Veilbreaker! Oops I Bleed Again -
Chapter 59: Freedom
Chapter 59: Freedom
Bella had been waiting.
She had already released her scent before the armored teleporter took Deka away.
And she was hoping that it clung to them before they vanished.
They need Deka for her and the Verdants to survive Dex’s attack.
Luckily, it did.
That was all she needed.
She had barely paid attention to Draven’s fight because her focus was elsewhere.
She was waiting for the teleporter to smell her scent so her skill would activate.
And he did.
It was when Bryan built the wall.
—--------
Bella smiled as she let everyone know what had just happened.
[Enthralling Essence]
Once a target smells her scent, no matter how far they are, they will be under her influence, like a personal slave, until the scent fades.
Dex shook his head in disbelief. His mind refused to accept what was happening.
"How... How did this happen?!"
His breath came ragged and uneven until he went into a panic state.
He staggered to his feet and turned to run.
But the moment he turned around, Draven was already there.
"SMASH!"
Draven’s Morphos slammed into Dex’s head.
Dex reeled back, stumbling.
"I’m the third commander of Zarathon! No one can beat..."
"BAM!"
There was another crushing blow from Draven.
Dex flew backward, crashing into the wall.
"Fuck!"
"BOOM!"
And another hit.
Dex’s body rolled across the ground, his face bloodied, and he was breathing heavily.
He tried to lift himself, his head spinning.
Draven walked toward him. His eyes were sharp and cold.
"I will repeat the question before." His voice was calm. "What did you do to the Verdants with missing brains?"
The Verdant prisoners’ eyes widened in anticipation of his answer.
Dex’s lips curled into a creepy smile.
"Why the hell should I tell you?"
Draven shrugged, giving up what could be Dex’s last chance.
"Yeah, you’re right. You’re not obliged to."
He inhaled a lungful of air before delivering his last strike.
"SMASH!"
Dex’s body went limp.
Suddenly, darkness overtook him.
—
A few minutes passed, and Dex’s eyes slowly opened.
His vision was blurred. But when it cleared, he saw Draven and Bella standing above him.
He looked around and realized that they were now on the upper floor.
Draven’s lips curled into smirks.
"Are you ready, Bella?"
Bella nodded and shifted her stance, preparing to release her mist.
Dex’s body tensed. He knew exactly what was coming.
He thrashed violently, struggling against invisible restraints.
"No! NO!"
Bella’s mist would take control. And once he inhaled it, he’d be forced to tell them everything.
Every secret.
Every truth.
He had no way to resist.
His eyes widened in pure desperation.
"Why the hell do you care so much about the Verdants?!" he spat.
Then his voice dropped, shaking with something deeper.
"God’s curse will be upon you!"
For the first time, Draven paused.
He lifted a hand, stopping Bella.
His gaze darkened.
"God?" he smirked.
Then he laughed. It was a low, amused chuckle.
"I don’t know what kind of ’god’ you’re talking about, or if he even exists."
He took a step closer, towering over Dex.
"But whether it’s a ’god’ or a so-called ’lord’..."
His grin widened.
"The next time I meet him, I’ll beat the shit out of him."
Dex’s face turned pale.
Draven’s eyes went fiercer.
"And you ask why I help the Verdants?"
He lifted his arm.
"Status!"
With a flick of his palm, his Verdant I.D. projected before him.
Dex’s breath caught in his throat. His pupils dilated in sheer shock.
"Y-You... You’re the same as him."
Draven’s gaze sharpened.
"Him?"
Dex didn’t respond.
Draven’s patience ran thin.
"Bella. Now!"
Bella nodded and moved.
Mist began to seep from her skin.
But before it could reach Dex, his body suddenly jerked, and his head snapped downward.
Then he went completely still.
Draven’s instinct flared.
He immediately knelt, grabbed Dex’s collar, and lifted it to see his head.
He was right.
Dex was already lifeless.
His body was limp, like a puppet with its strings cut.
Draven’s brows furrowed.
He observed him closer, and as he did so, he noticed Dex’s eyes.
Blood had burst from within them, flooding the whites of his eyes in a deep, unnatural red.
Draven’s jaw clenched.
"Was this suicide...?" he muttered.
Or...
"Did someone kill him remotely?"
A heavy silence filled the air.
Draven let out a slow exhale.
After he had gone through, there was nothing.
He had gained nothing from this interrogation.
Only a single, lingering name.
"Him."
And it’s not even a name!
Draven sighed before he stood.
"Let’s go."
Draven pushed a switch.
With a low hiss, the exit door slid open.
A couple of minutes later, he led the group outside the laboratory.
The fresh night air greeted them as they stepped into the ruined village.
For a moment, there was silence.
Then, the silence turned to cheers.
The prisoners’ faces lit up.
For the first time in years, they saw the sunset.
A sight they thought they would never see again.
That night, they celebrated.
Draven hunted their food, providing a feast for the survivors.
Laughter filled the air.
They ate together for the first time in a long time, smiling and alive.
Some fell asleep outside under the stars, exhaustion finally catching up with them.
But inside one of the makeshift shelters, a more serious conversation took place.
Inside the small hut, Draven sat with Bella, Deka, and Bella’s enslaved teleporter.
Bella’s eyes narrowed as she turned to her slave.
Her voice was soft yet absolute.
"Anything Draven asks, you will answer."
The armored man nodded eagerly, like a dog obeying its master.
Draven leaned forward.
"Can you teleport us to Riftwater?"
The teleporter hesitated before he shook his head.
"I-I can only teleport... to places I have been before."
Draven exhaled, already expecting that answer.
"Fine. Then tell me, what exactly were they doing inside that laboratory?"
The armored man shook again slightly.
"Commander Dex only gave me instructions on where to go. I... I don’t know much."
Draven’s gaze hardened. "Tell me what you do know."
The man swallowed, gathering his thoughts.
"There are five major rooms inside the facility."
Draven, Bella, and Deka listened carefully.
The 1st room is the ’Completion’ Chamber.
This is where the finished hybrids are taken.
They are placed in capsules and injected with blood.
After a few days, some survive.
But many die.
Their bodies were unable to withstand the process.
The 2nd room is the Battle Arena.
It is a cage-filled chamber where the successful hybrids are sent.
They are tested and forced to fight.
Only the strongest are kept alive.
The 3rd room is the Preservation Chamber.
It was a storage area where shelves and cases were filled with severed body parts.
In here, limbs, organs, and entire torsos are all preserved.
The 4th room is the Holding Cell.
It is a prison where captives for future experiments are kept.
There were rows of cages filled with people waiting to be used.
The 5th Room is the Unknown Sector.
Even among their companions, no one knew what happened here.
Speculation suggested it contained the true purpose of the lab.
A place where something far worse was being created.
Bella’s eyes darkened, while Deka’s jaw tightened.
This wasn’t just about experimentation anymore.
There was something bigger.
Something they weren’t supposed to find out.
"Teleport us now in that room," Draven ordered.
