Chapter 315: Losing control
AN: So sorry for the delay. It’s christmas time and its getting harder to find time to write. I hope you enjoy this Chapter.
Xiang Yu was dragged to the cafeteria by Lian and Mei, who were acting suspiciously. He knew them too well to be fooled by their innocent expressions. They were hiding something, but he didn’t ask. His stomach was growling louder than usual, demanding attention. Xiang Yu was so hungry he felt he could eat an entire fridge.
The physical and mental power of a high-ranking alpha was taxing, and as a modified alpha, his needs were even greater. Alphas consumed a lot more to sustain their strength and mental acuity, making nutritional supplements essential. A single pack could do what a whole turkey couldn’t for their stomachs.
As they reached the canteen, heads turned and whispers filled the air. Xiang Yu had never set foot in the cafeteria since he enrolled. His status afforded him a separate dining area, where his chef personally delivered his meals. If he wasn’t eating in his secluded space, he dined at a nearby restaurant that catered exclusively to nobles, with a private room always reserved for him. It was no wonder people were staring at him as if an extinct animal had just appeared.
Xiang Yu ignored the curious and judgmental gazes as he sat down, following Mei and Lian’s insistent gestures. They told him to wait and they would bring him food. They claimed they were simply performing their filial piety towards their master, but to the onlookers, it appeared as though Xiang Yu was bullying them.
Whispers spread through the cafeteria, with some students thinking it was too much. Not only did Xiang Yu bully their class president, but now he was also targeting their idols. It was unacceptable in their eyes.
As Xiang Yu waited, his communicator buzzed with a notification. He tapped on the bouncing bubble, his eyebrows arching as he saw the posts from a forum on StarNet with the hashtag "clown prince." With his communicator set to privacy mode, no one could see what he was looking at except Han Xin, of course. Xiang Yu noticed that the posts were ones the original Xiang Yu had read anonymously.
Most of them were filled with humiliating comments or people speaking ill of him. The original Xiang Yu had even tried to defend himself anonymously, but it only made him seem like a brainless fan of himself.
Xiang Yu thought reading such posts was self-torture. Why did the original Xiang Yu subject himself to such pain? He swiped up, seeing that the recent posts were all about him from this morning.
Some of the titles on the forum were harsh. They were titles like, "Who is the Clown Prince Pretending For?" and "When Did the Wu Twins Turn into the Clown’s Lackeys?" One post even mentioned how Lian and Mei had brought food for Xiang Yu. Xiang Yu knew that the person who wrote this post was watching him.
With a slight turn of his head, he scanned the sea of students. Their laughter dimmed as his gaze swept over them. When their eyes met him, they quickly averted their stares like mice caught in the gaze of a hawk. But one pair of eyes remained locked with his, unyielding and provocative.
Xiang Yu’s gaze stopped meeting Peng Xiu’s look of disdain. Peng Xiu glared at him, and Xiang Yu, with no care for his self-image, as the crown prince raised his middle finger, a defiant smirk dancing on his lips. He felt a rush of satisfaction at her reaction; her eyes flared with anger, and she quickly looked away
Xiang Yu was about to gloat when Han Xin sat right next to Peng Xiu. He felt like he had been stabbed in the heart, and the person twisted the knife painfully. Peng Xiu’s affectionate gaze drifted toward Han Xin, and the pair looked like they were truly getting along.
A wave of possessiveness surged through Xiang Yu, a primal instinct that made his muscles tense. This was his possessiveness towards Han Xin, exacerbated by his alpha instinct. Alphas could be very possessive and territorial, which made them react physically violently towards threats. Earlier, he had been able to control himself, but this time something had snapped.
Xiang Yu’s fists clenched under the table, his nails digging into his palms as he glowered at Peng Xiu whose laughter was amplified in the background. Her annoying laughter grated against his ears like nails on a chalkboard. His muscles tensed, coiling like a tightly wound spring, ready to unleash the tempest of emotions that roiled within.
But before he could take a step forward, a hand gripped his arm with surprising strength. It was Mei, her fingers firm but gentle, pulling him back into his seat with an urgency that momentarily broke through the haze of his rage. "Master, calm down," she murmured, her voice a soft plea as if she were trying to keep a wild beast at bay.
At the same moment, Lian’s eyes darted between him and the unfolding scene, her expression laden with concern. "You can’t let this get to you," she urged her voice steady but laced with urgency.
Hex, ever vigilant, had sensed the shift in the air. The spike in his pheromones was a telltale sign of his escalating distress.
"Yu Yu, you can’t lose control, not here," Hex’s worried voice echoed in his mind, an internal alarm that rang louder than the laughter around him.
Xiang Yu inhaled deeply, the air filling his lungs like a lifeline. He fought against the tempest swirling inside, focusing on the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest. But as he exhaled, a stinging pain shot through him, a cruel reminder of his pheromone disorder.
The discomfort spread like wildfire, but he masked it, clenching his jaw against the pain, donning a facade of indifference. Inside, however, he felt like a dormant volcano, molten rage bubbling beneath the surface, ready to erupt at any moment.
The noise of the cafeteria faded further as he concentrated on his breathing, drawing in the air as if each breath could quell the storm within him. Moments ticked away, each second stretching into eternity until he felt the storm begin to recede, if only slightly.
Slowly, he turned to Lian and Mei, who wore expressions of deep concern, their eyes wide and searching. This was the first time they had witnessed him in such a state, and the worry etched on their faces tugged at something deep within him. "Can it be treated?" Lian asked, her voice barely above a whisper as if the answer could tip the balance one way or another.
