Chapter 306: The Imperial Lord’s secret.

As he turned to leave, Xiang Yu’s eyes became fierce. He gripped the doctor’s wrist to the point of breaking it and pulled him down. Doctor Bright was pulled down to meet Xiang Yu’s line of sight, and when he saw the hostility in the young man’s eyes, his blood ran cold. "You mention it to my father, and I will kill you and leave you with no body to be buried. Now do your job."

Doctor Bright swallowed and nodded before Xiang Yu loosened his grip. Soon, the room had staff walking in and out with bloody clothes, and the painful groans of a man could be heard through the door.

Han Xin had thought that Xiang Yu would be in his healing capsule, but he heard from the staff that Xiang Yu refused to use it. Han Xin’s brows creased. He knew Xiang Yu couldn’t endure any pain. Even for the smallest cut that would heal within hours, he would be eager to use the healing capsule. So what was going on? He wanted to see this for himself, so he walked up to Xiang Yu’s room. He was, after all, Xiang Yu’s attendant and wouldn’t be restricted from this area.

On his way, he was met with staff carrying blood-soaked cloths, their expressions distressed. He walked to the door, which was partially open, and saw a figure lying on the bed, rarely making a sound as the doctor treated his wounds. The two alphas of the Wu family were right by his bedside, looking so worried they could hardly focus on anything else.

Han Xin didn’t stay longer. He had already seen what he wanted to see. He turned to leave without looking back. Just because Xiang Yu had been reborn and took the punishment didn’t mean that would absolve him from everything that he had done to him in his past life. In this life, he wouldn’t even give Xiang Yu a chance to live one more day. He would speed up the end of his enemies, Xiang Yu included. This should be considered merciful.

The Imperial Lord Xiang entered his bed chambers in the palace, his movements graceful and elegant as he poured a drink from his crystal decanter into a glass. He swirled the glass, the strong aroma assailing his nose. "Genesis, summon my beloved," he commanded.

The Artificial Intelligence responded, "Yes, Your Majesty. Summoning Empress."

Hearing this, one might think Genesis was sending a message to the Imperial Empress to come and accompany the Imperial Lord, but that was not what happened. The floor pulled apart, and a cylindrical object rose from below.

The golden tube came to a stop, and the opaque surface disintegrated, revealing a stunningly beautiful woman floating in a clear liquid, her eyes closed, appearing peaceful. The atmosphere was eerie.

Xiang Yize sat down with the glass in hand. It was clear that the empress was long dead, but he still spoke to her as if she were alive and well. "My love, you wouldn’t guess what Yu-er did," he said, waiting for an answer in the silence that followed.

He took a sip, the bitter liquid burning his throat. "Haha, honey, you are always so bad at guessing. Well, let me tell you, he actually lured those Wu girls to his palace to make friends. Amazing, right?" Again, silence followed, as if he were waiting for her to respond.

It was like he was having a conversation with himself, but he truly believed it was real. His expression suddenly turned ugly, as if she had said something ridiculous. "Are you crazy? Why would he fall in love with an alpha when he is an alpha?" Xiang Yize seemed displeased with whatever she was saying because he drank the entire glass in one gulp. "Fine, fine. I will send him another omega to mess with. You are truly worrying over nothing."

"Genesis," Xiang Yize said, "make a house call to the River Swan. Tell them to send another one to the crown prince’s palace."

"Yes, your majesty, right away," Genesis replied.

Xiang Yize turned to his empress and said, "There, are you happy?" After some time, he added, "Since you are happy, how about a little song? I miss your singing."

Xiang Yu had no idea that his mother was preserved in fluid and that his father was having conversations with her as though she were still alive. Xiang Yize had neglected her when she was alive and had a child with another woman.

After being treated so badly by the palace staff and nobles due to her origins as an orphan from the lower cities, she became depressed when her husband had another child with the woman who had bullied her relentlessly ever since she stepped into the palace. Not only that but her husband wouldn’t just divorce her and let her live her life. Unable to bear it she killed herself in her palace.

When Xiang Yize found out that the woman he had married before even becoming the Imperial Lord had died, he regretted it deeply. He suffered a severe mental breakdown, looking at his beta wife lying there lifeless.

Xiang Yize had grown up in the lower cities, digging through trash to find scraps to sell. He and his childhood sweetheart, who later became his wife, had shared dreams of a better life. He had promised her that one day he would bring her to the palace in the sky.

But when he finally achieved his dream and entered the world of the nobles, he was embarrassed by her. She didn’t meet the aesthetic standards of the elite, and he felt ashamed.

In his quest for acceptance, Xiang Yize took an omega into his arms, a woman who was pleasing to the eye and fit the noble’s ideals. This omega became the imperial consort, Peng Xiu’s mother.

It was only after he lost his wife that Xiang Yize realized the true extent of his loss. He suffered a severe mental breakdown but soon recovered, albeit with the delusion that he could still speak to his dead wife.

While Xiang Yize was enjoying his wife’s company, the door to Xiang Yu’s room opened. Xiang Yu, sleeping with his brows furrowed from the lingering pain, didn’t hear anything. He had been given sedatives, but he was still uncomfortable. Han Xin’s figure slipped into the dark room, moving silently.

Hex, who should have been actively watching over Xiang Yu, detected nothing. Han Xin had tampered with Hex’s system so thoroughly that the AI didn’t even know it had been hacked, rendering Han Xin invisible to Hex.

Han Xin approached the bed, his eyes narrowing as he observed Xiang Yu. The room was dimly lit, casting long shadows that danced across the walls. Xiang Yu’s breathing was shallow, and his body was tense even in sleep. Han Xin glared at him with a murderous look on his face.
