. Xiang Yu slammed into the wall, the impact reverberating through him before crashing to the ground.
The imperial lord looked down at his son with disdain. "I don’t keep useless people around me," he snarled. "So behave yourself. Otherwise, I won’t be so benevolent."
Xiang Yu sat up, his gaze unwavering. "You will marry an omega from one of the noble families in two weeks." The imperial lord’s tone was flat, devoid of compassion.
Xiang Yu snorted. "Which family would marry their omega to a marked alpha? You don’t even know if washing the mark is possible."
Fury twisted across the imperial lord’s face, but then a sly smile crept in. "Don’t worry about that. Once Han Xin is dead, it will be much easier to remove that mark... oh, and I arranged for you to have more treatments to undo the damage."
Xiang Yu gritted his teeth, rage bubbling beneath the surface, his fists clenching at his sides. The imperial lord’s gaze hardened, fierce and unyielding. "Guards, take him away. You have my permission to use force if he doesn’t cooperate."
Imperial guards rushed in, their grip iron-like as they seized Xiang Yu. He glared defiantly at his father, shaking off their hands before walking out, each step heavy with rebellion.
As soon as Xiang Yu was gone, the imperial lord’s rage erupted. He swept everything off the table, papers and cups crashing to the floor in a chaotic mess, his controlled aura of power now a raging tempest.
