Chapter 358: Are the rumours true?

Chapter 358: Are the rumours true?

Leia snorted, unable to hold back her disdain. "Who would have thought the alphas of the republic would be so ill-mannered? You couldn’t even stand up and greet her Highness properly."

Mei shot back, "Who are you addressing informally?"

Leia’s eyes narrowed. "He is not my crown prince, so why should I address him as such?"

Lian, eager to defuse the tension, chimed in, "Then Sienna, would you like something to drink? Some juice, maybe?"

Leia’s voice rose as she yelled "You take that back!" while take an offensive stance. Lian and Mei stood firm, ready to defend their master without hesitation.

Xiang Yu raised a hand, a gesture that stopped them in their tracks as he leaned back, unfazed. Throughout it all, Princess Sienna studied him, her eyes sharp and assessing.

Noticing her gaze, Xiang Yu smirked. "Have you seen enough, Your Highness?"

Sienna hesitated, then asked, "So, are the rumours true?"

"Which rumours?" he replied lazily, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "That I like alphas or that I am a useless crown prince?"

Princess Sienna wanted to say the first one but was interrupted by Leia, who, still seething, declared, "Both."

Xiang Yu chuckled, a rich sound that filled the room. "Why would it matter when this marriage will never happen?"

A pang shot through Princess Sienna’s chest. She didn’t want to marry him either, but the thought of losing her family heirloom weighed heavily on her mind. Leia’s anger flared; she despised the thought of her princess marrying this scum, yet hearing him be the one to reject her made her even more furious. He wasn’t worthy of Sienna, so why was he so quick to dismiss her.

Breaking the tension, Xiang Yu placed three ornate boxes on the table. "Two of these are from my father," he said, handing one of the boxes to her. "This one is from me, but it comes at a price."

Confused, Princess Sienna accepted the box, her fingers trembling slightly as she opened it. Her eyes widened in shock. Inside was exactly what she had come for.

Her heart was a tangled mess as she gazed at the family heirloom, the one thing she had been willing to sacrifice everything for. Her fingers brushed over it gently, but her eyes were sour, filled with conflicting emotions.

Even Leia, standing beside her, was baffled. They had come to meet the crown prince with low expectations, anticipating embarrassment or worse. Instead, he had not only rejected her but had also returned her precious heirloom.

If Xiang Yu had a reputation as a good guy, this moment would have felt like a fairytale. But he didn’t. The knowledge that he wanted something from her loomed heavily in the air. Sienna bit her lip, hesitating. Finally, she raised her head and asked, "What is it that you want? I can fulfil it as long as it’s not too much."

Surrounded by wisps of smoke, Xiang Yu replied smoothly, "Don’t worry, Your Highness. What I will need from you in the future won’t affect you personally or bring harm to you or others."

Leia, still suspicious, felt a wave of unease wash over her. She leaned in close, whispering urgently to Sienna, "Your Highness, I don’t think he has good intentions."

Sienna raised her hand, signalling Leia to stop. "I agree," she said, her voice steady

"Good," Xiang Yu continued, unfazed. "As for the marriage, we can play along for now to appease both sides. But we won’t go through with it. You don’t have to show any enthusiasm. Just keep behaving the same way as before."

Sienna felt a wave of relief wash over her. She quickly agreed, grateful for the reprieve. "That works for me."

Xiang Yu smiled, a glint of satisfaction in his eyes. "You may stay a little longer if you wish. Personally, I think you should stick around so they think we are taking this seriously."

Mei chimed in, enthusiasm bubbling over. "We are a very fun group to hang around with."

Lian snorted, crossing her arms. She didn’t like either of them. Leia had an attitude that grated on her nerves, and Sienna was too emotional, smelling overwhelmingly of peppermint rose, which only gave Lian a headache. Just as she was about to voice her thoughts, Mei shoved a handful of nuts into her mouth.

"You should eat something and talk less," Mei said with a cheeky grin, her playful tone a stark contrast to the tension in the room. Lian glared at her, but the nuts had silenced her for now, leaving her to chew in frustration while the scene unfolded before her.

Xiang Yu smiled as he watched the playful banter between Lian and Mei. He picked up a crystal glass, the amber liquid inside catching the soft glow of the chandeliers above. He crossed his legs and leaned back, an embodiment of effortless confidence. His distinct features and piercing gaze held Princess Sienna captive, making it impossible for her to look away.

Despite knowing his less-than-stellar reputation on Star Net, she found herself drawn in by his undeniable charm. As he took a sip of his drink, his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, and Sienna quickly averted her gaze, a warm flush spreading across her cheeks. His hand hung lazily on the armrest, a cigar pinched between his fingers, exuding an allure that was hard to resist.

If only his reputation matched his appearance, she thought. Perhaps then, she wouldn’t be so resistant to the idea of marrying him. For now, she could only steal glances and wonder what lay beneath that breathtaking facade.

Unaware of her thoughts, Xiang Yu’s attention drifted to Lian and Mei, who were in the midst of a lively argument about playing music. With a calm demeanour, he intervened, and their bickering subsided.

"We want to put on a show for you," they announced, excitement bubbling over. "Master, we want to sing our new favourite song."

Xiang Yu watched them with a fond smile, like a proud father observing his children. When these two fought they fought to the bitter end but when they worked together, they were an unfathomable force, their energy infectious.

Princess Sienna, who had decided to stay a little longer, found herself calling out to Xiang Yu, her voice barely above a whisper. He turned to her, and her heart jumped, though her expression remained composed.

"You three seem to have a good relationship," she said, unsure why the words slipped out. Perhaps she wanted to hear it from him, to confront the rumours of his preference for alphas.

Leia, standing close by, mumbled sarcastically, "Yeah, very good relationship."

Xiang Yu remained unfazed, responding casually, "Yes, we do. They are like my daughters."

Sienna’s eyes widened at his words, and she could see Leia’s face fall as well. They were thinking the same thing that is weren’t they all the same age?

But Xiang Yu’s gaze shifted back to Lian and Mei, completely absorbed in their performance, looking like a parent watching his little ones at a recital. He even called out to Hex to record the moment.

What started as a planned thirty-minute visit stretched into something much longer. Sienna found herself entranced by the atmosphere, caught up in the merriment around her. She sat, lost in thought when she was suddenly enveloped by an irresistible floral scent. It was subtle yet captivating, drawing her in without her even realizing it.
