Veilbreaker! Oops I Bleed Again -
Chapter 64: Adventurer’s Guild
Chapter 64: Adventurer’s Guild
The streets were packed with people.
The air was thick with the aroma of sizzling meats and freshly baked bread.
Stalls lined both sides of the street. Vendors shouted over one another to sell their goods.
Draven, Bella, and Deka navigated through the crowd until they arrived at a large establishment.
The Adventurer’s Guild.
The building towered over most of its surroundings.
Its massive wooden doors were constantly swinging open and shut as adventurers bustled in and out.
Inside, the atmosphere was lively.
Groups of adventurers gathered around bulletin boards, scanning available quests.
Others counted coins and exchanged stories over drinks.
"It looks like they really do earn a lot from each quest."
Bella’s eyes scanned the gold-filled pouches hanging from various belts.
"True!" a deep voice responded.
The trio turned sharply toward the speaker.
It was from a man clad in light brown armor with a long sword strapped to his waist.
He looked like he was in his thirties, with short brown hair. He has a weathered face that looks like he is a veteran adventurer.
The veteran adventurer continued.
"Since we’re right next to Grimwood Forest, there’s always work. Some of the best money comes from exploring The Deep Ruins in the 6th layer."
Draven’s expression didn’t change. But inside, he took note of the information.
The Deep Ruins
It is an area with no Eatherblooms, meaning there’s no safe zone.
There are only a few strong monsters found there. Most were Rank C.
But their true value lay in the countless dungeons scattered underground.
Each dungeon was different.
They were filled with monsters and treasures, including the highly valuable Lumirites.
The adventurer studied them for a moment.
"Are you new here? Never seen your faces before."
Draven flashed a friendly grin.
"Yeah! We just moved to the capital. Planning to become adventurers."
The adventurer nodded, then explained the application process, filling out documents, proving their capabilities, and most importantly, providing proof of their I.D.
Draven’s smile didn’t waver. But inside, he clicked his tongue.
’That’s a problem.’
They left the guild and found a quiet corner outside.
"Now what?" Belle asked Draven.
They couldn’t afford to expose their I.D.s.
After waiting a couple of minutes, one of the receptionists stepped outside for a break.
She was stretching her arms.
Draven smirked, having an idea in mind.
The three watched her from the shadows.
Bella moved first when she saw she was alone.
"Hi."
The receptionist turned only to be enveloped in a faint mist.
[Enthralling Essence!]
A dreamy smile crossed her lips. Then her face quickly shifted to a cold, annoyed scowl.
It was as if she wanted nothing to do with anyone around her, but just wanted to be with Bella.
Bella’s eyes darted around, checking for onlookers.
"Fix yourself and act normal."
The receptionist gave a stiff nod.
"Go back inside, process our applications once we get there, and don’t ask many questions."
Without hesitation, the receptionist turned on her heel and marched back inside.
Bella slipped through a narrow alleyway.
Draven and Deka were waiting at the other end, watching as she approached.
"It’s done. Let’s go."
"Good. Time to make it official!" Draven grinned.
The three of them re-entered the Adventurer’s Guild.
Without hesitation, they lined up at the reception desk, specifically at the counter where Bella’s enthralled receptionist stood waiting.
The receptionist’s professional expression never wavered as she greeted them.
"Good afternoon. How can I assist you?"
Bella took the lead.
"We’d like to apply as adventurers. All three of us."
"Understood. One moment, please."
The receptionist retrieved three forms and placed them on the counter.
"Please fill out all required details."
Bella handed the papers to Draven and Deka.
Draven glanced down at the form:
Name:Age:Identification:
’Simple enough.’ Draven smirked.
He filled in his details:
Name: Draven FaulxAge: 27Identification: Crimson
Once all three forms were completed, they slid them back across the counter.
The receptionist skimmed through the documents before looking up.
"Please show us your I.D.s."
Draven’s eyes widened, and his smirk disappeared.
Bella turned to him subtly, waiting for his decision.
For Deka, this was no issue.
His identity wouldn’t cause trouble.
But Draven and Bella’s I.D.s were a problem.
They are Verdants.
Around them, a few adventurers cast curious glances their way.
Some were simply waiting their turn.
But others were observing with interest, likely scouting for potential recruits.
"It’s just a bunch of commoners. No need to waste time on them," one adventurer muttered nearby, losing interest.
Draven took note.
Some people were watching, but not everyone cared.
Still, the risk was there.
His gaze flickered back to the receptionist.
"We’re new to Zarathon. We prefer to keep our identification private."
The receptionist hesitated.
Draven leaned forward slightly, his voice taking on a controlled authority.
"Take us to a private room. We’ll show our I.D.s there."
Bella’s influence tightened around the receptionist’s mind.
’Follow his request.’
The receptionist’s hesitation vanished, replaced by a polite smile.
"Understood. Please follow me. We’ll proceed in a private room."
Draven smirked, gesturing for Deka and Bella to follow.
"Let’s go."
The three followed the receptionist through a side door, stepping into a simple, unadorned private room.
Despite its plain design, the fact that they were being taken somewhere away from public view immediately caught the attention of nearby adventurers.
Whispers spread across the hall.
"They refused to reveal their I.D.s?"
There was only one logical conclusion for most seasoned adventurers.
"They must be strong. Probably Luminous I.D. holders."
But others hesitated, frowning.
"That doesn’t make sense. Look at their clothes. They’re just commoners."
A scoff came from a more experienced adventurer.
"Idiot. That receptionist is Sarah. We all know she wouldn’t go out of her way for weaklings. If she’s letting them skip the standard process, then they must be valuable to the guild."
Minutes Later...
Draven, Bella, and Deka stepped out of the room, their applications now approved.
Sarah, now back at her desk, adjusted her posture and spoke smoothly.
"Before I finalize your registration, would you like to apply for a rank-up exam?"
Draven’s brow arched.
"Oh? We can rank up immediately? How does that work?"
Sarah nodded.
"Adventurer ranks go from F to S. Normally, newcomers start at Rank F and work their way up through quests. However, here in Zarathon, we don’t force capable fighters to start with basic gathering missions if they’re already strong."
"So what’s the catch?" Draven asked.
"The guild prevents unqualified adventurers from rushing their rank-ups. To ensure that only the skilled rise quickly, we conduct an assessment exam, a live combat test to prove you can handle higher quests."
Draven smirked. "Sounds simple enough. Is that all?"
"No, failure means you stay at Rank F permanently. No second chances."
Draven exhaled through his nose, amused.
"A real gamble, huh?"
He turned to Bella and Deka, a wicked grin forming.
"What do you two think?"
Bella shrugged.
"It’s up to you."
Deka, who had been silent, finally spoke.
"We need to rank up fast. It’s the best way to earn money. But I doubt if I can pass the assessment."
Draven slaps his shoulder.
"Don’t worry, just protect yourself."
Draven turned to Sarah and accepted the assessment.
"Understood," Sarah replied. "The test will be arranged soon. Prepare yourselves."
Draven smirked, his fingers twitching with anticipation.
"Oh, we’re always prepared."
