Chapter 248: Yu Yu, did they hurt you?
Agent Shen approached cautiously, holding out the phone. "Chief, it’s the Director," he said, covering the speaker.
"Not now!" Chief Xi roared, his face red with fury.
Agent Shen nodded and retreated, terrified. The office fell into a tense silence, the only sound coming from the TV, which seemed to mock Chief Xi with its relentless coverage.
"Get me those idiots in the video," Chief Xi bellowed. "Get them in handcuffs now!"
Another agent ran over, breathless and wide-eyed. "Sir, we have trouble."
Chief Xi didn’t even have time to ask what the trouble was when the door swung open, and Han Xin... the Han Xin, walked in. The room fell into stunned silence as the future heir of the infamous Triads made his entrance. His tall, well-built frame filled the doorway, commanding the attention of every agent in the room. He was dressed in a perfectly tailored shirt and pants, his top button rebelliously unbuttoned. His attire today was far removed from his usual strict dress code with a full suite attire. The subtle defiance did not go unnoticed.
Han Xin’s aura was unmistakably dark and domineering. Even in the face of the law, his presence demanded respect, if not outright fear. By his side, his lawyer Guang moved with a practised calm while several bodyguards, equally imposing and dressed in sharp suits, flanked him. The collective tension in the room rose palpably, an unspoken acknowledgement of the power Han Xin wielded.
Chief Xi stood frozen on the spot. His eyes widened in a mixture of shock and wary curiosity. The big fish they had desperately wanted was standing before them, voluntarily, a twist no one had anticipated.
Han Xin strode purposefully across the room, his footsteps echoing ominously. He stopped directly in front of Chief Xi, his piercing gaze meeting the chief’s with unwavering intensity. The air thickened with the weight of unspoken threats.
"Where is Xiang Yu?" Han Xin’s voice was a low, commanding growl, each word laced with authority. He was not here for pleasantries or negotiations. He was here to claim what was his, and nothing would stand in his way.
Chief Xi suppressed his anger. Never in his life did he ever think that Han Xin would walk into this building? He had been planning for this day, but he had envisioned being the one to bring Han Xin in handcuffs with his colleges and subordinates applauding him for bringing Han Xin down. He foresaw himself getting promoted to the position of Direct and getting a bonus. This was why he risked putting Peng Xiu undercover but who would have thought Han Xin would walk in of his own accord instead.
"Mr. Han, we shouldn’t do this here. Please, come to my office."
Lawyer Guang stepped forward, his expression calm but firm. "Chief Xi, I think you know very well that this matter is going to ruin the reputation of the Bureau. The faster you release my client, the better."
Han Xin felt a gaze burrowing into his skin. When he looked over, he found the agent who had been rough with Xiang Yu earlier. His rage amplified, and he wanted to beat him up, but he restrained himself. He would definitely have another opportunity to do so.
Agent Lu had been watching Han Xin from the moment he entered the room. His ego was instantly bruised seeing how handsome Han Xin was. It made sense that Peng Xiu, the woman he liked, would fall in love with Han Xin. He was even more handsome in person than in his pictures, and he was very tall with hickeys on his neck. Thinking that Han Xin had been with Peng Xiu, his jealousy was hard to suppress. Peng Xiu hadn’t said it explicitly, but she had been showing signs that Han Xin, that beast, was forcing her.
When Han Xin glared at him, Agent Lu felt like a thousand daggers were slicing through his flesh. He looked away, trying to reduce his sense of presence, but he was extremely angry. He couldn’t wait for Han Xin to be locked up in a filthy prison cell with four cellmates and no bathroom privacy. He couldn’t wait to see that imposing figure of Han Xin’s dragged through the mud.
The argument between Chief Xi and Lawyer Guang had reached an impasse. Chief Xi’s stubbornness was palpable. He knew he had no reason to hold Xiang Yu after this but his desire to speak to Han Xin overpowered his sense of reason. But Han Xin remained unfazed, his only concern was getting Xiang Yu out. Every minute spent arguing was another minute Xiang Yu remained detained.
"You have five minutes," Han Xin said, his voice carrying an unsettling threat. "That should be enough time, right?"
Chief Xi felt a chill run down his spine. Lawyer Guang leaned in and whispered, "I don’t advise you to speak to them."
Han Xin waved him off. "No, it’s fine. While we talk, bring Xiang Yu here."
Chief Xi led Han Xin to his office, trying to maintain his composure. "Would you like some water?" he offered.
"No," Han Xin replied curtly, standing as if the office was beneath him.
"You can sit," Chief Xi suggested, his patience wearing thin.
"No," Han Xin repeated bluntly, his gaze cold and unyielding.
Chief Xi gritted his teeth, frustrated by the lack of control. He had hoped to collect Han Xin’s DNA, to find some evidence of his crimes, but now he couldn’t even do that. He sat down and pointed at the hickeys on Han Xin’s neck. "Didn’t know that Master Han has a girlfriend," he remarked, suspecting a connection to Peng Xiu.
Han Xin checked his watch, his expression icy. "You have four and a half minutes."
Chief Xi’s frustration grew. "Han Xin, I know you are a good guy. You donate to charities, fund disadvantaged students, and offer job opportunities to graduates. You are like a saint, but even that can’t make up for the sins of your family." He spread out files with evidence of the Triads’ crimes, pictures of victims scattered across the desk. "This woman was killed and left at the bottom of the sea. This man’s hands were cut off and fed to pigs. Don’t you feel any remorse, huh?"
Han Xin didn’t reply, his expression one of detached indifference. Chief Xi’s attempts to guilt him fell flat. Desperation crept into the Chief’s voice. "Help us. Help us take these people down. You have a moral obligation."
But Han Xin wasn’t listening. Finally, he said, "Time is up."
Chief Xi, in the middle of his speech, was abruptly cut off. "Huh?" he muttered, bewildered.
Han Xin turned to leave. "Wait, wait wait," said the chief following after him. Just then the door opened and Xiang Yu walked in, rubbing his wrists. Han Xin’s demeanour softened instantly. He wrapped his arms around Xiang Yu’s waist and kissed his forehead, his body almost shrouding Xiang Yu’s.
Chief Xi and Agent Shen, who stood at the door, were shocked. Han Xin’s fingers caressed Xiang Yu’s waist as he asked, "Yu Yu, did they hurt you?"
"No," Xiang Yu replied. "Let’s get out of here." Together, they walked out, leaving Chief Xi and Agent Shen in stunned silence.
