Chapter 399: Yu Yu wakes up
The medical bay was stark and sterile, its white walls gleaming under the harsh fluorescent lights. In the centre of the room stood a healing capsule, its soft hum a constant reminder that it was in use. Suddenly, the gentle rhythm was interrupted by a series of alarming beeps.
Xiang Yu jolted upright, disoriented, and instinctively tore the monitoring equipment from his arms. Panic surged through him as he swung his legs over the edge of the capsule, the cool metal biting into his skin. He called out for Hex, but there was no answer. The communicator that usually rested on his wrist was gone. He swore under his breath, frustration boiling beneath his skin.
As he stood, a sudden wave of numbness swept through his legs, sending him crashing to the floor. The disorientation blurred his vision, and just as he struggled to comprehend his surroundings, the door slid open with a hiss. A flurry of doctors rushed in, their eyes wide with alarm. The Imperial Lord had commanded all the imperial doctors to treat Xiang Yu after he fell unconscious.
Doctor Bai lingered at the back of the group, watching as the others hoisted Xiang Yu to his feet. "I am fine," he said tersely, pushing away the hands that assisted him. "Everyone out." His tone brokered no argument, yet the doctors hesitated, recognizing the tension that radiated from him.
Seeing their confusion, Xiang Yu’s eyes narrowed. "I said get out!" He shoved the nearest doctor away, and the command sent a ripple of fear through the room. "Yes, Your Highness," they murmured in unison, eyes averted, shuffling toward the exit.
But one figure hesitated. "Not you, Doctor Bai," Xiang Yu called out, his voice sharp enough to cut. Little Bai paused, turning slowly back. "Check my vitals."
As the other doctors filed out, two imperial guards stepped in, faces impassive, their presence a weight in the already tense room. Xiang Yu shot them a furious glance. "You two get out."
"Your Highness, by order of the Imperial Lord, we must watch you at all times," they replied, unfazed.
With a sneer, Xiang Yu felt a tremor of anger ripple through him. Doctor Bai wisely suggested, "Your Highness, please sit."
Xiang Yu’s eyes flicked to little Bai, his gaze softening just enough for him to comply. He sank into a chair, the cool plastic grounding him as Doctor Bai approached, his demeanour calm despite the guards’ imposing presence. Concern flickered in Little Bai’s gaze as he began taking readings, glancing at the guards as if gauging their intent.
After a moment of tense silence, Doctor Bai spoke. "Your vitals are good. You are recovering well... You just need some more rest." He handed Xiang Yu a folded note, which he glanced at before reflexively clenching his fist.
"Where are my clothes?" he asked.
Doctor Bai retrieved a sealed bag and presented it. "Here," he said gently.
"Thanks." Xiang Yu rose abruptly, heading toward the changing room. When he moved, the guards instinctively followed. He spun around, his eyes blazing, a storm contained within him. "You want to watch me change, too?"
The guards faltered, a palpable sense of discomfort in the air. They took a reluctant step back, overwhelmed by his presence.
Without waiting for a reply, Xiang Yu retreated into the changing room, closing the door firmly behind him. Alone, he took a deep breath, steadying his racing heart. He unfolded the note, the words within sending his pulse racing and his vision swimming. His bloodshot eyes studied the message. It turns out that Han Zhan was asking for his help to get Han Xin out. Xiang Yu put the note away his anger rising. He couldnt wait to tear the Imperial Lord apart and make him pay for daring to lay a finger on Han Xin.
The dimly lit changing room was suddenly filled with an oppressive silence, broken only by the soft rustle of fabric. Xiang Yu stood before the mirror, taking in his fearsome reflection.
His dark, intense eyes penetrating gaze that reflected both power and pain. The determined set of his jaw spoke of his unwavering spirit.
His aura swirled around him, a tempest of strength that cast a shadow over the small space, seeming to bleed into the air around him. With a deliberate motion, he pushed back his hair, allowing the strands to fall away.
As he adjusted the hem of his dark jacket, he felt the weight of what lay ahead pressing down on him like lead. He prepared himself mentally for what was about to go down. He was ready to burn that man’s empire to the ground.
With one last ferocious look at his reflection, he turned away. The fabric whispered against his skin as he strode towards the door, each step resonating with purpose.
Upon exiting, he found Doctor Bai waiting at the side, an expression of concern etched into his features. It was a concern that ran deeper than mere worry, it was the shadow of anxiety over the man he loves. Han Zhan was about to venture into the very belly of the beast to rescue Han Xin.
Little Bai couldn’t sit still for days. He had kept the message Han Zhan had left for him to give Xiang Yu when he woke up. He wasn’t even sure that Xiang Yu could be trusted to help them. After being marked by Han Xin, Xiang Yu should at least have traits an omega should have towards their alpha but to be honest he had no idea if that applied to Xiang Yu whose body had been forcibly pushed into differentiate into an alpha when he was genetically predisposed to become an omega.
"Thank you, Doctor Bai," Xiang Yu said, his voice low and unyielding. Beneath the firmness, a thread of gratitude weaved through his words.
Doctor Bai bowed slightly. He wanted to say something else but he knew he couldn’t so he could only watch as Xiang Yu left the medical bay.
Behind Xiang Yu, the imperial guards moved in unison, their polished armour clinking softly with each step. Yet, even as they walked, the prince’s overwhelming aura cast a chilling haze around him.
The guards instinctively maintained a respectful distance, acutely aware of the fierce power emanating from him.
As they approached the vast, echoing hall leading to the main palace, Xiang Yu decided to confront his father and discern his intentions. He wanted to know exactly what the old man was scheming. Just as he neared the corner, one of the guards, trembling slightly under the intensity of Xiang Yu’s presence, ventured to speak.
"Your Highness," the guard stammered, his voice wavering, "your father has commanded that you are to be confined to your palace."
Xiang Yu halted abruptly. The atmosphere thickened, crackling with tension, as if the very room held its breath in anticipation. He turned slowly, eyes igniting like twin flames, fierce, relentless, and unforgiving. The guard stood frozen, caught in the storm of Xiang Yu’s anger.
