Chapter 280: Timeless Devotion

Chapter 280: Timeless Devotion

His heart raced, each beat echoing the uncharacteristic vulnerability he felt. He had always thought love was a distant notion. It was like a fleeting shadow that danced at the edges of his existence. In the past, marriage had seemed like a mere obligation, a societal expectation to fulfil. Yet, the instant Xiang Yu had entered his life, everything shifted. It was as if a long-forgotten melody had been unearthed, and he was now dancing to its rhythm, unable to resist its call.

With his thumb gently caressing the back of Xiang Yu’s hand, Han Xin’s gaze flickered up, searching the depths of his beloved’s eyes. He could feel the warmth radiating from Xiang Yu, a stark contrast to his own trembling demeanour.

"Yu Yu," he began, his voice barely above a whisper yet laced with an urgency that made it tremble, "I thought something was wrong with me. I thought I was going mad." He took a breath, grounding himself in the moment, the world around them fading into a soft blur. "I would constantly dream about us... being together in another life."

Xiang Yu’s brow furrowed in confusion, his mind racing. What was Han Xin talking about? Did he remember something from the first world? Xiang Yu swore silently, hoping Han Xin hadn’t recalled the embarrassing incident with the potato.

Han Xin unaware of what Xiang Yu was thinking smiled softly, the corners of his lips lifting despite the gravity of the moment. "I know I sound crazy," he continued, his heart pounding like a drum, "but it’s the truth. It’s as though you are my soul mate, and deep within, I feel we were together in our last life and are meant to be together in this one as well."

"I was so upset when I saw you with others," he continued, his voice trembling with the rawness of his vulnerability. "It was as if you could only belong to me." The confession spilt out, each word a testament to the frustration he had kept buried within. "I tried to contain it, but I failed time and time again. When I realized what that feeling was, I knew I had to have you. Xiang Yu, I love you so much, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

Will you..." he hesitated, the words catching in his throat, "will you marry me?" The question hung in the air, heavy with all the unspoken dreams and fears, as he awaited Xiang Yu’s response. His heart hung in the balance, teetering on the edge of hope and despair.

Xiang Yu’s eyes sparkled with a mixture of disbelief and joy, a smile threatening to break free despite his best efforts to hide it. It was virtually impossible. His lips curled involuntarily, and the corners of his eyes crinkled with warmth. Who would have thought that the kid who used to hear the words "no one will ever love you, you unlucky star" from his mother would not only find someone who loved him but someone who would tie themselves to him and go through woe and wars with him? His mother repeated those words like a broken record, but she was wrong.

Those bitter words had haunted him for years, yet now they felt like a distant memory, fading into the background of a new reality. He smiled, his cheeks feeling hot. He looked like a bashful bride after the veil was unveiled.

"Yes," he managed to breathe out, his hands trembling slightly as he spoke. "Yes, I will marry you." The joy that erupted within Han Xin was like a firework bursting in the night sky, radiant and brilliant. He wanted to leap up and sweep Xiang Yu into his arms, to celebrate this moment that felt like a dream come to life.

From a distance, Han Zhan observed the scene, a knowing smile dancing on his lips. With a subtle gesture, he urged Han Xin to get the ring.

"Oh!" Han Xin exclaimed, suddenly remembering the small velvet box nestled in his pocket, feeling clumsy as he fumbled to take it out. He had rehearsed this moment countless times in his mind, yet he still managed to screw it up.

As he opened the box, the simple gold band glimmered in the soft light, luxurious yet understated. It was a perfect reflection of his love. But it was what was engraved inside that would have the Divine Emperor running around in a panic when he found out. His dear son had given Xiang Yu a ring with an oath called "Timeless Devotion," an oath only made by divine immortals. Holding the ring, Han Xin’s heart raced with excitement.

He had seen these symbols in a dream on a bracelet and thought that engraving them on the ring would be a perfect way to express his feelings towards Xiang Yu. His love for this man was indeed timeless.

The oath, as its name suggested, symbolized an unbreakable connection that transcended time, space, and even the cycle of life and death. symbolized an unbreakable connection that defied the very fabric of time and space. It was a promise that, even in the face of life and death, the immortal would seek their lover’s soul, forever entwined in the cosmos.

Should their beloved fall, they would find them, for their love was a beacon that could pierce through the veil of reincarnation. If their lover’s soul was destroyed, the god would also cease to exist. This oath could be engraved on a ring, pendant, bracelet, or tassel, and it would be etched onto the person’s soul.

"Put it on me," Xiang Yu said, his voice soft yet steady, his eyes shining like stars in the night sky. Han Xin’s hands shook with anticipation as he slid the ring onto Xiang Yu’s finger, a perfect fit that felt as though it had always belonged there.

As Han Xin slipped the ring onto Xiang Yu’s finger, a rush of warmth surged through Xiang Yu’s body. It was an intense sensation, searing yet not painful, more akin to a comforting flame wrapping around his very soul. He gasped, his smile faltering as he looked at his hand, now glowing with a faint, ethereal light that pulsed softly as if the ring itself was alive with energy. His heartbeat quickened, confusion mingling with awe as he stared blankly at the glow.

As a Demon King, he knew that something momentous had transpired but he had no idea what. Shaking off the unsettling yet wondrous sensation, he drew Han Xin into a tight embrace, his grip firm and full of love.

As Han Xin wrapped his arm’s waist. "Mum," he turned toward his mother’s tomb, his voice filled with a mixture of joy and solemnity, "I am getting married."

At his words, the world around them seemed to shift. The once-gloomy sky cleared, revealing a brilliant expanse of blue. The sun broke through the clouds, bathing them in warmth and light, while the birds chirped merrily in the trees, celebrating the union with their sweet melodies.

The others joined them to congratulate them and as Lian and Mei took turns hugging Xiang Yu, he responded absentmindedly and his eyes kept staring at the ring that had long returned to normal.

Meanwhile, deep in the underworld, the Divine Emperor felt a disturbance ripple through his soul, a sense of foreboding that sent chills down his spine. He was in the midst of summoning the soul of the late Demon King of the North when an unsettling realisation struck him like a thunderbolt. Something catastrophic had transpired, something he had not anticipated.

He had not checked on Xiang Yu, too consumed by his failures, particularly the inability to locate Peng Xiu. His consant failure had hinted at a deeper conspiracy. He had realised that someone was helping her. But who had a vendetta against him that they would go this far? He had decided to summon that demon and find out who had been plotting against him through his son. Thus, he came to a place he would never step foot in. But who would have thought something big would happen when he wasn’t paying attention?
