Chapter 107: Robbing the cradle

She also instructed him to go and ask for the special wine and tea from the kitchen when his clients were on their third round of drinking. The so-called special wine and tea were low quality and watered down with a special powder to keep their clients intoxicated. Baihe didn’t know what this special wine and tea was about, but he was too scared to refuse.

Thinking of the punishment that awaited him if he failed his hand shook, causing the wine to spill on the table. "I am so sorry," he kept apologising frantically while wiping away the wine. Lian and Mei helped him move the cups away while comforting him. Xiang Yu, on the other hand, had his sharp gaze fixed on the wooden wall as if he were looking at someone.

Yi Nuo followed his gaze, wondering what Peng Xiu was looking at. In a secret room behind the wall, the madam watching them was terrified by the look in the beautiful woman’s eyes. It was like staring into the eyes of a devil.

She stumbled back, her heart pounding in fear. How could she ever have thought that this young woman was naïve? That was a gross miscalculation on her part. She had no idea how the beauty knew she was watching them, but not wanting to offend the client further, she quickly left.

Xiang Yu smirked, satisfied with the terror he had instilled in the madam. He picked up the wine cup and took a leisurely sip. He had done it on purpose, ensuring they could chat freely without being watched.

Thinking her master wasn’t looking, Lian but her lower lip and discreetly reached for a cup of wine. She moved it closer, her eyes already foreseeing victory, but Xiang Yu, ever the all-seeing eye, intercepted her. He took the cup away and placed it in front of Yi Nuo. "Sister Nuo, do you drink" he asked.

Yi Nuo nodded, "Thank you, young miss." She rarely drank, but she wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to drink with the princess.

Lian, having been thwarted by her master, lowered her head and pouted. Xiang Yu instructed Bai He to serve her and Mei only tea. "That’s unfair," Lian muttered, but Mei, more obedient, remained silent. She was quite self-aware after what happened the last time.

To this day, she regretted ever stealing their master’s wine and drinking it. The two of them hid up on the roof and drank the entire jar. The memory of almost jumping off the palace roof, claiming she was a bird and wanted to fly, was still fresh. As for the drunk Lian, it was too disturbing to think about. Xiang Yu punished them for it and banned them from drinking.

Lian and Mei munched on melon seeds and roasted peanuts, chatting animatedly with Yi Nuo. Baihe, however, remained mostly silent, his eyes downcast while Xiang Yu drank slowly while lost in thought. Suddenly, chaos erupted outside, and the door was pushed open. One of the hosts struggled to stop the intruders from entering the private room.

"Young masters, we can arrange another private room for you. Please, don’t make it harder for me," pleaded the host but it was already too late.

Xiang Yu’s hand paused, the rim of his cup touching his lips as he stared at Han Xin and Han Zhan standing by the door. The host bowed deeply, apologising, "I am so sorry, young miss. I couldn’t stop them."

Han Zhan smirked, "No need to apologise. We are all friends here, aren’t we, young miss?"

Xiang Yu took his sweet time answering. He moved the cup towards Baihe but his gaze remained locked on Han Xin. Baihe poured more wine into the cup, and Xiang Yu downed it in one go. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with Han Xin and needed more wine to brace himself. He thought he was going to have one day of peace but he was wrong.

"That’s right, we are all friends," he said, still staring at Han Xin, who returned his gaze with an indifferent expression.

Han Xin walked in and sat down opposite Peng Xiu with an air of indifference. Han Zhan smiled as he followed in behind his cousin. He sat next to Han Xin looking like he was getting ready to watch a good show. His eyes suddenly fell on Yi Nuo, who was dressed differently, her face adorned with delicate makeup. Stunned he pointed at her and asked, "What did you all do to her?"

The twins were so proud of their masterpiece. They grabbed both of Yi Nuo’s arms on either side and said, "We gave her a makeover."

Han Xin looked at Yi Nuo, who was so embarrassed that she lowered her head. He never stopped the women in his regiment from getting dressed up and putting on rouge on their day off but Yi Nuo still felt uncomfortable being seen like this. She was worried the general would think she was compromised.

Xiang Yu leaned in, his elbow resting on the table. "What, isn’t she pretty, General Han?" he asked with a hint of amusement in his voice.

Han Xin’s annoyance was palpable but he didn’t show it on his face. Han Zhan’s brow arched in curiosity. The tension in the room was thick, but Xiang Yu seemed to revel in it, his smirk never faltering.

When the door opened, he leaned back no longer in the mood to tease Han Xin. A few ladies entered, carrying an array of dishes. Xiang Yu hadn’t held back, ordering Peking duck, braised chicken, pork slices with scallions, dumplings, Kung Pao chicken, fish, and various side dishes. It was a mini feast, and he knew Lian and Mei, his little goblins, would finish it all.

"General, you are welcome to eat with us," he said, a hint of amusement in his voice. "After all, you sponsored this meal. If there’s something you like and it isn’t here, let me know." Han Xin wasn’t at all polite. He was here to watch her and wasn’t going anywhere so he might as well eat.

Xiang Yu glanced at Baihe, who was obediently kneeling a bit further away and beckoned him over. Baihe moved closer, thinking she wanted something. Instead, she leaned in and said, "Sit down next to me," before whispering into his ear, "The madam isn’t watching you anymore."

Baihe raised his head in surprise but was grateful. He didn’t know how to tell her that they were being watched but it seemed that she had figured it out. Han Xin watched their interaction, a storm brewing inside of him, but he didn’t show it.

He merely glanced at them before focusing on the tasteless food in front of him. He thought she would ask a woman to serve them wine, but of course, she picked a young man who looked like a typical ’small white face’ rich divorced women loved to pay attention to.

Han Xin couldn’t help but wonder if this was her preference. A handsome, young and soft man with feminine energy. There was nothing wrong with this young man. What was bothering him was why she was kissing him if that was her type. He calmed himself down. This was a good thing.

Xiang Yu had no idea he was being misunderstood as a rich elder lady robbing the cradle. He whispered in Baihe’s ear again because he didn’t want the young man to feel embarrassed in front of everyone. If it was only him and the twins it wouldn’t be a problem. Seeing that he wasn’t eating he said, "You probably haven’t eaten in a long while. Eat as much as you want. I will help you leave this place."

Baihe blushed, wanting to tell her not to trouble herself, but he had been beaten into submission by the madam and wasn’t fed enough all in the name of monitoring his weight, but in truth, it was to make sure he didn’t grow fully during puberty. He desperately wanted to leave this place and had tried before but failed miserably.
